Theory is that the human (and maybe other) brain creates a simulation of the world experienced through the senses and that ‘you’ interact with that. Everybody has their own simulation, no code to speak of. Drugs can ‘hack’ it by messing with the simulation and perception.
- Comment on Vibe coding has turned senior devs into ‘AI babysitters,’ but they say it’s worth it | TechCrunch 1 day ago:
I have never tried to use AI to develop software, just looked at the output that sometimes shows up in google searches. Noises are starting to come from on-high about an AI ‘push’, so I may need to show some basic awareness. Any suggestions on how to get started or should I just ask the AI?
- Comment on In a week dominated by Silksong and Borderlands, co-op roguelike Shape of Dreams still managed to launch on Steam as an instant top-seller 1 day ago:
Looks like a rogue version of Grim Dawn, but I did not try the demo.
If developers have a solid game, I wish they to put one promo video and one here’ how game play works video out.

I estimate that 60% of my phone use is for audiobooks while driving.

No, I think it is more a monkeys paw sort of thing.

My trick is to shout HIYA really loud when I open it. I did learn to warn people I am going to do this first, so they don’t drop a cheese plate and then chase you with a broom.

There are so many ‘cult objects’ in anthropology that are probably just sex toys.

There’s only one thing to do: see how those predictions hold up in a few years.
Or, you know, do the sensible thing and called the dude the snake oil salesman he is and run him out of town on a rail.

I think with all the lost sales and bad PR this will generate, that may be the case.
- Comment on YouTube is now flagging accounts on Premium family plans that aren't in the same household 2 weeks ago:
YT forces me to login if I am using a VPN these days, if I use Firefox or Safari. Brave avoids this. I will have to try Mullvad.
- Comment on Joseph is still not buying her story 2 weeks ago:
Major belief of catholosism is Mary was born without sin. She is called the virgin, even after having at least two children. First kid was born out of wedlock and wasn’t her betrotheds either. Best PR spin job ever!
- Comment on Mommy, Why is There a Server in the House? 2 weeks ago:
Man with a hammer rule definitely applies to SAs. If your skills are in Micro$oft then every problem is best solved with MS, even when it isn’t.
I tried to come up with a gender-neutral way of saying ‘man with a hammer’ and failed. Please make some suggestions for me.
- Comment on Llama 2 weeks ago:
Some sort of beetle (3/4 of species are beetles, so playing the odds here).
- Comment on If conditions on earth are perfect for life to form shouldn't have happened more than once? 2 weeks ago:
Someone did an experiment to try and simulate conditions that may have existed at the time. After a while they analyzed what developed and did find some basic building blocks needed for life. You can’t simulate the time scale that would be needed and they greatly increased the probable conditions, but still impressive.
- Comment on Is it? 2 weeks ago:
Yes, to me there seems to be a natural progression to bread. Wild grains, dried grains, crushed grains, dough, wild yeast falls on the still wet dough, campfire bread.
- Comment on 4chan and Kiwi Farms Sue the UK Over its Age Verification Law 2 weeks ago:
US representative democracy may be a failed system, but it was designed in the 18th century when travel and long range communications was time consuming. Needs a major revamp for the digital world, and we are getting to the point where that could be possible (technology, at least).

- Comment on LibreOffice is right about Microsoft, and it matters more than you think. 4 weeks ago:
I mean, they could just really suck at writing good software. Isn’t some sort of rule of thumb law to never attribute to malicious intent what can just as easily be explained by stupidity?
- Comment on AI experts return from China stunned: The U.S. grid is so weak, the race may already be over 4 weeks ago:
The telling lies part is not good, but I think the dream of AI is a servant (or slave) with unlimited potential that can solve, until now, unsolvable problems. Cure for cancer, sure that will be $10k a pill. Eternal life? Sure that will be 1 million dollars a years for all eternity. Robot army to protect you? Top of the list.
Question I have is, is the AI we see the same AI the teck bros see? Is there a public interface that is made to appear a little buffoonish so the masses can laugh it off, but the real interface is much much better? - Comment on 100% vegetarian 4 weeks ago:
So, if the steer dies of old age, surrounded by loved ones, would the beef be vegan? Sounds like the only ‘logic’ that could work for the ad.

AI reminds me of how nuclear fusion has been around for decades, and you would read the occasional article about some small advancement and it always seemed to be 10 years away and then suddenly they are building a power plant somewhere when it doesn’t even work yet.
