- Comment on The plastic cylinder in my soap dispenser is loose and the soap no longer pumps. What's the best way to fix this? Super glue didn't hold. 15 hours ago:
This is the best plastic epoxy I have found. JB Weld plastic weld. There are others if you can’t get it.
So take it apart. Clean it especially if there is any soap. Let it dry. After it is dry it might not hurt to do a light clean with rubbing alcohol. Then epoxy it back together, per the epoxy instructions. This type of epoxy is very noxious. Do it outside and leave the top outside for a few hours. It is also best to not touch it, use a stick.

- Comment on Tesla must face fraud suit for claiming its cars could fully drive themselves 1 day ago:
Totally, though the hyperbole defense is real and much easier to argue. They will just say that Musk is part hype man for Tesla. Rhetorical hyperbole has been confirmed by the supreme Court to be a first amendment protected activity. You may feel this is dumb, but was also how John Oliver was able to repeatedly tell Bob Murray to eat shit.
- Comment on Tesla must face fraud suit for claiming its cars could fully drive themselves 1 day ago:
I bet if this goes to trial his lawyers are just going to argue that no reasonable person would believe these claims. That is just hyperbole there for it is not fraud.

Apparently he has been obsessed with the letter since before the PayPal days. He owned X.com before joining PayPal. It was even named X for a little bit. Before it went public the name was changed to PayPal. Because of course X is a terrible name for brand recognition and marketing. I think part of this just fuck you to all the guys who started PayPal
Oh and remember the only real thing Musk brought to PayPal. Was his daddy’s money.

- Comment on [Serious] Why do so many people seem to hate veganism? 1 week ago:
Yeah there are other reasons but you know I didn’t really wanted to share them before. And now with your reaction I definitely don’t want to share them. Also you do know your maintenance diet is just the calories you need for your basic metabolic needs. It doesn’t take into account any calories needed to gain weight (something I have been trying to do all my life) or any activity. I remember days where I could have multiple 1200 to 1500 calories meals and still have snacks in between because I would get hungry between meals.
You call bs on me without having context. Yeah I didn’t share context for reasons. Maybe you shouldn’t attack someone when they say they have been attacked in the exact same way and found it hurtful.

Yeah they are. That is why I used Real GDP Growth. It is still not a great metric but it is a little better than GDP and GDP Growth.
- Comment on Choose your difficulty 1 week ago:
Here is the wiki article on Real GDP feel free. en.m.wikipedia.org/…/Real_gross_domestic_product The take a way is you will see most of South America and parts of Africa are on par with the USA.
Weirdly enough it is very hard to get corrupt politicians, civil servants, etc to check the yes box for the question are you corrupt. So corruption perception is used, which is actually pretty accurate. The local population is pretty good at noticing when they’re being asked to pay a bribe or seeing that nepotism is present in government.
If you were to look at the ranked list you would find that Uruguay, Barbados, Bhutan, and Botswana. Are all ahead of Greece, Montenegro, Romanian, Bulgaria, and Hungry.
As for the happiness index did you actually scroll down to the full list? Yes most of the country you would expect to be high on the list. There are plenty of outliers, Costa Rica is higher than the USA; Uruguay is higher than France; El Salvador is higher than Italy, Malta, Spain, Estonia, and Poland; Honduras and China are higher than Croatia, Greece, and Bosnia and Hertzegovina. I am sure there are more but I hope you get how it does not support the joke.
Is eurocentric and a little racist because it clearly states that the only countries worth living in are European or North America (except Mexico which apparently doesn’t exist). This meme is basically saying living in Europe or the United States is the best and everywhere else is a shit hole country. Yet looking at the actual data we can see that is not true.

Haven’t you heard? Mexico doesn’t exist it is just drawn on the map to make people think that Canada and The United States are to the rest of the American Continent. Everyone who says they are from Mexico are just paid actors. /s
Also they left out New Zealand, which will not come as a surprise for New Zealanders. They will probably be happy that they are even on the map.

I have been extremely underweight my whole life. As a teen I was 30 to 40 lbs underweight.

