I’m only partially serious.
Umami isn’t subjective, though. It’s one of the five basic tastes.
- Comment on Has Fast Food Gotten Worse, or Am I Just Getting Old? 2 days ago:
The fact that you don’t like tomatoes in of itself is proof that the problem is with your taste buds. Tomatoes are high glutamic acid (umami), and I’ve never heard of a person who didn’t like savory foods.
There’s a reason why MSG is making a comeback: because it tastes good (and because people are finally starting to figure out that its stigma is deeply-rooted in racism. It’s better for you than salt).
- Comment on Why are people preferring Blue Sky over Mastodon? 2 days ago:
This exactly. I didn’t join Lemmy for a long time, because I would search for “Lemmy”, get confused when I see a page asking me to “pick an instance” instead of seeing a front page, and then leave because I thought that they were all independent from each other.
It wasn’t until reddit killed my favorite app that I finally decided to put in the effort to figure it out.

- Comment on How else are ypu supposed to check for a beam on your accelerator? 6 days ago:
Well regardless they were either trolling, or you’re misremembering. Like the other person said, there’s only one known incident of this, and the beam fried part of his brain. Not something you would want to do just to check if the accelerator is working. You’d be completely brain-dead after the 2nd or 3rd time.

- Comment on M4 Mac Mini Power Button Has New Bottom Location 2 weeks ago:
To be fair, if you have a home lab setup (or even a simple server), you’re not the average computer user.
- Comment on M4 Mac Mini Power Button Has New Bottom Location 2 weeks ago:
I’m not an Apple fanboy, nor have I ever purchased one of their products (and I don’t plan to), but I’m actually fine with this because there are lots of USB-C mice and keyboards on the market these days in every price range. At the very most, you might have to buy a different cable because the ones I’ve bought tend to come with USB-C to USB-A cables instead of C to C. But eventually that will change as USB-A is inevitably phased out.
- Comment on M4 Mac Mini Power Button Has New Bottom Location 2 weeks ago:
What the hell are you talking about? I push the power button every single day on my PC. I’m aware that wake on LAN is a thing, but your average computer user doesn’t utilize that feature. And only a psychopath who doesn’t care about their power bill nor the environment would leave their PC running 24/7.

- Comment on Elon Musk Fans Are Losing So Much Money to Crypto Scams 2 weeks ago:
Speak for yourself. Personally I turned $12K into $36K when the US government allowed bitcoin to be traded on the stock market as an ETF. Yet everyone here keeps trying to tell me that it’s a scam. Which is weird, because I bought a car, an OLED TV, and built a $4000 gaming machine with my “fake internet money”, as everyone here likes to call it.
All this stuff I bought with my earnings seems real to me. But hey, keep downvoting and calling me an idiot, like you always do, when I bring up the point that not everyone is stupid enough to lose money with crypto.
- Comment on Elon Musk Fans Are Losing So Much Money to Crypto Scams 2 weeks ago:
Can agree. I used to think I was savvy enough to avoid getting scammed, until I followed a link that a person who was pretending to be a mechanic gave me to purchase parts for my car. I ended up spending $1300 on parts that didn’t exist.
Long story short, I eventually got my money back after arguing with my bank’s fraud department for several months. I wish I had could afford a lawyer so I could sue this guy for pain and suffering + the thousands I spent in Uber/Lyft/Waymo getting to work while I didn’t have a car.
- Comment on Why do cell phones have a data limit but home internet doesn't? 3 weeks ago:
And not all cell service is limited. I switched from cable to 5G fixed wireless, because I was tired of having a data cap. It’s faster and cheaper too.

All I want is a space pirate game that doesn’t require me to quit my job and dedicate my life to it in order to acquire a good enough ship to actually be competitive.
That, or a street racing MMO with realistic physics and a true-to-life level of customization and tuning, that has a map the size of small country. Like The Crew except no arcade physics and more than 5 players in a server. And also not shit.
Somebody, please make one of these two games already. I need this so badly in my lifetime before I die.
- Comment on YSK that Amazon has different prices for different people 3 weeks ago:
Use Firefox and max out all of its security settings. When you do this, the fingerprint protection is so good that not even Google can ID my PC anymore. I have to pull out my phone and confirm it’s me every time I log in.
- Comment on Drink it, I dare ya 3 weeks ago:
It’s also one of the few ways to get enough potassium, an essential nutrient for life (that, or eat a shitload of avocado-based dishes every single day). Learn to love it if you want to live a long life. There are also coconut-based drinks like Body Armor that don’t taste like coconut, but nothing beats the original source when it comes to getting the most potassium per dollar. So it’s best to get used to it and get over it like I did. Eventually you’ll enjoy the taste.

- Comment on Nintendo Targets YouTube Accounts Showing Emulated Games 1 month ago:
Of course not; don’t be silly. There were no emulators available when I bought one. Plus it was more of a present for the GF anyway, and she still uses it as a Ring Fit machine.
- Comment on Nintendo Targets YouTube Accounts Showing Emulated Games 1 month ago:
The Switch was my last console purchase; I’m never buying another console from anyone ever again. I haven’t touched it in years cause every time I new game comes out that I want to play, I just pirate it instead. Why bother playing new releases on an underpowered, outdated handheld that struggles to render in 1080p, when I can play them in 4K on my PC at 60-120 FPS instead? Seriously, fuck Nintendo. Between their crappy hardware and crusade against gamers, I have zero reason to give them another cent of my hard-earned cash.
- Comment on Man-in-the-Middle PCB Unlocks HP Ink Cartridges 1 month ago:
So I can keep it in a central location since there’s no food place for it in the office, and print being able to quickly print something from my phone is convenient (like a photo from my phone to give to a visiting family member on the spot).
FWIW you can always disable wifi if you don’t need it.
- Comment on Man-in-the-Middle PCB Unlocks HP Ink Cartridges 1 month ago:
So never update my firmware then, got it.
I couldn’t afford a Brother, but my Canon MG3620 works phenomenally with 3rd party ink. Another thing I like is that the software is delightfully stuck in the 90s. Simple and straightforward cause it literally hasn’t changed since I was a kid. Yet you still get modern features like wireless and mobile printing, as well as borderless options. Everything I need a printer/scanner combo to do, and nothing more.

Do you know of a good free alternative to YouTube? Preferably one with a smarter algorithm that doesn’t just feed me the same boring bullshit over and over again?
Yes I like cars, computers, and video game history, YouTube, but I like other things too, you know. I wish there were a way to view other people’s YT homepages so that I can find something new to watch.
- Comment on Rockstar Games DDoSed Heavily By Players Protesting New AntiCheat Code 1 month ago:
I sure hope not cause GTA Online is trash if you want to do anything other than Free Mode. I got so sick and tired of all the loading screens, disconnects, and empty lobbies. Even when they apparently “fixed” the loading issue, all it did was speed up the connection Free Mode. Hosting/joining a mission still takes ages and nobody ever joins any of my games so I gave up and went to FiveM full-time. If that gets shut down by anti-cheat then I’m going back to GTA IV. Cops N’ Crooks is more fun than anything GTA Online has to offer, anyway.

The first thing I do every time I step into a hotel room is check the filter. If it’s dirty, then I bring it to the front desk to show them. I always get a free upgrade… to another room with an equally dirty filter. Which at that point I remove it and toss it in the stairwell to let it be maintenance’s problem. I can’t be bothered to put in more effort than that if the staff can’t be bothered to replace their filters.
