Do any countries provide email services to their citizens? Of course email is no use unless you have a way to access it, so you would need to add some sort of basic internet connection. And of course you would need something to connect with…
- Comment on Does the 2 hour refund limit on Steam affect game design? 6 days ago:
I will check out utube videos on the game before buying, if the game is over a certain price and a complex game. This will spoil some things, but it is usually not too bad.
- Comment on LG TVs’ integrated ads get more personal with tech that analyzes viewer emotions 1 week ago:
Buying a TV should be a one time cost. These companies trying to create a continuing income where none exists is just rampant greed. Don’t want to pay the cost of updating and distributing your software? The open source it and get back to making better TVs.

I believe there are laws in the EU that would be violated by many rightwing posts (such as glorifying nazis in Germany). The litmus test would be if a complaint about these violations would cause an account to be banned.

- Comment on AI isn’t ready to replace human coders for debugging, researchers say 1 week ago:
Can AI fix itself so that it gets better at a task? I don’t see how that could be possible, it would just fall into a feed back loop where it gets stranger and stranger.
Personally, I will always lie to AI when asked for feed back. - Comment on ooo.ooo 2 weeks ago:

- Comment on Are PC handhelds like Steam Deck really competitors for Switch 2? 2 weeks ago:
If you try to buy a game on the deck that isn’t verified to run there you get a warning. Meanwhile you have a limited selection on the switch of over priced games.

My dad would use the term ‘blowing purple smoke up my ass’ to mean someone was lying to him or trying to scam him. Never understood that.

1 point. Never used a boombox. And yes, I have written a check at a store while people waited in line behind me. Their cold angry stares still haunt me.
- Comment on Replit CEO Amjad Masad says learning to code is a waste of time, citing Dario Amodei's prediction that AI may generate essentially all code by next year. 3 weeks ago:
Someone has pointed out it would be lot easier for AI to replace a CEO then a developer.

That is the mother load of all code bases. Probably still some COBOL if not mostly cobol.

The carriage could be on a barge and is just being pulled by the horse. How is the horse getting traction? And why is that man using a cane on water! The small balloons could just be artistic license for the drawing.

Why does Italy always seem to have these weird court rulings that sound detached from reality? Like suing geologists for not predicting when a volcano was going to erupt.

- Comment on Anyone remember this? 1 month ago:
I worked at a company pre-internet that had an Arpanet connection. I started working there as a Cobol programmer and thought this was magic. I later got to set up a dial -up uucp network to customer sites. I think I still have some 300 baud rabbit ears I used to monitor systems from home.
