Yes, you can go fishing with just your bare hands if you’re skilled enough.
- Comment on DVDs are the new vinyl records: Why Gen Z is embracing physical media 5 days ago:
The only reason I can think of is for the bonus content. When you pirate, you generally just get the movie/show and nothing else. No behind the scenes extras, no deleted scenes, no director’s commentary, etc. Even Blu Ray discs are often lacking in this category. DVDs were peak for special features.

My main issue is losing YouTube ReVanced. I refuse to pay for Premium! Especially to one of the wealthiest companies in the world!
- Comment on YouTube adds new hurdles for ad blockers, and there's currently no way around it 2 weeks ago:
It surely doesn’t help that YouTube has replaced broadcast TV for most people. You can’t even go back if you wanted to because TV is all but dead these days. Not unless you don’t mind 24-7/365 marathons of Ridiculousness on MTV, and nothing but reality TV and old shows catered to 80-year-olds on the remaining channels.
- Comment on YouTube adds new hurdles for ad blockers, and there's currently no way around it 2 weeks ago:
Ublock Lite works on Chrome. There are no custom filters and it doesn’t block a lot of annoyances, but it gets the job done for most people.
But honestly if you want have the most reliable adblocking experience, then Firefox w/Ublock Origin is still your best bet (also YouTube ReVanced for mobile and SmartTube/SmartTubeNext for TVs).

I don’t remember pedaling my eBike, either. With a big enough motor, they’re all but completely vestigal.
- Comment on Why are people disconnecting or destroying their Ring cameras? 2 weeks ago:
Yes and I hate them cause it’s a pain in the ass having to route all my drives around them. Some routes take me 3x as long as they should cause of that stupid privacy-invading bullshit.
- Comment on Why are people disconnecting or destroying their Ring cameras? 2 weeks ago:
I honestly didn’t know what they were thinking with that commercial. Why would you proudly advertise that you’ve built a massive surveillance network, on one of the most-watched yearly televised events too for that matter? Did they seriously believe that there wouldn’t be a major backlash? I mean I appreciate the blunt honesty in that commercial so I’ll give them credit for that.
- Comment on Discord will require a face scan or ID for full access next month 3 weeks ago:
Is Matrix a self-hosted alternative to Discord? I’ve been looking for one but the closest I can find is RocketChat, which is meant more for corporate environments. I’m going to be launching a radio station for Lemmy soon and I need a suitable solution for chat platform that I can integrate with my website (and eventually app).

Tell me about it. I also paid about the same for a 1070 back in 2016 and it lasted me all the way until 2022, when I finally decided to be a sucker and pony up the $1800 for a 4090 at launch. Which as insane as that is, I’m glad I did because now 4090s go for about $3K ***used! ***
If you didn’t buy a new GPU by mid 2023, you’re pretty much stuck with what you have for the foreseeable future, given how insane prices are now with no signs of slowing down.

Excellent; thanks for the heads up. I’ll avoid the drama and pirate any component that requires a licensing fee.

- Comment on Nvidia might not have any new gaming GPUs in 2026 — and could be 'slashing production' of existing GeForce models 3 weeks ago:
I will when someone makes a GPU that can surpass a 4090. Not even Nvidia themselves can pull that off, so I’m not getting my hopes up. I’m going to me stuck with this GPU for the next decade the way things are going (not that I’m complaining. It’s a beast of a card, especially coming from someone who could only ever afford bargain bin parts until one day I came into a windfall. That was a fun 4 years.

Leave it in HDR next time. As someone who owns an HDR monitor and a phone with an HDR display, there is simply not enough content out there outside of movies and games.

IDK I was able to remap it just fine using Power Toys.

Which emulator fixes the wobbling and upscale the textures again? The games I’ve seen in that emulator look great, nearly as good as PS2 games.
- Comment on Consumer hardware is no longer a priority for manufacturers 3 weeks ago:
I hope you’re right because Intel and AMD still can’t compete with high end Nvidia cards, and that’s how we ended up with a $5000 5090.

Nah, most people in the US have no idea any of this is going on. For the vast majority of Americans, their daily lives have not been affected at all. None of my coworkers are talking about ICE. Personally I haven’t since a single ICE officer since. They only go after the “liberal” states. Purple and Red states are being left alone for the time being.

At this point I’m pretending that the game hasn’t even been announced yet.
I admit I bought an XBOX 360 for GTA V so I wouldn’t have to wait for PC, but TBF you could get a used 360 for about $60 because the next gen was just around the corner. I’m not seeing any PS5s selling for sntjerre near that cheap, so I won’t be playing GTA VI until it releases on PC this time around.
