I only looked at this for ten seconds and I forgot how the real map looks.

The malignant Dak-ancer has spread to your Cancerlina. The illness stems from exposure to fascist gerrymandering. It’s a fatal prognosis.

I… I can’t even figure what’s wrong with it even though I know it’s so very, very wrong. My brain hurts.
stebo02@sopuli.xyz 10 months ago
As someone from Europe it looks fine to me.
NickwithaC@lemmy.world 10 months ago
I genuinely didn’t get the joke until I read the hover text and even then I just assumed he put extra lines in to troll the Americans.
themeatbridge@lemmy.world 10 months ago
That’s an awful lot of Dakotas.
Sconrad122@lemmy.world 10 months ago
And no Howoming, Whatoming, Wheroming, or Whooming, missed opportunities.
Balinares@pawb.social 10 months ago
What really gets me is how you swapped Alabama and Mississippi just for kicks.
jemikwa@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 months ago
Ohno
Ultragramps@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 months ago
That’s my favorite. Plus, they way it can be read as “Ohenno” or Oh hell no. Columbia on the West Coast is also a neat idea, considering that Columbia was the manufactured goddess designed to be an avatar for American greatness, before we got the Statue of Liberty. Columbia still has a big statue on top of the Capitol building in DC that never gets mentioned.

This magazine has been cracking me up for weeks now. Had to share:

Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn’t work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: !aneurysmposting@sopuli.xyz
HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 10 months ago
It’s a Typo: His name is Ted and he’s into GILFs.
21Cabbage@lemmynsfw.com 10 months ago
It took me way too long to realize he added States not just mislabeled them.
makyo@lemmy.world 10 months ago
Me too, it’s better this way than the original
son_named_bort@lemmy.world 10 months ago
This map freaks me out and I don’t know why.
EvilEyedPanda@lemmy.world 10 months ago
Because everything you know is wrong, nothing is real, nothing matters, have a panic attack, you deserve it!

ok but where’s MASHINGTON
admin@sh.itjust.works 10 months ago
West of Wontanna
Agent641@lemmy.world 10 months ago
Fun fact, there are no US states that start with A.
TheMagicalTimonini@lemmy.world 10 months ago
The closest is Arkansas which starts with an “A”. Which is pronounced similar to an “A”.
starman2112@lemmy.world 10 months ago
Some ChatGPT fun facts
palordrolap@kbin.social 10 months ago
Likewise there are no states with a B in the name.
Ookami38@sh.itjust.works 10 months ago
Isn’t Kentucky the only one that starts with a K?
SuzyQ@sh.itjust.works 10 months ago
I have an inkling that the two Arkansas are pronounced differently. “Are-Kansas” and “Are-Can-Saw”.
abouttocomealive@lemmy.world 10 months ago
One is Akansas
SuzyQ@sh.itjust.works 10 months ago
I see that now. I did not see it then.
Aatube@kbin.social 10 months ago
Are-ken-saw, A-kan-saw and a Kan-sahs

NeoNachtwaechter@lemmy.world 10 months ago
But where is Are-Cannot-Saw?
badcommandorfilename@lemmy.world 10 months ago
Next to Coloradon’t
Nougat@kbin.social 10 months ago
That's because Arkansas (ARE-can-saw) retained the native language pronounciation, while Kansas (CAN-zuhs) was Anglicanized.
misophist@lemmy.world 10 months ago
Today I learned the native language was French!
peopleproblems@lemmy.world 10 months ago
Ok, I don’t get it.
runner_g@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 months ago
A recent XKCD was just the blank map with ~64 “states” and the direction to try and name them all.
jarvis2323@lemmy.world 10 months ago

I see Kansas, but where’s Kan’tsas?
bratosch@lemm.ee 10 months ago
Kansas, Akansas, Arkansas was clever my guy. How would you pronounce Akansas tho? A-kansahh? Akansahh? A-Kansas? Akansas? Ahkansas? Ah-kansahh?
chatokun@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 months ago
AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 10 months ago
Arkansas, just to piss off the French

Arkansas and yourkansas

Kolanaki@yiffit.net 10 months ago
How do you want them labeled? They already have the names.
ThatOneKirbyMain2568@kbin.social 10 months ago
The names are an edit from the original xkcd comic, where the states are blank.
Pickle_Jr@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 months ago
I did a couple of cartography classes in college and I can say this is 100% correct.
charonn0@startrek.website 10 months ago
It just occurred to me that there are no states named East Statename.
morphballganon@lemmy.world 10 months ago
English settlers arrived in the east. So wherever they were when they named an area, that was the original, and as they spread west, north or south, they had to add those directions to keep them distinct.
agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 10 months ago
Serious answer: we started at the eastern seaboard and expanded west. “East Statename” implies eastern expansion.
Nougat@kbin.social 10 months ago
That's because the expansion of the US across the continent was westward.
charonn0@startrek.website 10 months ago
I know. It just seemed funny that the other three directions are represented.
If/when Puerto Rico becomes the 51st state, it should take the name East Puerto Rico, just to be fair.
bratosch@lemm.ee 10 months ago
Are there any ‘West _____’ states? I know there are north and south

Chetzemoka@startrek.website 10 months ago
Why are there so many Mexicos?? The Mexicos are multiplying, you guys. We’re about to be overrun.
fireweed@lemmy.world 10 months ago
Columbia should be Jefferson. Alternatively Columbia could be Oregon, then Oregon becomes Columbia.
rhythmisaprancer@kbin.social 10 months ago
I had a college professor who absolutely would have handed something like this out as a pop quiz.