First off ground beef, a steak, a whole chicken is not going to have soy filler.
Second most soy found in the process foods is soy lecithin. I don’t know why but I am not allergic to that.
I am very aware of how much soy is used as a filler because I have to avoid it.
- Comment on [Serious] Why do so many people seem to hate veganism? 1 week ago:
I don’t hate vegans. I even dated one for a while. She would eat veggies, I would eat meat. It worked because neither of us were dismissive of the others choice.
I do hate being preached to. I think most people do. Many of my encounters with vegans were ones where they were very hostile to me. For just not being vegan. I wasn’t going around telling them veganism was bad or that they were a terrible person for being vegan. I have been told that by vegans. That I am a bad person for eating meat.
I have to eat meat I have always had a high metabolism. At various times in my life my maintenance diet had to be at least 3,000 calories. Plus of course any additional food needed for non maintenance activities. Additionally I’m allergic to soy. This means that it would be nearly impossible for me to have gotten enough food without eating meat. I am pretty certain that if I had not eaten meat and animal fat. I would have died as a child, or at best had serious issues with nutrition. I was well fed as a child. I could eat as much as I wanted, still many of my memories of childhood were ones of hunger.
I even explained this to someone once and they responded by saying “well you didn’t die” and then heavily implied they wish I did. As if me not dying made my point invalid.
This is why I am skeptical of vegans and vegan ideology. It is often toxic, and actively tries to hurt and shame people. Even people like me who are effectively choiceless in regards to eating meat.
Often even non-militant vegans will allow this behavior. I know how frustrating it can be to be told you need to police your own community. Though that doesn’t mean it’s okay to allow bad behavior amongst your peers.

Try Startpage. I have just started using it so I can’t tell you how it compares. I also need to look up who owns it. But I have been told it has the same privacy qualities of DDG.

It has a partnership with bing. So sadly now it is mostly a bing clone. I have been using DDG for a decade. I noticed a distinct drop in search quality after the bing partnership.

- Comment on How do passkeys work across devices? 1 week ago:
Read your other comment and I don’t disagree. There are two things that I feel could though have a hiccup. First there is a real possibility that you will not be able to lock your phones. I have never set up face ID on any android I have had, but I don’t see any reference to an auto time out on Android on my phone or any of the setup walkthroughs online. Every manufacturer uses a slightly different build of android so it is hard to say that not Androids has it.
Second it you have a ten digit password as a backup but use face id often the you could forget it. Which would lead many people to use an easy to guess password. Defeating much of the security with a long password has.
- Comment on How do passkeys work across devices? 1 week ago:
Sounds much safer than biometrics.
- Comment on How do passkeys work across devices? 1 week ago:
I would really recommend never using bio metrics on your phone regardless of the context. It is easier to fake that you would want it to be. Also you are legally allowed to not tell the law your password. But they can take your biometrics by force.
- Comment on A YouTuber let the Cybertruck close on his finger to test the new sensor update. It didn't go well. 1 week ago:
Not say I agree but here is the logic. Self closing trunks are pretty common on many vehicles. A problem that is/was (I think a lot of manufacturers have mostly fix it) happen was the trunk lid would detect the resistance from a grocery bag or something. You know the stuff that in the past you could have just shut the lid with a little force. When this resistance was felt the lid would open back up. A good thing for safety but it can lead to the trunk never closing.
I bet when Tesla wrote the code they forgot to give it a maximum pressure it could close with regardless of how many times it closed. Or they set the maximum pressure way too hard.
- Comment on Google Search is getting even worse for independent sites 1 week ago:
Yeah I have been using DuckDuckGo for about a decade. I noticed a drop in quality as soon as the Microsoft Bing partnership. Now it is mostly just a Bing clone. Which is really sad. They were really good and really cared about consumers privacy. I have been moving over to Startpage but have yet to do a full read up on its policies and do a full test of the quality of the search results. Though so far I am quietly optimistic.

I haven’t really started on top of the open movement. Other than to bitch about John Deere. I love their tractors, fucking hate their proprietary software and their nefarious data collection.
Well that is not entirely true. The bitching about JD is true, but I have tried to stay informed on right to repair. But I don’t seek out an open solution to things I don’t need. I am all for GNU/GPL and have been using Linux for 20ish year.
I assume a lot of this open IOT is Arduino based everything I have read about Arduino I like, I just can be bothered to learn how to use and program it.
I have learned that I prefer not have to much tech, I have only had a smartphone for 4 years. I got one mostly because it became near impossible to navigate life with out one. Is seem like everyone wants to do things though apps now.
- Comment on After 16 years, Ecobee is shutting down support for the original smart thermostat 2 weeks ago:
Yeah I know that is a thing I might even be able to figure it out, but I am a bit of Luddite. By choice though, I have an okay understanding of tech but I don’t see the advantage in many cases. I much prefer the reliability and simplicity of legacy tech. Also I am much more likely to be able to fix it myself if needed.
Before sears took a shit, I had to fix my mom’s range. It was built some time in the 90s. The manual has a trouble shooting guide. I was able to call the sears help line and buy just the part I need and get it mailed to me. Everything was designed to be fixed and there was legacy company support.
Even with an IOT LAN. Repair of the hardware and often the firmware is not possible. You just have to buy a whole new expensive smart thing. I don’t like that.
