You calm down, this person’s tapped a market of people willing to pay $10+ per drink from a vending machine! I wanna know their secret, cause I’m switching careers if I can pull ~$78k annually from a single machine
- Comment on Genius 1 week ago:
So about $10 a drink minimum (if we’re assuming $300/day gross income)?
If they can find 30 people per day to pay those prices, they need to quit their job and go full time into vending machine sales. They have a gift

I work weekends, so it’s hard for me to attend weekday stuff. But I took off of work on a Saturday to protest, because we need people out there. So I say do it on the weekdays too, and have people call-in to work to go.
Peaceful disruption by having mass call-ins on protest days; because it matters and it makes the protests harder to ignore when people aren’t going into work every time a protest happens. Keep it happening, and keep the pressure up. I can’t afford a vacation anyway, so I’ll save my PTO to get out there and call-in to work whenever. My time off is my time off, don’t matter why I’m calling-in because it’s none of their business

Well, you just saved me a bunch of time trying to figure out how to auto-update my humble little server. Granted, I only have Plex and Samba Share right now, but I like the principle. Hell, an update once blanked my smb config file for whatever reason
Now auto-backups are another thing; because I would like to use a .tar file, but then it leads me down a rabbit hole because I don’t know how to repair Grub if needed for a restore, or what Grub really even is vs Bios… I’ve just been learning as I go
I’m a few weeks away from getting a couple parts for an upgrade, and then it’ll be some fun. I want to redo it from scratch and maybe set up proxmox and change my file system to zfs, then start looking at docker, figure out Jellyfin and look at some ARR stuff… maybe tailscale or headscale. Idk, it’s just fun cause it’s a hobby. I just haven’t had the storage or ram really, but soon

The business major… reaps no reward from art and science… thus must weaken us (Art/STEM) to stay ahead
The “fault in reasoning” you describe is saying the same thing: there’s no reward from art and science for business majors, so they must instead gain from (Art/STEM) by weakening them. Capitalize on profit and extract reward from (Art/STEM), because business majors themselves, can’t extract reward from the original process
*** This is not an endorsement of my own opinion. I’m talking out my ass and have no relevant sources to back my statement, nor stake in any claim. Just typing words off the dome and trying to sound coherent for possible discussive-hypotheticals

Lmao, I was having the same thought. “Shore” wouldn’t have crossed my mind unless I’m talking about Gulf Shores. And that’s a beach town in my mind. Hell, I grew up close enough to Jersey and have lived near the Gulf of Mexico for over 20 years; “shore” just isn’t in my vocab like that

If you “add to Steam” from Heroic, will the game still receive any updates/patches, or would you have to re-add it to Steam?
- Comment on The Witcher III is currently on sale for 3€ until 25th May 1 month ago:
Is there any benefit to using the heroic launcher vs just downloading the game from GOG with the steamdeck’s browser and adding them to Steam? Like any patches or updates for the game would have to be done manually if not using heroic?
I’m starting to think I should use Heroic for ease of access and then adding whichever one’s I want to play at the time as a Non-steam game from there. But wasn’t sure what the pros and cons are. I appreciate the info
- Comment on The Witcher III is currently on sale for 3€ until 25th May 1 month ago:
Do you have a source on how to do this? I keep seeing that you have to use Heroic Launcher or Lutis. I just want to buy games on GOG and then play them on my steam deck, but haven’t had time to figure out the best way to go about it
Also, do GOG games only save to internal memory and not the SD card? I read that it one article, but don’t know if that’s still true.
I’m still figuring out everything I can do with my steam deck, I just don’t have as much time as I used to, to REALLY tinker around with it
I’m not a tech guru, but pretty familiar with linux and ok with using CLI (though I’ve never needed it on steam deck, just a point of reference for my comfortability)

I can’t wait to watch Strange New Worlds, but I’m saving it for now. And I love that the Voyager and Discovery themes are your go-to… because they’re the best ones! Haven’t even seen Discovery, but watched the intro and the theme song is excellent. And you’re correct, Janeway was morally right to seperate Tuvix. “Keep your shirt tucked in, go down with the ship, and never abandon a member of your crew”. Tuvix wasn’t a crew member, and her priority was to the both of them, not him alone… I’ll die on that hill too lol. But thank you, I’m excited that your excited for us! We’ve just been nerding out on it with no shame
Last bit that’s an unpopular opinion: I hate Bones. I understand his merit as a balancing character and he occasionally does or says something that really makes you say, “hell yeah, good on ya McCoy!”… but fuck Bones. I’m sorry, I’m not sorry; I can’t help it. He’s just a dick as his whole personality, to the point that it seems like he was mean as an actual person, not just a character. “Fuck Bones” is a running joke between us at this point. I just need him to get off the bridge and go do his job for the love of god, you don’t have to insert your hardline opinions about everything; nobody asked you. “You’re a doctor damnit, not a command officer!”— End rant. But I’ve noticed I’m in the minority on that one lol

I do plan on watching Discovery, despite what I’ve heard, because I still love the premise of it all, at the end of the day. I already know the first season will be rough… but idk, if I can get through season one of DS9 (and let’s be honest, season 2 as well), I think I’ll get into it. Cause by season 3 of DS9, it started to slap and felt like good 'ol space again, and I started to love it for it’s own flavor. So I’m optimistic and persistent enough lol
But yeah, it’s the best thing Lemmy has given to me because I’m more than officially hooked. Hell, my text ringtone is the TOS intercom tone and my wife has a Janeway popsocket on her phone (There’s a right way, a wrong way, and the Janeway). We have TOS on blueray and I’m planning on hitting up the library for the rest… y’all got us pretty good, to say the least lmao But we appreciate it
- Comment on [deleted] 1 month ago:
Yup, got the wife on board too lol. We both love Sci-Fi, but neither of us ever watched it. And then suddenly, we had an enormous pool of great sci-fi to watch! We started probably around October, 2023
I had posted this on !risa@startrek.website around that time
- Comment on What techniques do bad faith users use online to overwhelm other users in online discussion and arguments? 1 month ago:
You argue with the intent to win, not discuss. You ignore counterpoints and just restate how your belief is correct. Your point is clear, but you act like no one else’s point has any merit because their “argument immediately fails”
Allowing the current administration to take control, either by voting Trump, third party, or abstaining, allowed the acceleration of the genocide and the cruelty… as well as accelerating the suffering/cruelty of other at-risk populations
But you will pick my argument apart based on how I “argued wrong” and act as if I don’t see your point… while simultaneously ignoring mine and restating yours with more words
It’s divisive and hardlined, and you don’t allow space for discussion with understanding. Your point is clear, is more than meritful, and I agree that the democrats were active participants. My point is that allowing Trump to lead his cult from the Oval Office again, is more damaging than the pushover Democrats. And that damage will be more destructive and harder to repair. And Palestinians still suffer, with even more gusto now, and every avenue to help stop it is being rapidly cut off
Does my point have merit? Is there any middle ground that you can see? Or do you prefer a factioned populace of opinions that stirs divisiveness, and allows a unified fascism to grab more ground… rather than allowing a discussion that may not end in agreement, but may allow a sense of comradery
Am I wrong, or are you just right?

I had literally never watched it before. I’ve now gone through TOS, TNG, Voyager, Lower Decks (save the last season), and I’m over halfway through DS9. Mother fuckers assimilated me… and I’m ok with it
