Does all British food look like literal diarrhea or only the British food that gets photographed?
I can't believe it

The cameras lie to you. It looks way less disgusting when you are about to eat it!
but yes, it doesleaky_shower_thought@feddit.nl 3 days ago
it just not feeling cute right now 🥹
Lemminary@lemmy.world 3 days ago
She never is 😅
renamon_silver@lemmy.wtf 3 days ago
It turns like that right before being photographed
possiblyaperson@sh.itjust.works 3 days ago
I can’t lie that looks genuinely amazing. Yes I am British, how can you tell?
FenderStratocaster@lemmy.world 3 days ago
As an American, I’d try it. I just don’t understand it.
Paddzr@lemmy.world 3 days ago
It’s pork, chips, gravy and peas. Had it had less gravy, it’d look less messy.
LordWiggle@lemmy.world 3 days ago
I’d say that’s a reasonable price for dog food.
elucubra@sopuli.xyz 2 days ago
As a Spaniard I was going to comment that it is kind of overpriced dog food.
LordWiggle@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Here in the Netherlands I spend 80 euros on 10kg of cat food (kibble).
Spezi@feddit.org 2 days ago
Why do you hate dogs?
selkiesidhe@lemm.ee 3 days ago
I like that we all knew exactly the country
swab148@lemm.ee 3 days ago
Luv me mushy peas, simple as
jimmux@programming.dev 3 days ago
The £ is a bit of a giveaway.
morrowind@lemmy.ml 3 days ago
I think the r/casualUK is a bigger giveaway
match@pawb.social 3 days ago
i think it would still be overpriced at 4₱ or 4¥
Bahnd@lemmy.world 3 days ago
Is this what yall think poutine looks like?!?
Canadadians, shield your eyes!!!
Ghostwurm@lemmy.ca 3 days ago
Those peas look like they came from can in a silent film and were colorized for this photo.
cattywampas@lemm.ee 3 days ago
British food gets a bad rap but I don’t really get it. Fried fish, potatoes, roasted meat, cured meat, meat pies, lots of puddings and sweets, not to mention the Indian food. What’s not to like? I’m going to the UK in October and I’m pumped for the food.
JohnnyMac@lemmy.world 3 days ago
I’ve heard it’s because they invaded every country on the planet for their spices and decided to use none of them
BudgetBandit@sh.itjust.works 3 days ago
The taste of British food and the looks of British women made the Britains the best sailors in the world!
Pumafred9@lemmy.world 3 days ago
No, you’re thinking of our grammar.
arudesalad@sh.itjust.works 3 days ago
I was going to defend us by pointing to how some of the most popular places to eat here are focused on spicy foods (curry houses) but when I thought about it more… you’re right :(
The most popular dishes there are usually the less spicy ones (but they taste really nice and would probably taste even better if they were more spicy)
Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 2 days ago
We didn’t just steal the spices, we stole cooks too. Eg, our first curry house was 1810, run by a Bengali chap. So we didn’t piss about with traditonal English dishes to get our spice fix, we just went out for a ruby instead.
swizzlestick@lemmy.zip 3 days ago
If you’re bringing cash, bring it in 20s and below. 50s aren’t used much at all as they arouse suspicion - many smaller places will flat out not accept them.
Hope you enjoy the trip :)
Aggravationstation@feddit.uk 2 days ago
I remember people used to say £50 notes were easier to forge compared to the others. Not sure if that was because of something about the note itself or because people saw them less and weren’t as used to them. Either way people became wary of accepting them. Plus it can be a pain to make change, especially when a lot of people pay with card now.
arudesalad@sh.itjust.works 3 days ago
Are you from the UK? How are you using lemmy.zip?
Also, I never pay with cash so this might be why but I have never heard about the 50p thing, Is that true or are you saying it to mess with tourists?
zipzoopaboop@lemmynsfw.com 3 days ago
Lots of it I love but there’s definitely outliers. See jellied eels
BudgetBandit@sh.itjust.works 3 days ago
I’ve eaten Surströmming and liked it, been eating it once a year ever since. I’ve eaten Beuschl, Narezushi, mite cheese, eel soup, fried insects (pupa, crickets, spiders, scorpions…), snails, brain, testicles… heck I’ve even made the fish finger pie that one British YouTube cooking show lady made (same ingredients but different preparation). You can’t scare me with eels in azpik!
Aggravationstation@feddit.uk 3 days ago
Yea, jellied eels are only really eaten on a small section of the south coast. The rest of the country wouldn’t go for that.
snugglesthefalse@sh.itjust.works 3 days ago
Best place to have fish and chips is near or on a beach in overcast weather. It’s a vibe. Pasties are definitely worth trying if you like pies and things. Greggs is worth a look. I think a lot of the bad press on our food is because so much of it doesn’t go for any kind of presentation, it just happens.
idefix@sh.itjust.works 2 days ago
Greggs is my biggest cultural shock ever. I couldn’t find anything remotely edible there but locals keep praising it.
lmuel@sopuli.xyz 3 days ago
Pretty sure £4 is below minimum wage, especially since you’re exposed to such hazardous materials?
