But they’re existence is meaningless without enforcement. You’re actually proving my point. Are people going to jail for eating ice cream on Tuesday wearing jeans? Then it’s exactly the same as if the law didn’t exist. It means nothing in practice until some stupid cops and prosecutors decide to enforce it

Ah one of those “technically everything man-made is also natural” people. You’ve completely missed the point. The point is the law doesn’t exist independently of people enforcing it. It isn’t some natural force that will enforce itself. It only exists if people enforce it

I guess my point is that more needs to be done to ensure enforcement. People are still acting like the law is being enforced when it isn’t. It’s never been enforced with 100% consistency, but when the leaders of a country start being able to openly ignore the law, a dictatorship is rising. I’d like people to show more awareness of what’s happening and stop pretending the law is protecting them

Or “they wouldn’t do that, people would riot”. People should already be rioting for so many reasons

Too bad it’s possible for the fucking president of a country to blatantly break the law at every turn without consequences

My rant is about people assuming the law will prevail when sometimes it doesn’t. People act like the law is a force of nature that inevitably punishes wrongdoing. Unfortunately, sometimes it doesn’t.

Good luck actually getting these laws enforced

Yes but thise laws are based in their social contracts with eachother and relies on them to enforce them

Part of what bothers me is that they think it’s justified to execute people without trial. Even if this woman were a criminal (which she wasn’t) she still wouldn’t have been guilty of anything warranting the death penalty. Disobeying cops shouldn’t warrant instant death penalty. Shoplifting shouldn’t warrant instant death penalty. Even if she tried to run them over, which I doubt, it wouldn’t warrant instant death penalty, and it certainly wouldn’t warrant instant death penalty FOR HER BABY
