  For years I drove an extended fifteen passenger van countless miles across the US with a completely obscured rear window. If you know how to use your side mirrors and pay attention to traffic you will know what’s behind you. How do you think truckers do it?

  “cooking” in the context of doing something well has been around for a long time. Think, “now you’re cooking!” Or the less common “now you’re cooking with gas!”

  I think it’s just in more frequent use currently. It will be interesting to see if people stop using it after it goes out of fashion with the youth.

  Before she was famous Lady Gaga used to hang out at a tiny bar in lower Manhattan. She go-go danced sometimes and was part of the scene of regulars there.

  I started working there years later after she had become a superstar and a lot of those regulars still hung out there. She was still tight with them and even in a relationship with my boss. She didn’t come around much though and we had to keep things on the DL.

  One night she gave an unadvertised performance in the back room with a jazz combo of some of the regulars backing her. A secret show: If you knew, you knew.

  No rich person hired her. She just wanted to do something fun with her friends.

  I would argue that if you can’t afford to tip then you can’t afford the thing you’re buying. It’s an implied part of the price. Labor has to get paid one way or the other

  Let it be said that I think this only applies to traditionally tipped positions. The system is already in place. I don’t think we need to keep turning wage positions into tipped positions as seems to be the trend.
