The “bell beaker” people and culture is a fun rabbit hole for anyone interested in ancient water carrying technologies

- Comment on Amazon boss tells staff AI means their jobs are at risk in coming years 1 day ago:
They’re actually significantly below their current hiring target at the executive level and people are leaving left and right.
- Comment on Amazon boss tells staff AI means their jobs are at risk in coming years 1 day ago:
Amazon is currently hemorrhaging executive level and above engineers. Amazon will have to be replacing these jobs with AI cause every one of value has already left/is leaving and filling those jobs with qualified people at that level is actually a lot more difficult than more junior level positions.

What if you just spoofed a police report about a threat?
- Comment on Minnesota Shooting Suspect Allegedly Used Data Broker Sites to Find Targets’ Addresses 3 days ago:
Idk if I’m planning on murdering someone I’m not keeping it in digital form where who knows who or what is stealing/scraping it or using a back door or whatever. Deleting stuff off a computer can also be difficult with insane things being recovered off computers. I would have zero interest in linking anything illegal to anything digital in this day and age.
- Comment on Minnesota Shooting Suspect Allegedly Used Data Broker Sites to Find Targets’ Addresses 3 days ago:
That depends entirely on how sneaky and unscrupulous you’re willing to be lol
I’m sorry you’re dealing with this, it’s a shitty place to be. Personally I’ve had friends have some success with anti-cult/anti-brainsashing techniques but even when done under ideal conditions with people in obvious and outright cults it can fail. The human brain really just is wired in such a way cult think can genuinely hijack it
- Comment on Meta rolled back protections. Now hate is surging. 3 days ago:
Idk I’ve never considered forums where you talk to strangers to be social media. If I don’t know anyone it’s not “social” to me, it’s one step away from talking to myself to be on a site like Lemmy or Reddit

I found I wasn’t getting anything out of it so I just stopped using it, after three months I just deleted it. Facebook legit sucks, like it’s nothing but ads and garbage so it felt super easy to get rid of for me. I also figured if there’s pictures there they’re also already on my phone and if they’re not it’s not like I know which ones to miss them, like it if I don’t know it exists anymore I can’t actually miss not having it so I just straight up chucked the whole thing in the trash. I’ve had zero interest in going back. I think years ago it would have been harder but now? There’s literally nothing of value to bring me back

For a lot of people that say of thinking doesn’t work, they explicitly don’t want to/wont go without, people enjoy luxury and convenience and aren’t going to skate by on only things they strictly need

- Comment on we are not the same 6 days ago:
I helped start a subreddit that was like “thatweirdbathroomdream” or something, I don’t remember it was easily a decade ago explicitly for people to talk about their weird bathrooms! Apparently it’s a typically American dream (so is losing your teeth but cutting your hair/hair falling out is more universal) and typically includes unusual open spaces, lack of privacy, unusual lighting, they typically also are clean like this or filthy, or at least the toilet you interact with could be filthy. I find collective cultural dreams to be SO fascinating

I’m confused why you would lose your license for being hit by someone else, that only happens if you are the one who caused the accident and were negligent enough that it was an unreasonable accident.
That said I do believe driving is a basic skill, in an emergency knowing how to drive can be critical, it can be life or death and not being able to transport yourself or others can have very serious consequences. Independence is another issue, you want to rely on other people to do nearly anything for the rest of your life? Unless you live in a large city with good public transportation giving up the ability to drive will absolutely cripple your personal development in the long term, you remain a child reliant on those around you and it’s really not cute once you’re 40 and still begging to hitch rides.
I don’t think think you need to be driving all the time but you absolutely should know how and be familiar incase you ever do need to respond to an emergency or you end up in an abusive situation. Choosing to remain dependent serves no one. Find a better driving school, ask your boyfriend to practice with you, drive in big empty parking lots or low speed roads, you’re literally in control of the car wether you feel like it or not and building confidence and getting some experience will help your feelings match reality

- Comment on where are worker rights parades? why are we focusing on very limited issues? 1 week ago:
Have you ever noticed when you make a point there always someone saying well what about x, y and z? Or pointing out that something they personally relate to wasn’t directly called out so they’re being excluded? A lot of people would see something focused on workers rights/labor and go off on some tangent about how they’re unemployed so they’re being discriminated against or how it’s more important that we focus on trans issues and labor is just a distraction/you’re purposefully trying to distract from other movements or the group that only wants to destroy because they don’t believe what we have is worth saving (these types are overwhelmingly abelist and don’t realize how much disabled people would suffer and die if we just threw the whole system out) we don’t have a labor focused movement because there’s so many voices that want center stage for their pet interests and they understand a large unifying movement that allows people they see as less morally righteous on the door is a threat to them and their imagined moral superiority

- Comment on Would alcohol be as popular if it weren't a beverage? 1 week ago:
I think of it was a pill it would be waaaayy more popular. A lot of people avoid alcohol because it’s disgusting, including me, but if I could skip having to drink disgusting liquid to get drunk I’d consume a lot more of it. Snorting probably would be more popular too as long as it didn’t smell bad or burn to do. I like alcohol and hate drinking so I don’t drink but if drinking is taken out of the picture…. I’d be down
