Hey, that’s not entirely true! Our place brought them in because it was also a cheap solution! Honestly, it has done fine for our storage solution, which is mostly backups related. Then again, we came from Baracuda, which was super expensive, super locked down, and did break a lot.
- Comment on LG TVs’ integrated ads get more personal with tech that analyzes viewer emotions 6 days ago:
I will say I had 1 time i needed it. It was my Samsung Odessey monitor. It supports freesync but I noticed when it was on there would be a slight flicker. Dealt with it for probably 2 years before looking into it. Low and behold online comments all said firmware fixed it. It worked, fixed it and now it’s been fantastic ever since. One of the only times an update on a screen did something amazing. It’s not the norm but the excception.
- Comment on LG TVs’ integrated ads get more personal with tech that analyzes viewer emotions 1 week ago:
So we pay them to do this to us? I stopped putting tv’s on the internet once I realized it offered me nothing useful. Firmware is about it and if that’s the case I’ll either usb it or put it on the internet for 5 min to do the update. Even then Samsung sucks so much with firmware the release notes for every single update are “bug fixes and improvements”… thanks Samsung.
If I am forced to put it online or it comes up with a way to phone home on its own, I am done buying those kinds of tv’s, and I’m sure some other brand will offer one that doesn’t, even if it isn’t the best one to buy.

From what I’ve seen lately, those are not the people it seems to be helping.
I 100% agree that pardoning has its place, but it’s clearly turned into another instance of abuse.

Thanks for the share. I laughed and agreed with most talking points. I do wish it was shorter, 20 minutes where a lot of the topics are repeated throughout definitely could have been edited down a bit. The funniest part to me is that this may cost US folks $600 when the $450 price was already on the idk if i can justify buying this side.
- Comment on Xbox Games Showcase Followed by The Outer Worlds 2 Direct Airs June 8 2 weeks ago:
I loved the Outer Worlds! Can’t believe it’s been out for that long already. I am excited to see how they expand on the first. My only complaint about the first was it’s size. This one will probably be fully fleshed out more seeing how popular the first was.
- Comment on Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con may have the same stick drift problem as original Switch 2 weeks ago:
I used it a few years ago, and it was fine and i didnt have to pay anything. I wish Sony offered this because I’m on my 4th ps5 controller…
If it’s not fixed in the new one, they can screw off… it’s bad enough they got away with it, but to totally redesign everything and still say yes we’ll keep the defective parts going forward is a big no from me.

Idk why everyone is so skeptical. As someone who works in the field where backups are day of life, this is cool shit. So it seems like they got the 2 copies, one that’s readily available in case it’s ever needed immediately and 1 in case that fails or worse. I wonder if the SSD array is just a RAID setup or duplicated as well. I also think for the severity of what they are trying to accomplish here they should have a 3rd location that syncs with the SSD array because sometimes you just never know and I wonder how they test the tape backups to make sure it works and continues to work without issues.

Dammm, the best part is everyone speculated that the price it’s at now was to predict and get ahead of tarrif pricing by already setting it higher. The fact that it’s not is scary.

- Comment on YSK that if you lose your Social Security Card (USA) more than 10 times, the Social Security Administration will have to, by law, refuse to issue anymore replacement cards, for the rest of your life. 4 weeks ago:
I actually keep them (minus appliance stuff because I just find them online and download the pdf and never found them that important) in a fireproof safe. Honestly, it’s not a lot of stuff, and so the safe is really small. It didn’t cost much at all but you do have to replace it like every 10ish years since fireproof doesn’t last forever.
- Comment on Qobuz reveals how much it really pays per stream, and I want to see more of this transparency to help us spend money more ethically 4 weeks ago:
Oh boy, I have wanted to purchase Roon server for probably 10 years now but haven’t pulled the trigger. I haven’t really looked at it in a while either. I now wonder how much it’s changed since. Wow, it’s $829 for a lifetime now! I wanna say it was like $400 when I first wanted it. I knew i should have!
I used to use Subsonic, then it was abandoned and felt like I needed something better. I ended up on a fork of it called Navidrome which is pretty impressive and are doing some great work improving things lately like adding in more tags to the original subsonic API to do more. The best app Symfonium also came out only a few years ago and is incredible now. It offers soooo much it’s kind of crazy. It also opted to make use of the new API, which allows more as well. One day I’ll move to Roon.

- Comment on Owing your home today is nearly impossible, but even if you did the ever increasing property taxes will bury you 1 month ago:
Yeah, that makes much more sense. I absolutely agree, sadly most places draw the line on ever allowing that to happen. Although I do remember reading that some states have minimum wage tied to it which was pretty shocking, despite making perfect sense.
- Comment on Owing your home today is nearly impossible, but even if you did the ever increasing property taxes will bury you 1 month ago:
I see both arguments for this as valid. I get that you wanna stay and live your entire life in the place you owned forever. The reality is taxes are needed and will increase forever, which are important to keeping your state functioning (as long as the people in charge are doing a good job and actually using the funds wisely). I wonder what state they are from because I know property tax can be wildly different depending upon that. I’m sure they don’t want to, but there are like 6 states that currently offer no property tax to seniors over 65 and 10 that offer exemptions based on income and age. At the same time it is good to see them complain because maybe they can try to sway the state to also offer the no property tax benefit to seniors as well. Still if he is hurting that much, then it’s probably easier to sell the place and move to another place that will allow him to be better off with less worrying. It’s a valid option even if he doesn’t agree with it.
- Comment on YouTube launches a $7.99 per month, ad-free Premium Lite subscription 1 month ago:
Considering i get premium Peacock for like $6 a month after discounts I agree. I get the live channel plus a ton of other stuff and other pre-made channels to watch. Some sports as well plus the Olympics when they are relevant. Asking $8 just to remove some ads sounds awful. I will stick to using Firefox on mobile and pc with ublock origin which removes all ads.

- Comment on YouTube is stepping up its efforts to sell you other streaming services 1 month ago:
I’m good. I spend less than $20 a month on 3 services, and it’s all I need. Youtube is not even one of them. Dropped the app, use it directly in Firefox on my phone with ublock origin, and I get no ads which would be the only benefit I would want it for. I still source all my music and keep locally and setup my own music server which is accessible anywhere. Same goes for TV and shows, not the streaming sites but an actual local library. It’s been working for about 10 years now so I have no reason to change.

- Comment on Microsoft Outlook servers down, reports say 1 month ago:
Saw this in our all IT Teams chat today with people complaining. I just laughed and said oh well that’s what you get when you moved from on prem to cloud. At least it was a Saturday, although I think that was by design since it appeared to be due to a change they implemented and reversed so that makes sense.
We recently had a huge outage almost a month ago with RingCentral as well. Our entire call center was down for almost 8 hours due to that crazy outage. I have been with this company 19 years and it was Avaya on prem and never had a single outage, last year we moved to RingCentral and boom less than a year later that happened. The funny thing is they also said they never had that happen that bad ever before either. Thankfully our VP has been around the block and knew to tell the company when we shifted to cloud that we needed to lower our expectations from what we previously had because there’s no way you will have 100% uptime with a cloud solution. 8 hours was never expected, though, lol.
