I wonder how long until they ban porn. That’ll kill it dead for sure.

The gloomy sentiment around Reddit Inc. has failed to dissipate after its shares fell 50% from a February high, with volatile technology stocks under pressure.

Idk, I doubt the advertising partners really have a problem with reddit porn. This dip is likely a reflection of the article linking reddit moderation policies to Elon Musk (absolutely hilarious that he’s so toxic to stocks he’s killing other people’s companies now). I don’t think this is even a reflection of a drop in users yet,
People left Reddit during the election. The new left pushing the Luigi good narrative just got spanked and migrated here, and the others that took issue with the retarded policies of the Dems and Republicans were also banned. Basically Reddit pissed off everyone regardless of where they were on the political spectrum. They’re fucked.
literally one of the 2 reasons I haven’t quit reddit completely (the other being I’m slowly deleting all my comments)
You can just use a bot/service to do that. It’ll even edit them before deleting them, so if it’s ever recovered it’ll just look like some gibberish random words
you can use powersuite delete i believe, and there are extensions, but much slower than the github one.
Tbh I think X has the market corned there.
I mean why buy shares of reddit? What is it doing? It’s alienating users.
Literally every single change reddit has done in the past few years has angered the user base, and the bot accounts increase day by day. Go to any niche subreddit, like one for a movie series, show, video game, etc. You will see a ton of “what’s your opinion of X or Y?” And it’s always such a weird choice of words, and it’s clearly just a bot farming engagement to inflate numbers to shareholders.
I still use reddit, but I never post or comment. I strictly do that on one of my Lemmy accounts. And every few months, something will happen to make the experience worse. Like now, the frontpage “hot” sorting is broken. Just a bunch of zero up vote posts on weird subreddits I forgot I was subscribed to. Now I can’t really get the news like I used to on reddit. It’s broken, and there is tall that it’s a result of Elon meeting with spez to talk about moderating the surge of Elon/Teslur hate.
Fuck reddit, more niche communities need to come over here, because I’m so tired of having to go through reddit to fine things I’m interested in.
It was going downhill since they got rid of the woman who was running AMA
Yeah remember that being an inflection point where I stopped being excited about updates and started dreading them.
Yeah why is the question never “how can we make peoples lives better?” its always “?whats the profit margin”
Fuck Reddit.
That’s what you get for supporting fascism. Fuck you spez.
Truly hope that worthless fuck meets his own Luigi
You have been banned from Lemmy for inciting violence
I mean. Elon Musk is exerting control of the platform too. Do you really want THAT shit in your cereal?
Good. As shitty as they’ve been and as hostile as they’ve become to their own users, I’d live little more than watching the entire damned things crash and burn. More (but still not very) likely though is them desperately selling off before it completely self destructs. Of course if they do sell it, whoever they sell to will likely either make things worse or just shutter it. Most likely they’ll stay the course and continue hemorrhaging usefulness and thus popularity.
Any way you read the cards Reddit is in a tailspin that they seem unwilling to do what is necessary to pull out of. Which is to say, they’re too stubbornly idiotic to reverse their stupid, stupid changes and make a more open, user friendly, and community friendly platform. And I don’t see Spez being that smart.
All the people that ruined the site will get a nice golden parachute. The C suite doesn’t give a shit what the company actually does. They are there to make sure the important investors get a return on investment and that is it.
Oh the executives will be fine. I already hate them, no worries.
There’s still plenty of blood to drain out of that corpse, just like facebook. They’re a punchline to anyone who knows the internet, but a staple of boomers now. Thing is, shoveling ai slop with ads to ignorant boomers has proven to be quite profitable.
Probably turn into Y/A answers before shuttling the site completely.
No surprise; It’s seemingly all bots arguing with other bots now anyway.
And my Reddit account is now gone, I nuked it.
Lol suck shit reddit. Rot in piss you won’t be missed!
It might be at least a little missed for all the useful info and history that it had accumulated over these decades… But oh well.
They shat this bed they get to lay in it
for all the useful info
Recently, I’ve been questioning how useful the reddit info actually is. I’ve been lurking in multiple subreddits related to things I’m actually quite knowledgeable at, and the amount of times I’ve seen people asking questions and getting absolutely bogus answers that were highly downvoted was just… concerning. Not to mention how often the correct answer was heavily downvoted for absolutely no reason. That’s when I realised - hey, maybe redditors aren’t that smart after all? I can detect the bullshit for the things I actually know, then what about things that I don’t? Should I trust them?
Not to mention that to get the info you want, usually you’ll have to get through a bunch of shitty jokes, going off topic, rants and even some “totally-not-sponsored” comments.
You’re noticing that Gell-Mann Amnesia.
I looked it up yesterday because I kept seeing it in an Angela Collier video title and I realised that despite watching the video and re-checking the info several times, I could never remember what Gell-Mann amnesia was, and that was too ironic to be allowed to continue. So this time instead of looking it up and going “ooohh, that’s right, okay, nevermind”, I went, "okay, now repeat it to yourself until you’re sure you won’t have to look it up again".
Thank you for saying it. Reddit still has a pocket in the public conciousness that its still the 1st place to go for answers. It isn’t and it hasn’t been for a loooooooooong time. Not just for the reasons you say, but severe tomfuckery with what they show to SE indexing bots. Most of the links that lead into Reddit are shady as fuck, rarely lead to any good information, and are clearly bubblesorted up in the search algos for mysterious reasons we can’t know in specifics. I did hardcore SEO for 2 years so I have at least a spidey-sense that there’s major shenanigans.
Good, hopefully spez will get what’s coming to him. He really ran the site into the ground.
He will get a golden parachute if things get worst.
I think he’s ready to pull the cord and stop hearing “fuck you spez” 999 times every minute
They banned everyone except establishment democrats, Nazis and Russian bots.
I see the fall of big social media into fascism as a big problem, despite the fact that it makes them less popular. The nazis are actively destroying spaces for communication of opposing opinions. They don’t mind the medias are harmed by that. The important thing is that what remains becomes a fascist echo chamber. Most normal people won’t be able to find alternatives like lemmy, so it makes the numbers of people with opposing views who are able to communicate smaller with every fall of a medium, social or other.
Get! Wreckt! Spaz!
Probably they tried to own the libs. Lol
MySpace will make a comeback.
It currently belongs to Viant Technology LLC, an advertising company that’s deeply invested into the AI bubble. Perhaps they’ll sell it off after the crash but honestly, MySpace’s downfall and sellout is kind of what’s wrong with Internet culture anyway so I don’t see any benefit in a restart. I’d rather see a complete reset.
Im gonna code the fuck out of my page. And put my top 5 on notice they better keep their shit together or they are OUT.
And that gum you like is going to come back into style .
And your hair will grow back like it used to.
Far too many bots on reddit. Half the time I wasn’t sure if I was talking to a real person.
cant be all those ban waves can it? feb 12-13th was the start of a massive account purging from the site,a nd you wonder why the engagment fell, leaving russian troll farms mostly intact, plus MUSK constant brigading on the site.
Don’t forget Molly cokeketamolly. It’s a Bay Area classic
I left when I couldn’t use the word “idiot” because it was a trigger word.
Sure Jan.
wanna hear some just as ridiculous, apparenlty skin color, and DEMOgraphic was considered a racist word, ever since trump came into power, all the subs became too sensitive around african american words.
Reddit is kinda dead it now
Well played. Take my upvote.
I was still lurking there but not so long ago it just died. The subs I was looking at stopped updating. There was no point going back.
Why are so many people here calling Spez “Spaz”? Isn’t that considered to be a slur similarly to the r-word?
meh
what’s your point?
Let’s pick a day and everyone short it
Community oriented websites have no growth potential once you’ve mined the community.
Hmmm, better push more ads and restrict discussion more
People are so ignorant of it too. Last time I mentioned lemmy as an alternative somewhere on discord I got nearly banned.
Suggit
Forget about growth. Forget investors. Forget about all those capitalist nonsense. What good are profits if everything goes to shit? The best thing about Lemmy is that it doesn’t give a shit about that. It’s decentralized and community driven. Capitalism prioritizes money not people.
Lol I sold mine in January. I’m fucking Warren Buffet.
I’m fucking Warren Buffet
That’s an expensive habit, no wonder you sold your stock.
Dude charges a million bucks for an hour lunch with him. Imagine how much an overnight special with Warren is :>
I’m surprised he can still get it going at his age, but good for both of you
Now you have to explain why you bought it in the first place (j/k)

