Meanwhile I’ve never seen one not abused! People love to take the books, but not return them. I know this because I’ve made multiple trips to restock my local little library and every single time I went, nearly every book was gone, every time. I never saw any of the books I added ever again.

- Comment on Portal and Portal 2 are 80% off 3 days ago:
Just a heads up: it’s a mod but is listed as a separate game on Steam:
store.steampowered.com/app/…/Portal_with_RTX/
It came out in 2022, however, so IDK why OP is saying “recently”.
- Comment on Open Printer is a fully open-source inkjet with DRM-free ink and no subscriptions 3 days ago:
Or a Canon if you can’t afford a Brother.
Prints even without ink, and the software looks and behaves like it’s from 1996 so it’s ridiculously simple. It doesn’t harass you or fill your PC with bloat—the software just hangs out quietly in the background and only pops up when you need to print to inform you of ink levels—it doesn’t bother you with bullshit ever.
The only modern feature it has is network connectivity, which is honestly the only modern feature I need in a printer, so that I can print from my phone without having to boot up my PC first. And that’s even simpler than printing from PC because you don’t even need a driver. Just hit the Print option in Android and start printing.

They’re still doing that bundle? Fifteen years ago I used to use that bundle as an argument for getting my friends and family into PC gaming. “Look at how many games you can get for only $99!”
I managed to convince one person to ditch consoles, so I consider that a success.
- Comment on Portal and Portal 2 are 80% off 3 days ago:
Reminds me of the first time I played Portal. I was really excited for the “hilarious song” in the credits that all the reviews were saying.
Imagine my disappointment when I finally get to the end, only to discover that the “hilarious song” was just Still Alive…
I bought the game shortly after release, but within a week it had already been memed to death and back again. I hadn’t been disappointed that much by a game ending since the NES days.
- Comment on Portal and Portal 2 are 80% off 3 days ago:
I would argue that the upgrade makes it look better than the sequel. The path tracing is really good.
I don’t think Portal 2 ever got the RTX treatment, but please correct me if I’m wrong, because I need a good excuse to play it again.

- Comment on 3 Outdoor broadband hub UK 3 days ago:
If they’re anything like the Verizon 5G gateways in the US that go in the window, then yes they’re great. So long as they use mmWave ultra wideband, and you have direct line of sight to the tower, they’re as good as a wired connection IMO. I get 1400Mbps both ways; literally maxes out my gigabit lines and I have to use wifi to hit those speeds. Latency is good enough to play competitive shooters too. I absolutely love it. And for only $50/mo it’s literally twice as fast as cable for half the price.
- Comment on Move Fast and Break Nothing | Waymo’s robotaxis are probably safer than ChatGPT. 4 days ago:
As someone who has been on over 50 Waymo rides, I trust them more than any human driver. They drive extremely carefully see things coming that I would have never seen coming. Only thing that annoys me is that they do stupid little things like turning left from the left lane instead of the center lane, or cruising in the left lane, exactly at the speed limit.
- Comment on Whoa! Windows 7's market share surged, tripling in users last month 5 days ago:
I use this on my DJ laptop. It’s nice because it doesn’t constantly bother you with bullshit, and is extremely stable.
Anyone still stuck on 10 who isn’t ready for Linux just yet should give LTSC a try. You’ll probably like it. It’s not going away anytime soon, either, because it is used in mission critical things like ATMs and cash registers that need to just work without being bothered with constant updates and reboots nor being bombarded with ads.

- Comment on Why are podcasters/vloggers suddenly holding tiny mics? 1 week ago:
IDK why but it it annoys the hell out of me, especially given that those kind of mics are meant to be worn on your shirt.
If you’re going to make a career out of media, you should at least know how to use your equipment properly. It’s unprofessional and almost as annoying as starting your video out with “hey guys”. Take a basic course on communications before you begin broadcasting is all I’m saying. Put in the bare minimum effort.

Jesus Fucking Christ, it was $4.99/month a few years ago; what did Microsoft expect? Even at that price it was hardly worth paying for…
I haven’t paid a subscription for entertainment for a handful of years now, but now I’m starting to understand why people are canceling streaming services en masse. Disney+ was $6.99/mo back when I had it but I heard it’s also $20-something a month now too. People just needed a good excuse to cancel, and now they have one.
- Comment on Is anyone NOT steaming their Music? 1 week ago:
Don’t be ridiculous. Why would I pay for streaming, when there are endless ways to get it for free?
Yeah I had a carefully curated collection back in the 90s and 2000s, but I don’t see the point of meticulously building playlists anymore when an algorithm can do it for me in an instant.
Only reason why I even still have music on my PC is because I’m a DJ. So I maintain a rotating collection of about 500 tunes in lossless quality, and only because you can’t always rely on streaming for a mobile gig, since wifi and/or cell data isn’t always available. If I could I would just clear up the hard drive space, and only keep the tunes that I absolutely must have in high quality. (And for nostalgia’a sake I still keep a copy of the first two songs I ever downloaded from Napster back in 2000.)

- Comment on There is a limit how much power the pedal assist of an e-Bike is allowed to provide (at least in many countries). There is no limit though on how strong the exoskeletton is that you use on a regular b 1 week ago:
As someone who has built several eBikes, you can easily bypass the pedal assist limiter simply by not installing it. Connect the control box to the throttle and nothing else (except the battery, of course). Now it’ll behave just like a motorcycle. Press the throttle to go, let go and hit the brakes to stop. Nothing will prevent the throttle from cutting out other than your own hand.
- Comment on How do I stop sleeping through everything? 1 week ago:
Switch to cannabis. Any strain high in in mycrene will knock you out cold without causing issues with waking up. MFused’s Super Fog is a good product line for something discreet with a full spectrum high. Or Micro Bar if you want want to sleep well and remain stealthy but prefer your weed to taste like candy.
Alternatively, you could go all out, invest in a dab rig and start buying wax/shatter/crumble/batter. Or if stinking up the neighborhood isn’t a concern, you could just buy buds and roll up some joints the good old fashioned way.
I suppose your available options all depend on where you live, but cannabis for sleep is something to seriously consider. The only downside is that it reduces REM sleep, but given that you’re already having sleep issues, not remembering most dreams and feeling slightly tired in the morning might be a reasonable tradeoff for you.

I find YouTube playing on my phone with the screen off helps me. Just search for “to fall asleep to” and throw on any several hours long video you like from the results.
(You can install YouTube ReVanced to enable the option to use YT with the screen off without having to pay for Premium.)
- Comment on How do I stop sleeping through everything? 1 week ago:
Agreed. I keep my alarm on silent because the vibrations from my smartwatch do a much better job at waking me up than the sound from my phone or an alarm clock does. The sleep tracking features could also help provide some insights as to why OP is having issues to begin with.
- Comment on How do I stop sleeping through everything? 1 week ago:
Always fall asleep and get up at the same time every single day—even on your days off—and eventually your body will start waking up on time on its own without fail. Takes a couple of months of consistency, but once you’re in the habit, you practically won’t need an alarm clock anymore.
Of course this only works if you have a job where your hours are consistent. If that’s not the case, I feel for you.
Also consider a smartwatch (or even just a normal watch with a vibration motor). I find that the vibrations of the watch wake me up better than sound does for some reason. Try it for yourself and see if it help. Also, the sleep tracking features of a smartwatch could help provide some insight as to why you’re having an issue to begin with (along with a sleep study, as previously mentioned).
