90s NIN was very angry… then Trent went weird.

horny should be a perpendicular axis. you can be very angry and horny.
dryfter@lemm.ee 1 year ago
I was about to make a comment about how blatantly stupid this chart is leaving out many bands (Nirvana, Tool, Pantera, etc) and getting alignments completely fucked up (NIN, No Doubt, L7…). Then I looked at the community it was posted in.
Well played @ickplant@lemmy.world. Well played. 👏🏻
faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 1 year ago
Nirvana is on the blue line by Sad, Tool is above it in the pink/purple
dryfter@lemm.ee 1 year ago
I’m apparently blind as a bat 🤦🏻♂️
Kolanaki@pawb.social 1 year ago
No wonder I listen to a lot of Foo Fighters.
redwattlebird@lemmings.world 1 year ago
Hmm. Missing Everclear.
Kolanaki@pawb.social 1 year ago
Just like that Father of Mine…
redwattlebird@lemmings.world 1 year ago
Tell me where has he been?
Bruncvik@lemmy.world 1 year ago
This otherwise insightful chart suffers from the lack of NOFX.
Lolseas@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I can’t believe they’re quitting! I refuse to believe it.
chandlerbung@lemmy.cafe 1 year ago
Where would we put the FX?
ceph@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I still listen to Punk in Drublic <3
Delphia@lemmy.world 1 year ago
The Offspring just pingpong all over the fucking place really.
Kolanaki@pawb.social 1 year ago
Sometimes even in the same song.
Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 1 year ago
RATM makes me horny
Kolanaki@pawb.social 1 year ago
Literally wanting to fuck the machine to death.
tetris11@lemmy.ml 1 year ago
There needs to be an Optimistic <—> Bleak axis too
Redjard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 year ago
Only ones I’ve ever heard are Radiohead and Rage against the Machine, sincerely, genZ.
Anyway are yall telling me there are no bands that are both horny and angry?runner_g@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 year ago
If your curious, this chart is full of great artists.
Kolanaki@pawb.social 1 year ago
Every band on this graphic is amazing. You’ve just been given an assignment to give each and every one a listen.
OozingPositron@feddit.cl 1 year ago
I was probably wrong about Radiohead. Maybe I mixed them up with radioactive by imagine dragons?
This is Almas caviar quality bait.
menemen@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Check them out. Some are great (Cranberries for example). I also guess you’ll know more than you think.
theangryseal@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Nirvana In Utero is my favorite record of all time.
They aren’t my favorite band, but my god that record hits me right where I need it.
WhatYouNeed@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Then my friend, you have some awesome tunes ahead of you to listen to.
Taleya@aussie.zone 1 year ago
Pulp needs to move up a bit. If you don’t think they do angry you have not been paying attention
Corngood@lemmy.ml 1 year ago
The axes make no sense for Pulp who are equally angry, sad, and horny.
Also not technically Pulp, but it turns out cunts are still running the world.
Taleya@aussie.zone 1 year ago
and happy on occasion. Rare, but there. Dave’s last summer / a good 70% of we love life
selokichtli@lemmy.ml 1 year ago
OMG. I’m not the only who hasn’t forgotten about Eels.
Kolanaki@pawb.social 1 year ago
Life is hard. And so am I.
Lennnny@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Still on rotation over here
merc@sh.itjust.works 1 year ago
While there’s a lot of disagreement on where bands belong, I think Rage Against the Machine as the pinnacle of Angry Music is one we can all agree with.
rmuk@feddit.uk 1 year ago
Yeah, especially printers. Fuck printers.
arken@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I’m guessing the reason that The Cure (debut LP from 1979) is on this list is that it was made by an american, that first heard them because of “Friday I’m in Love”?
billwashere@lemmy.world 1 year ago
So you can’t be Angry and Horny?!?!
CaptSneeze@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Sure you can. All of the bands I the middle of the y-axis are equally angry and horny.
sunbrrnslapper@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Not in the nineties, you couldn’t. 😉
karl_chungus@lemm.ee 1 year ago
Where the fuck is Ween tho
mydoomlessaccount@infosec.pub 1 year ago
Ween is a giant circle around the entire graph that’s too large to be depicted here
Kolanaki@pawb.social 1 year ago
Ween signifies more than these four basic emotions. They’ve even created new emotions just to write songs about.
kerrigan778@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Nirvana is both quite horny AND quite angry more than neither.
uniquethrowagay@feddit.org 1 year ago
I’ve been licking the walls of her anus.
kerrigan778@lemmy.world 1 year ago
And that’s one of their songs that ISN’T about sex.