Fuck reddit , its becoming weird being on there … its feels off , like you’re in an uncanny valley not knowing if you are taljing to a bot , a person or a troll

I remember when Reddit threads would have 50000 plus comments on the regular that felt like real discussions where karma kept the assholes in control. The front page always felt full of new things and it felt democratic in a way. In recent years it feels empty, algorithmic, and just kind of sad. Reddit felt like a safe place even with some of the grimier subreddit becoming popular. Now it’s just a oligarch pandering Nazi sympathizer platform. I was on there for 12 years and am happy I left it behind.

Sadly i have to be there as its the best place to get news about the place im living in , our newspapers work for our govenment and other channels are usually controlled opposition … reddit is the most trustworthy (its so ironic to tell you that but it is)

I saw more and more recent comment authors had the “closed account” icon before they shadowbannned me. A noticeable uptick in the last two weeks. That wasn’t uncommon to see before, on comments that were years old, but I saw it more and more.
I think they’re using AI to get rid of anyone who’s “too much trouble.” I broke no rules as far as I know. Didn’t glorify violence or bother anyone. But I did talk about politics.
Zentron@lemm.ee 1 week ago
Im watching political subs who are considered radical in the us … they are much more sterile than this time last year

Reading threads from even 5 years ago makes it painfully obvious reddit is dying. Its mostly repost bots now, and the upvoted comments often have the conversations out of order or have generic fortune cookie like responses.
