Soon we’ll have generative AI that extrapolates the rest of the meeting, and that skip key will work. Very poorly, but someone will do it.
Then everyone will log in to meetings, say hi, skip to the end, ask for a generated summary, log out. And nothing of value will be lost.

The broccoli and broccolini in my garden have grown so big it’s hard to keep up. This means I’ll sometimes eat bits that have begun flowering. I haven’t noticed much difference in the taste.

Beat me to it. In the same spirit of collective animal nouns, then:

It was a very basic story with a self-insert character, probably intended for a younger audience. That worked very well for me at the time. I think it was my first RPG so I really enjoyed getting lost in those environments.

I always wondered why Secret of Mana gets the attention, and Evermore is largely forgotten. It has a doggy companion!

Now that you mention it, the projection is unusual. Is this the map they use in Texas to make it look bigger?
- Comment on ChatGPT dissidents, the students who refuse to use AI: ‘I couldn’t remember the last time I had written something by myself’ 3 weeks ago:
My work right now is evaluating AI models, but outside work I don’t use them at all. I’m so conditioned to finding flaws that my trust level is rock bottom.
I’m also very aware of how easy it is to mentally disengage. When everything appears correct at a glance, your mind has no reason to question it.
- Comment on RPGs that are optionally pacifist? 4 weeks ago:
Hey, in a setting like Night City, beating people unconscious to spare their life practically makes you a saint.
If you really want to ease your conscience, I don’t think they ever explain how non-lethal weapon mods work. You can head-cannon that your assault rifle is loaded with nanites that safely shut down enemy cyberware if you want.
- Comment on RPGs that are optionally pacifist? 4 weeks ago:
I believe it’s possible in Cyberpunk 2077. Blunt weapons are non-fatal, other weapons can be modified to be non-fatal, stealth is usually an option, and you can even remotely disable enemies if your hacking skill is high enough.
There are sections you can’t do alone, so you might need to be proactive about neutralising enemies before your companion does.

When I worked at petrol stations, two of the top dangers I had to watch out for were:
- Using plastic containers (some plastics will dissolve in contact with fuel).
- Filling containers in the boot (fumes accumulate in depressions).
This image has me reflexively looking for a big red Stop Pumps button.

But what if the kids who use jetpacks without helmets go on to cause more net harm? You know they would.
I was actually trying to improve the world by introducing some Darwinian efficiency. Honest.

Jetpacks for everyone. Cheers.

Front gate is visible from here
I think they added even more since the street view was captured. You have to go down the road a bit to see the doors.
- Comment on Happy noises* 5 weeks ago:
There’s a house near me that used dozens of doors to construct the perimeter fence. The sign on the front gate says “Mordor”. Still gets a smile from me every time I pass it.

My god, that’s a lot to process. A couple that stand out:
Comments proposing to use github as the database backup. This is Keyword Architecture, and these people deserve everything they get.
The Replit model can also send out communications? It’s just a matter of time before some senior exec dies on the job but nobody notices because their personal LLM keeps emailing reports that nobody reads.

Car theft is more likely to be acted on than any other kind of theft, in my experience, but it still has to be convenient for them.
One time my car was stolen, I knew it had only just happened so they were certainly still driving it near my home, and the police just said sorry, we’ll let you know if it turns up somewhere. I called back a few minutes later when I remembered that it’s on a car share program so I can track the location via GPS - that got them interested, and I stayed on the phone giving updates while it took them only 20 minutes to make an arrest.
The same car got stolen a couple of years later, when I wasn’t able to track it live. I located it myself, and they just turned up to do a few minutes of forensics then left.
They’re definitely understaffed. When I went to the station to do a report there was only one constable in the building, even though it was a time of day/week when they’re extra busy.

SA2 just wasn’t as satisfying for me. There was too much rail grinding, which isn’t much fun when overused, because you’re barely controlling anything.
