Someone should make an anticapitalist Dexter. A serial killer who kills evil rich people.

Or we could free Luigi, and get the real thing!
neidu3@sh.itjust.works 19 hours ago
Luigis Mansion: A TV show about a mansion filled with kidnapped billionaires. Sprinkle some inspiration from the Saw movies on top, and we’ve got a hit.
Strider@lemmy.world 5 hours ago
That’s a good idea for a ‘dystopian’ thriller book
sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 hours ago
I’d fuckin watch that.
Slovene@feddit.nl 20 hours ago
And also title the show “Luigi”
FrowingFostek@lemmy.world 16 hours ago
This is why I now advocate for a Mamdani/Mangione 2028 presidential ticket.
I know he can’t run for president right now but, maybe we can break the rules for the benefit of the people some day.
Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 16 hours ago
I mean…yes?
I’d vote for that.
latenightnoir@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 hours ago
I honestly wouldn’t. Not because I disagree with the concept, but because more on-point escapist media would just ensure that people will get their revolutionary fix without ever leaving the couch. We don’t need that. We need people to be angry, to be fed up, to have no other escape than to fight for it.
Capitalism has done wonders at keeping us sedated by selling us our fantasies of change and better days. It’s time we stopped taking the meds.
Coolbeanschilly@lemmy.ca 19 hours ago
Actions speak louder than words, and all the shows follow is a script. Reality is much more interesting than anything Netflix or Amazon can show us.
latenightnoir@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 hours ago
Let’s make it even more interesting, then!
thermal_shock@lemmy.world 19 hours ago
I think being angry enough to kill someone may be the top.
latenightnoir@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 hours ago
And I think Luigi would have done nothing had he stayed submerged in escapism, is my point.
lordnikon@lemmy.world 16 hours ago
First 2 seasons of Arrow were like this. But yes I would watch the shit out of it. Make it a law and order style straight from the headlines and make the rich people resemble real life rich people.
LemmyThinkAboutIt@lemmy.zip 8 hours ago
The first 2 seasons of Arrow were so damn good.

FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 16 hours ago
Call him Luigi
toiletobserver@lemmy.world 18 hours ago
Mr robot came close i suppose.
MaggiWuerze@feddit.org 20 hours ago
Like a gritty modern Robin Hood?
gon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 hours ago
My thoughts exactly. Robin Hood, but he actually shoots those arrows at a good target.
Demonmariner@lemmy.world 20 hours ago
Ya, like any major media company would go anywhere near that. Great idea though. It would get dynamite ratings.
DrFistington@lemmy.world 20 hours ago
It would though, and that was why Luigi was such a danger to them. Ultimately they will keep writing stories that people keep clicking on and or reading. Even during Trump’s initial run for president there were journalists to express that they love the fact that Trump was running because people would always read the articles about him. He was sensational.
Then the day came where Luigi committed justified self-defense on a public New York street. I bet there are more journalists that would rather be printing non-stop stories about Luigi because people would rather read them, as opposed to some dumb shit Trump is doing.
Xaphanos@lemmy.world 17 hours ago
So don’t pitch it to a major media company. YouTube stars are born every day.
DrFistington@lemmy.world 20 hours ago
You mean a hero? That goes around defeating evil who would rather spend billions to ruin humanity instead of millions to improve it?
I think the word your looking for is hero
thisisbutaname@discuss.tchncs.de 19 hours ago
Not exactly that, but Leverage gets close. Stealing back from rich people who stole first. Except the rich guy rarely ends up dead.
aaaa@lemmy.world 19 hours ago
Leverage was/is a pretty ridiculous show sometimes (it’s basically just Ocean’s Five as a series), but I still enjoyed it far more than Dexter
thisisbutaname@discuss.tchncs.de 18 hours ago
Yeah, the schpiel gets a bit repetitive after a while and you know the good guys will eventually win with some weird last minute twist, but for me the show is carried mostly by the characters and their chemistry. It’s the reason I rewatch a few episodes every now and then
frezik@lemmy.blahaj.zone 20 hours ago
There should be a Poison Ivy movie of basically that.
ItJustDonn@slrpnk.net 20 hours ago
Season 4 of You (kinda), but anything’s possible for Dexter Resurrection
natecox@programming.dev 20 hours ago
… as a TV show, right? Right?

NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 19 hours ago
Yes, nobody would be that insane to think otherwise…maybe even a reality TV show type of deal would be cool.

“Coming this fall: ten billionaires are locked in a house with a murderous psychopath. Who will be the first victim, and who make it to the end? Use your phone to vote each week on what weapons the murderer will have access to! Introducing: Bigger Brother! Only on cable!”
Yeah I’d watch it.
