For some of the really prolific posters, yes. But there are also lurkers like me.
I doubt anyone can recognize me when I comment or encounter a comment I made.
Anomalocaris@lemm.ee 1 month ago
I’m order to prove you wrong, I am committed to remembering your username.
megane_kun@lemm.ee 1 month ago
Thanks…?
Let’s see when we meet each other in some other corner of Lemmy.
angrystego@lemmy.world 1 month ago
I love your username, I used to use it on another platform.
mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 month ago
User tags make recognizing people a lot easier. I see tagged users a lot. Voyager even keeps a running total of how many times I have upvoted and downvoted particular users.
There’s one user I have at like -30, tagged as a Nazi apologist. And sure enough, every time I scroll past them, they’re commenting some weird BS.
megane_kun@lemm.ee 1 month ago
Oh, I use that too on my mobile app (Voyager). I am starting to think that once the total votes reach some threshold, either I’d encounter them consistently dishing out hot takes, or I’m primed to think their take is hot and spicy.
CombatWombat1212@lemmy.ml 1 month ago
I will never forget you.
megane_kun@lemm.ee 1 month ago
I don’t think I’ve done anything that would warrant that, but thanks!

I’m just hanging around at random places. Wherever my fancy takes me.
I rarely post too, since I rarely have anything to say or add.
Kirk@startrek.website 1 month ago
Potentially unpopular protip: I’ve blocked most of the “prolific” posters. My entire feed was becoming repurposed memes from 2015.
I’m happy there are people out there dedicating time to keeping Lemmy “active” but that is not how I want to live my life.
PillowTalk420@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Having a pfp greatly increases my recognition of other users. So you’re already proving more recognizable than most users who have none.
megane_kun@lemm.ee 1 month ago
Can’t remember why I put a profile picture here, but I was thinking “oh, someone might use the same username I use in some other instance, so I guess I’ll put something to differentiate.”
Whether or not that actually hurts my own statement, I’ll leave it for the others to decide. I think posting/comment volume + striking username (and profile picture) + unique voice = recognizability. I think only have one of three, so… IDK!
toy_boat_toy_boat@lemmy.world 1 month ago
that’s why i like it. on reddit, i’m just some other idiot smartass. on lemmy, i’m THAT idiot smartass. i’ve also done a great job convincing people i live in canada, while all the while i’m up here chilling in canada. fools, the lot of you.

Guys, I’m beginning to suspect this guy might live in canada.

Yea I made a throwaway so nobody can recognize me.
Try doxxing me now 😉
(But seriously tho, there were weirdos that follow you around and mass dovote 🤷♂️)
Lemminary@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Not just that, but they also use those tagging extensions in case they have an opportunity to bring up some shit from the past because they have nothing better to do than to keep tabs on everyone like it matters. Very normal and stable people.

paraphrand@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Voyager enhances his effect by counting your votes on individuals. You start seeing people with big numbers on some people.
henfredemars@infosec.pub 1 month ago
I use Voyager but I don’t see this. Is it a feature I have to turn on?
paraphrand@lemmy.world 1 month ago
You can find it in the User Tags section in the prefs. If you don’t see it, your voyager might be really out of date.
You have a [+3] for me!
belluck@lemm.ee 1 month ago
It’s on by default. The number should appear ne t to the username once you’ve liked o

Wouldn’t sock puppeting be much easier on Lemmy? Or does Lemmy implement a minimum account age system like Reddit does?
Dempf@lemmy.zip 1 month ago
It would be pretty easily though, if anyone starts to think that it’s important.

What happened to FlyingSquid
mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 month ago
IIRC, they were having some health issues. It’s possible that it likely got too overwhelming, and they took time away from Lemmy to focus on their health.
rothaine@lemm.ee 1 month ago
Oh 😢
MrShankles@reddthat.com 1 month ago
I suspect they’re also using an alt now to lurk/comment and not posting like they were. There’s a user I saw that seemed to track, but could also be a coincidence. Hope they’re good regardless of anyone’s opinion, we’re all still just people here at the end of the day
ayyy@sh.itjust.works 1 month ago
They started being a huge asshole, and when called out for it just up and left.

your privacy is worse on lemmy. anyone can access all your comment and post upvotes and downvotes. your pms are open for server admins to read. both examples need to be fixed imo
ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 month ago
Btw, your PMs being available to admins is the same on like every socmed. If you have to use lemmy as your secure method of communication (you shouldn’t), at least use PGP, but lemmy isn’t meant for that, use XMPP or Matrix or even Signal I guess.

People DM each other on Lemmy?
tauren@lemm.ee 1 month ago
TIL that feature exists
Kekzkrieger@feddit.org 1 month ago
So can you on reddit.
rowdyrockets@lemm.ee 1 month ago
Your privacy is the same on either. But now, anyone can gain that information, not just Reddit’s investors and partners.
It’s what you write on these platforms that effects your privacy.
oppy1984@lemm.ee 1 month ago
Look at it this way, in a small town people are more likely to be kind and offer higher quality information when asked. The same things can be said about lemmy.
Zenith@lemm.ee 1 month ago
It feels like Reddit felt twenty years ago
Magnus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 month ago
It’s the same with every small forum tbh

Also, blocking people you don’t like is far more effective.
