Honestly I don’t think we’ll have AGI until we can fully merge meat space and cyber space. Once we can simply plug our brains into a computer and fully interact with it then we may see AGI.
Obviously we’re not where near that level of man machine integration, I doubt we’ll see even the slightest chance of it being possible for at least 10 years and the very earliest. But when we do get there it’s a distinct chance that it’s more of a Borg situation where the computer takes a parasitic role than a symbiotic role.
But by the time we are able to fully integrate computers into our brains I believe we will have trained A.I. systems enough to learn by interaction and observation. So being plugged directly into the human brain it could take prior knowledge of genome mapping and other related tasks and apply them to mapping our brains and possibly growing artificial brains to achieve self awareness and independent thought.
Or we’ll just nuke ourselves out of existence and that will be that.

GrapheneOS can sandbox apps to use the Google services only with permitted apps.
Note I don’t actually have a GrapheneOS capable phone at the moment, but I’ve been getting familiar with it in hopes of switching soon, so I’m just relaying what I’ve read.

Not entirely, my ISP is a family owned regional cable company and they took the grant and have rolled out fiber across multiple counties.
I get what you’re saying about the mega corps, yeah they just pocket a lot of the money. But the smaller ISPs are being smart and investing in their infrastructure to be able to complete.

True, but we were full time in the office before lockdown and at least half the staff is from before lockdown. Also our job listings are for hybrid positions since there is a rarely enforced office mandate.

True, and I was drawing on anecdotal evidence that I didn’t elaborate on in my original comment. While I know there are people who do not do well or enjoy work from home, I have yet to meet those people, all my coworkers and friend group are loving work from home.
So a more accurate statement would have been, based on my personal experience along with with coworkers and my friend circle this study is B.S.

I have a buddy in Japan who was a foreign exchange student here in the U.S. years ago. When he went back home I had to use Line to talk to him, I tried for years to get him to use Signal and after years of nagging he agreed to start using Discord… well at least it’s not Whatsapp…

41 year old male, no kids, no wife or girlfriend, been work from home for 5 years now. I’ve never been happier and more productive.
I get my sense of community from my friends not my coworkers. This study is B.S.

I admit I don’t watch every video, I’m subscribed but I just kind of let videos come to my home feed and watch that way. I mainly use YT as background noise while doing something else.
His reasoning makes sense, so I guess I’ll just continue to watch on YT since I have no desire to join FP. Thanks for the info!

Yeah I’m not big on LTT either, I’d like to see him on Nebula. The price is reasonable and they have some really good high quality content.

Yep, I’m the senior member of my team at work and I have to train a lot of newbies. When my supervisor tells me to start my training I message the person on teams to make sure their ready, then call them, then either share my screen or have them share their screen.
I work in international freight and every shipment is different, it would take 30 minutes to type out everything they need to know for every individual shipment. If I can show them while talking about each aspect it only takes 2 or 3 minutes per shipment.
And I’m someone who hates talking on the phone and screen sharing, but sometimes it’s just what you have to do to get the job done efficiently.

I have a visor CD holder with a few burnt copies of albums I always enjoy. Yes my car has Bluetooth and yes I use it, but sometimes it’s just easier to pop in a CD. It’s also more legal, a couple of years ago a coworker got ticketed for distracted driving because the cop saw him switching albums on his phone while driving. I doubt you’ll get pulled over for swapping CDs.

That would be a major character flaw of mine, when I fall for someone I will suppress myself because I know I have ADHD and when I get excited I can be a bit much. And let’s face it, when I first fall for someone I’m a bit excited.
I get what you’re saying but it is kind of a funny paradox, if you like being alone bring someone into that. But I know you’re saying find someone who’s ok with what I like, staying home a lot, and will understand when I randomly get up and go get on my computer because the ADHD brain just had an idea and needs to go down the rabbit hole “sorry Hun, I’ll be back in 5 to 7 hours” lol.
Thanks for the advice, it’s definitely something to think about and remember if I do find that special shut in hermit that completes me.
Well I have the dad belly… so that’s something! Also I do have an unhealthy love of dad jokes, and by unhealthy I mean one coworker has threatened me if I told another one…all in jest of course.

41 here, I was there too. It’s not that bad, just take care of yourself now. At your age I ate fast food, never exercised, and basically lived on caffeine, nicotine, and stress endorphins from working all the time. Now at my last check up, I’m overweight, my knees are shot, my back hurts all the time, and I have chronic acid reflux.
You are young enough that you can get a head start on aging, what you should do daily is exercise, eat healthy, and take some personal time/mental health time for yourself everyday to reduce stress. You don’t want to end up like me and be facing a huge uphill battle to get healthy.