Wilco@lemm.ee 1 year ago
Someone has never listened to No Doubt or NIN.
dukatos@lemm.ee 1 year ago
Or Korn
TheLowestStone@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Also Morphine, Offspring, Tool, and Veruca Tools, Blink 182 is way more happy and horny than Sublime. Weezer belongs where the Flaming Lips are and RHCP is hornier than both of them.
This chart is awful.
Ledivin@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Idk, Tool feels about right? Maybe slightly more angry and slightly less sad
mostNONheinous@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I was gonna say how is the Offspring sad!?
eezeebee@lemmy.ca 1 year ago
Sad music is the best. Deftones are way more horny than angry.
humanspiral@lemmy.ca 1 year ago
Angry vs horny as a single axis…
NIN seems to have an angry tone. March of pigs, wish, hand that feeds, head like a hole. There is one sad balad as a cover. There is one horny lyric song, that also happens to be on the happier than sad side.
ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 1 year ago
If you want the angriest horny song ever, it’s definitely NIN - Closer
humanspiral@lemmy.ca 1 year ago
In OP’s perpective, placing NIN where it is is entirely based on Closer, and nothing else. Hurt could be sad without being horny.
It is possible to view Closer as horny and happy. The infactucation bringing him closer to god, is a successful antidote to the sadness he expresses them curing. Also the horniness infatuation in itself is a pursuit of happiness. IMO, if you see the cure for your sadness right before you, you cannot be/no longer sad. So, as it resonates to me, closer is happy and horny, not sad, despite lyrical evidence of sadness.
TheLowestStone@lemmy.world 1 year ago
The angry/horny axis is silly. Go listen to Stinkfist by Tool and tell me a song can’t be both.
humanspiral@lemmy.ca 1 year ago
also, hand that feeds and head like a hole have angry sound and lyrics, but happy dance beat/groove.
surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 1 year ago
That’s why they left Manson off the list. That band was just horngry.
rumba@lemmy.zip 1 year ago
I went to NIN, Manson opened and Jim Rose Circus sideshow ran in between.
I had shitty seats in the back corner of my mid-sized venue. There were parents all around me in the cheap seats. There were no kids with them, but they were obviously looking for their kids.
The main floor was a sea of 90% under-aged goth chicks smoking.
The parents were all solemn and quiet.
Lights went down
Spot came up, the screeching cheer of 10k girls pierced my eardums. Manson walked out on stage
MANSON: “HOW MANY 14 YEAR OLD GIRLS WANT TO FUCK ME”
The GA seats double down on screaming.
All the parents went from disinterested concern to outright anger.
roguetrick@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Green Day was peak sad and horny before dookie.
FundMECFSResearch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 year ago
Yeah. Really questioning how they got labelled as one of the happiest bands here. But tbh you could never expect one person to make something like this accurately.
roguetrick@lemmy.world 1 year ago
In the 00s I can see you saying angry but upbeat. In the 90s though?
SpiceDealer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 year ago
Title: 90s bands
My brain: Morbid Angel, Obituary, Sepultura, Corrosion of Conformity, Eyehategod, Dissection, among others.
arken@lemmy.world 1 year ago
My brain: 4/6 of those are 80s bands
SpiceDealer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 year ago
Some those did get their start in the 80s but all of them hit their peak in the 90s.
FeatherConstrictor@sh.itjust.works 1 year ago
Someone explain the sarcasm belt to me and why Radiohead is sad sarcastic
AstridWipenaugh@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I’m not sure sarcasm is the right word. I’d say it’s more “self awareness”. Cake is a good example. They’re not serious and their music is almost a parody of pop-alt-rock at the time. Radiohead is borderline self-aware; they’re sad and they know it, but not so sad as to be “serious” about it like Dashboard Confessional.
S_H_K@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 year ago
It only works if you believe they put a man on the moon…
Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I’m assuming every ska band is so far off the left edge we can’t see them.
philthi@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Can I get an explanation of what it feels like to be happy and angry?
dylanmorgan@slrpnk.net 1 year ago
Morphine should be as far to the right as they are to the left. Not sure what the original creator of the chart was thinking.
ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 1 year ago
Bush? … don’t you mean Bush X
Lol … Canadian here asking
eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 year ago
Where would They Might Be Giants and Barenaked Ladies be on this? BNL, despite the name, isn’t horny.