They should be getting way more for taking care of this monstrosity.
Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 3 days ago
That looks fucking disgusting.
SouthEndSunset@lemm.ee 2 days ago
It tastes amazing. I wouldn’t have mushy peas like, but never mind.
wabafee@lemmy.world 2 days ago
I gobble the thing still though.
GissaMittJobb@lemmy.ml 3 days ago
I’d eat that, especially at that price. Not even British
AA5B@lemmy.world 3 days ago
If I were to spend £4 on a meal, I prefer an egg
Tungsten5@lemm.ee 3 days ago
Youd have to pay me to eat that shit
tauren@lemm.ee 2 days ago
How much?
Tungsten5@lemm.ee 2 days ago
For $30 id facefuck this meal into another dimension
andybytes@programming.dev 3 days ago
Poor people acting fancy calling garbage food. Yet after a joint at 3am I would fuck with it. Ever try ketchup and peas?
yournamehere@lemm.ee 2 days ago
yuck
tauren@lemm.ee 2 days ago
2 girls 1 british food
HulkSmashBurgers@reddthat.com 3 days ago
Ya got yummy sausage. Ya got gravy. Ya got yummy deep fried starchy goodness to soak up said gravy.
Why the the fuck would someone throw peas into that heavenly mix?!
Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 days ago
Imma be real, peas in gravy are delicious in the same way corn is in mashed potatoes. Adds a sort of poppable texture that just goes well with the flavor
NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 3 days ago
I’m not a fan of mushy peas. Swap it and the gravy out for some Irish-style curry sauce and now we’re talking.
synicalx@lemm.ee 3 days ago
Call me a child, but peas a gross. The rest looks fantastic though.
picklejar@lemmy.sdf.org 3 days ago
You child!
You’re welcome.
Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Let us be called children together then. Peas suck absolute ass in terms of texture and taste.
Mustakrakish@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Only good peas I’ve ever had were raw fresh off the vine. ENTIRLEY different texture and taste, juicy and crispy, vs bland and mushy. Whoever decided we need to start cooking them deserves the lack of love in their life.
2ugly2live@lemmy.world 2 days ago
I’m always so worried about food with gravy. It can either be delicious, or foul. There’s no middle.
They should allow gravy samples like they do ice cream 😤
bravesirthomas@lemm.ee 2 days ago
As a Brit… yeah, that looks disgusting.
MashedTech@lemmy.world 2 days ago
I bet it tastes great. But I do hate any other kind of soggy fries.
Wilco@lemm.ee 3 days ago
Holy shit … 4 pounds for the worst diarrhea and wet bean farts of your lifetime. What a steal.
AFC1886VCC@reddthat.com 3 days ago
When you get a takeaway in the UK and it comes in these little containers, it often looks like gross slop. I recently got a taco+cheese chip, and it looked like pure vomit.
Doesn’t put us off eating it though. Normally tastes good. Our local chippies and curry houses are supreme.
dan00@lemm.ee 2 days ago
Ehi thats a good british dish… they’re trying their best guys, come on. This is nasty but a good builder breakfast is great: eggs, bacon, hotdogs, potates, beans and tomatoes. You can work for 3 days after it 🤣 south uk fish and chips is the shit ✌️
Shezzagrad@lemmy.ml 2 days ago
Clearly you never been north. The south fish and chips are shite
kwedd@feddit.nl 3 days ago
I’d eat that, and in only a little drunk.
NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 3 days ago
Almost makes me wish I could abide mushy peas. If I did I would finally be allowed to return to the North.
JoMiran@lemmy.ml 3 days ago
I want to make a joke about “shitpost”, but my beloved chili is right there with it. I suspect this might be mouthwatering to the intended audience.
A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 2 days ago
British invaded the entire world, and shipped exotic foods and spices back home for hundreds of years…
Only to make food that looks like this.
PunkRockSportsFan@fanaticus.social 3 days ago
I thought that was blueberry vomit
SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 days ago
Beans.
Aggravationstation@feddit.uk 3 days ago
True, but those are peas in the pic friend
SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 3 days ago
Actually, they make Britain work too. Baked beans.
HikingVet@lemmy.ca 3 days ago
That looks like the supper we had when the dole ran out.
ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 3 days ago
I hope whoever put that in there wiped
Enkers@sh.itjust.works 3 days ago
Looks like the Brits were trying to follow recipe for poutine, but read peas instead of cheese.
Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world 3 days ago
I thought he bought a box of vomit for 4 bucks. What you said seems to make a lot more sense.
NoForwardslashS@sopuli.xyz 2 days ago
People in here loving poutine, but you swap cheese chunks in your gravy for a vegetable and it’s suddenly disgusting? The North American palate is weird.
FrostyTheDoo@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Cheese is better than every vegetable. Especially melted cheese. That’s certainly not an unpopular opinion or a weird take.
Peas + gravy is a weird pallet mate, there’s a reason you can only find it in 1 place.
HulkSmashBurgers@reddthat.com 3 days ago
Fuck yeah poutine.
