I want to do a meme of Bugs Bunny happily walking away, while Elmer’s face is blown up and blackened from his shotgun backfiring, and label them Bad Bunny and MAGA, but I don’t know how, so please enjoy this description instead.
The radical woke subliminal message in Bad Bunny's halftime performance

Have you tried using an AI service that will take the description you provided and render it as a creepy, completely humourless, fight-or-flight response inducing hallucination at the cost of merely boiling off a small lake?
BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 hours ago
The only time I tried AI, I attempted make it create a picture that combined Trump, Hitler, and a pig, into my favorite Trump nickname HitlerPig, but it wouldn’t cooperate.

That, and “Together we are America”. It was written on the football but he only flashed the writing very briefly.

Just want to say that halftime show was 🔥🔥🔥. I don’t listen to bad bunny normally, but I am now.
DaMummy@hilariouschaos.com 3 hours ago
Why can’t they have a real American artist performing at the Superbowl like Immortal Technique?
HeyJoe@lemmy.world 13 hours ago
I dont either, and only heard some of his stuff before. I also am never a huge fan of most of the half time shows, but this one seemed to work well and was unique. I especially liked the end where he celebrates all countries, the dig without being a dig.
ickplant@lemmy.world 13 hours ago
Fuck yes, same.
YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 10 hours ago
I heard him for the first time yesterday, just to know what I was in for. Dude is incredibly popular on YouTube! First video had a billion views!
And the spectacle of it all! Outside of last year, this was one of the most entertaining halftime shows I can remember.
danc4498@lemmy.world 6 hours ago
I listened to him after the Grammys. Found I loved many of his songs.
Prince’s halftime show will always be the greatest ever. But this was close.
Lemming6969@lemmy.world 11 hours ago
That was some of the worst sound I’ve ever heard in a musical number, basically anywhere.
jacksilver@lemmy.world 1 hour ago
Clearly we’re in the minority, but I did not think it sounded good at all. It’s a hard event (even acoustically), and he clearly was singing live, but it felt like he was struggling to keep up with the beat. Although I’m also very hit or miss with rap, so I’m also probably biased.
The message and showmanship was good and regardless of how it sounded, I think people will talk about this performance for a long time.

You must not have seen The Weeknd’s halftime show a couple years ago
danc4498@lemmy.world 4 hours ago
I remember Kendrick Lamar’s sound was pretty bad. But that was the audio coming through the tv. When they released the video on YouTube, it sounded much better.
I honestly didn’t think this had bad sound, though.

Most sports arenas have shit acoustics, so it makes sense that the sound quality is bad

You are objectively correct, all the downvoters just feel like anything other than praise is an attack on their identity.

I tried googling his “Ocasio 64” jersey, and all I came up with was articles about the time AOC streamed a Donkey Kong 64 marathon.
TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 13 hours ago
a Donkey Kong 64 marathon.
go on…
starik@lemmy.zip 13 hours ago
Well, you see…
DK, Donkey Kong. He’s the leader of the bunch, you know him well. He’s finally back to kick some tail. His coconut gun can fire in spurts. If he shoots ya, it’s gonna hurt! He’s bigger, faster, and stronger, too. He’s the first member of the DK crew.
SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml 3 hours ago
Aoc didn’t do the DK64 stream, someone else did she just showed up at one point
JoMiran@lemmy.ml 13 hours ago
Ocasio is Bad Bunny’s last name. 64 might be the year of his dad’s birth, but that’s a guess.

I heard it was in reference to the Puerto Rican governments initial death toll caused by Hurricane Maria (en.wikipedia.org/…/Hurricane_Maria_death_toll_con…), which was…a very low number.

What was that “story” where Chapter 1: Defeating evil with the power of love. Chapter 2: Defeating evil with the power of incredible violence?
I’m already at chapter 2.
Railcar8095@lemmy.world 8 hours ago
I remember a movie where there was a guru like that, who convinced everybody on his (the citizens of the protagonist country/village) to not fight, because “love is the most powerful weapon”. The protagonists were like “fuck that, you’re getting everybody killed”
So when the bad guys army arrived, they were meet with flowers and people just being happy and saying no need to flee or fight. The soldiers were too weird out to attack, so they just stood there, some joined the celebrations.
The lead bad guy got angry and tried to stab the protagonist, but was killed before by a dagger thrown by the pacifist guru. Everybody just looked at then and said “love is the most powerful weapon… But it’s not always the fastest”
I have no idea what this movie was, I remember it loked like shit, but that’s scene has been living rent free on my mind forever

If you can’t talk to them, beat them.
BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 hours ago
“Speak softly but carry a big stick,” implies that you have to be ready to deploy that Big Stick, and the other side has to believe it.
Unfortunately, the MAGA comedy act of Schmuck & Jeffries has been using the Big Stick to roast marshmallows and weenies, instead of waving it around, and everyone has forgotten about it. It’s time to take away the Big Stick, beat Schmuck & Jeffries with it for a while, then use it on MAGA, real hard.

Yes if people mean both contents they say The Americas.
YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 10 hours ago
Central maybe, but things are pretty rough in South America except for a handful of the bigger players like Brasil and Columbia.
Skullgrid@lemmy.world 13 hours ago
Is it trying to get people from the Caribbean to play any version of football? Because I think they prefer bat and ball sports[1], and to be honest, I’m surprised Bad Bunny actually cares. I guess he’s in it for the prestige and fame? Did he already do something for the world series?
[1] : For some reason, Hispanic Caribbean countries like Baseball, while Anglophone Caribbean countries love cricket. I don’t know or understand why they prefer bat and ball sports this consistently. Like you’d think it would be a mixture, and some football or they’d all like baseball or cricket, but it’s divided among linguistic lines.
jacksilver@lemmy.world 1 hour ago
Its both a huge event and platform so it makes sense why artists would want to perform at the superbowl.
As for why he was picked, I think I’ve read some reports that the NFL is really trying to grow the sport in South America. Between the fact that they’ve saturated the US market and that every attempt to expand in Europe has been rough, I think they realize they don’t have many other choices.
Skullgrid@lemmy.world 18 minutes ago

US soft power is going to have a very hard time spreading any further than it has in the future.
garbagebagel@lemmy.world 12 hours ago
What? It had nothing to do with sports. Like yeah, its a Superbowl thing but the halftime show has long past been more of a cultural thing than a sports thing. People that perform at it likely don’t give a shit about the sport either way, and neither do many of the people that watch specifically (or only) the Super bowl.
The message was clear and it was aimed at every single person watching American or not, sports fan or not.
pet1t@lemmy.world 9 hours ago
Imagine having the final of your favourite sport turn into an entertainment/cultural show …
Other than that, perfect platform to spread this message so yea
Skullgrid@lemmy.world 12 hours ago
It is a badly executed joke about which sport is popular for which cultural group and the abundance of Caribbean flags in the photo

MagicPterodactyl@lemmy.ml 3 hours ago
He has some really great songs. Not everything that’s popular is bad.
BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 hours ago
I dig the dude and his message, but NONE of that music resonated with me, and I am a hard-core, lifelong musician with a degree in music history. Other than it having a steady beat, it barely registered as music to me at all.
But I also recognize that not everything in America has to be approved by me. There were two targets for this show - Hispanics/Latinx, and MAGAs. I’m neither, so I’m just an observer, and I highly approve of any event where MAGA gets poked in the eye.
SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 5 hours ago
The guy seems alright though even if his music is not my jam.
