I’m optimistic! My parents weren’t perfect, but I absolutely appreciate everything they did now, and have told them so.

I am cracking up at this. Please save this comment word-for-word in a journal or something. Because when he’s older and truly appreciates all you’ve done for him you’re going to find it even funnier than I did to remind him of this!

If he’s “able-bodied”, why are you taking care of him? If you’re able-bodied, why is he financially taking care of you? That’s not judgement btw, but you should both have an answer for it…
Is this a temporary situation while one of you (or ideally both) prepare for the next Big Thing? That could be school, exercise, training, dating, moving, founding, socializing, building, improving, etc. But if you’re not doing that, you’re each holding yourself back. As for what to call it, I don’t know, but that’s my unsolicited advice.

Such a “difficult decision”! Strange that it enriches them and their shareholders…

VPNs cost money to run. If you’re not paying anything, you and your data are the product being sold. Also, be aware that you’re trading trusting your ISP with your online activity for trusting another for-profit company with your online activity…

If I rated every app I use for home and work, every place I visit, every product I buy, every game I play, every program I use, every ride I take, every shopping experience I have, and every thing I have delivered… That would be my entire life. More power to you if you have the time and desire to, but nobody’s paying me for this.

Whether intentional or not, this is gaslighting. “Here’s the trendy reaction those wacky lemmings are currently upvoting!”
Getting to the core issue, of course we’re sick of AI, and have a negative opinion of it! It’s being forced into every product, whether it makes sense or not. It’s literally taking developer jobs, then doing worse. It’s burning fossil fuels and VC money and then hallucinating nonsense, but still it’s being jammed down our throats when the vast memory of us see no use-case or benefit from it. But feel free to roll your eyes at those acknowledging the truth…

Fun fact: you know those spots some animals have, like leopards or dalmatians? Humans do not have them.
- Comment on US-Russia plan truce deal that would cement Putin’s gains in Ukraine, Bloomberg reports 2 weeks ago:
gargle gargle gargle "Mmm, tastes like authoritarianism!"
- It hasn’t ended
- Ukraine wasn’t even involved (y’know, the country that was invaded?)
- If they get to keep stolen territory, that literally incentivizes Russia to violently invade another sovereign nation
- Ukraine simply needs a little bit of support to repel Russia
- I trust the Ukrainian people to make their own decisions about their country’s future

I definitely understand the instinct to always be up-to-date with the newest. But then digital storefront “updates” started removing features and even content! Runaway capitalism ruins everything…

Really, really dishonest to demonize Microsoft who are in the middle of this. And I say that as someone who hates Microsoft and most of what they do! But this was intentionally painful sanctions decided on by the governments of 27 member countries. 🤷♂️ Don’t sell to Russia…

A “slur”? No. But I was referring to the overly strict, hair-splitting kind of religious extremism that adheres to the letter of the law, not the spirit/intent.
- Comment on Steam Users Rally Behind Anti-Censorship Petition 4 weeks ago:
You’re missing the point. This is not aimed at Valve, but at Visa and MasterCard. They are businesses. They primarily care about profit, not censorship. Especially when that pisses people off. They made the mistake of listening to the vocal minority of Collective Shout, so we have to let them know that. This isn’t the 80’s anymore, gaming is mainstream and there are far, far more gamers than puritanical Quakers that get the vapors at the sight of anything mature or complicated. And worst-case scenario, they are not the only payment processors, just your most convenient ones for customers and businesses. For now…

I’d imagine it’s like online advertisers: they convert your fingerprint to a token to try to sell you shit, but they allegedly don’t know who exactly you are or where you go. So visiting animatedllamaporn.com is still your little secret…
