The prosecution against Horcasitas was only seeking nine years for the killing. The maximum was 10 and a half years. Stacey had asked the judge for the full sentence during her own impact statement. The judge granted her request, something Stacey credits—in part—to the AI video.

I had this conversation with some non-tech savvy relatives a while ago. They were under the impression that just by virtue of something being posted online it will remain there forever. Had to explain its more like once you post something online you lose control of it. So it could disappear completely or someone could download/ screenshot it and you then have no way to stop it proliferating so you should act like everything you post will remain online forever.

My country banned smoking in all public indoor spaces almost 20 years ago. As a smoker at the time I thought it was ridiculous, felt that my rights were being violated and thought it would never last. The quality of life improvement it made is massive. Today I vape rather than smoke but wouldn’t dream of doing either indoors and think it was 100% the right move. Not quite the same thing but if you’ve never lived in a world that doesn’t work a certain way you sometimes can’t imagine that the alternative would be a benefit.
