Amazon eliminated side loading? I’ve been using calibre to convert books to azw and transfer to my Kindle. Always worked fine for me. Unless they pushed out an update to break this?
- Comment on Did it really used to be common for guys to go to a bar every night like in Cheers or The Simpsons? 3 days ago:
I live in England, but maybe twenty years ago I’d go to my regular pub most days, have a couple of pints and maybe some food, socialise with people I’d got to know there.
Obviously that doesn’t happen anymore, it’s way too expensive now. Going to the pub or out for a meal is a rare treat these days.

I had a song intermittently stuck in my head for over a decade, couldn’t remember the artist, song name, or any of the lyrics. I only had the genre, language it was in, and a vague, memory-degraded description of a music video. Over the years I’d tried to find it on search engines a bunch of times to no avail, using every prompt I could think of. ChatGPT got it in one. So yeah, it’s very useful for stuff like that. Was a great feeling to scratch that itch after so long. But I wouldn’t trust an LLM with anything important.
- Comment on Wikipedia Says AI Is Causing a Dangerous Decline in Human Visitors 1 week ago:
I’m surprised no-one has asked an LLM to produce a plausible version and just released that, claiming it’s a leak.

Yeah. I might break my rule for phantom liberty, it’s reduced to £17 at the mo. I’m enjoying cyberpunk so much I might make an exception here! But I’ve still got plenty in my backlog.

Yeah, I’m in a similar situation. Don’t get a lot of game time and I’ve got a pretty large backlog of stuff I want to play. If I like the look of something I wishlist it and buy it on sale for less than £10.
I think the gamepass model is going to be struggling with economic factors - many of us are working more and have less playtime, and money is tighter.

I don’t mind paying for good games especially from indie studios. I wanna support that creativity. Although TBF I do usually wishlist them and buy them on sale. Just got some good stuff in the steam autumn sale for less than £10
- Comment on Shortly After Xbox Game Pass Prices Spiked, the Page to Cancel Game Pass Subscriptions Was Overwhelmed 3 weeks ago:
Yeah, I’ve got so many more games than I have time to play them that there’s never a need to play full price for anything. I wishlist em and pick them up when they’re on sale less than £10

Be nice if it runs on a steam deck, I have fond memories of the original silent hill.

I am in my 50s and I’ve missed a couple of decades of games - stopped gaming in the days of vice city and just started again recently when I got a steam deck. There’s a pretty big backlog of stuff that people highly recommend, but remasters and remakes offer me the opportunity to play these games with modern graphics. For someone who grew up with 8 bit graphics the stuff we can do these days is amazing and I want to enjoy games that are also good to look at. Recently finished bioshock remaster, enjoyed it immensely. So yeah, while it’s probably better for studios to focus on creating new stuff, there are people who enjoy the old stuff updated.

I’m probably old enough. And I did have a yummy mummy phase a couple decades back. So it’s not impossible.

Cool, cheers for the heads up. Yeah it’s on my list, I’ll get to it soon. I just gotta finish cyberpunk, then play Dishonored, then I’m thinking system shock is next.
- Comment on Everyone thinks the Deus Ex remaster looks awful and they're right: 'They really turned those 1999 graphics into 2003 graphics' 4 weeks ago:
Yeah I never played that either. I’m up for giving it a go, though. But I’m not great at precision controls, now I’m getting old my reactions aren’t so quick and my hands are pretty wrecked. But yeah there’s lots of old games I’ve missed out on and I’m enjoying catching up. Plus some of the new stuff is incredible for someone who was raised on 8 bit graphics.

Ah interesting. I’ll be playing on a steam deck, which edition would you recommend?
- Comment on Everyone thinks the Deus Ex remaster looks awful and they're right: 'They really turned those 1999 graphics into 2003 graphics' 4 weeks ago:
TBH I am happy they’re remastering some older games. I missed out on a lot of stuff because I was doing other things when a lot of highly regarded games came out (sold my PS1 to buy crack). So I’ve recently played bioshock - really enjoyed it - and system shock is in my queue. I’m not sure I’d have been so keen to try them if they’d had the original graphics, that shit looks so dated now. But yeah, maybe they’re taking the remaster thing a bit too far.
