- Comment on Mina the Hollower: Release Date Announcement Trailer (October 31) 21 hours ago:
Yeah, me too. I grew up with heavily pixelated 80s graphics and I have zero desire to return to that now that technology has improved so much that it’s not necessary.
Shame, because it means there are some games that I just won’t enjoy, but so it goes, there’s lots more stuff to play.

Yeah, horrible innit? When I used to go to the cinema as a kid in the 70s and 80s, you’d get maybe ten minutes of trailers before your film. And I never minded that, I don’t dislike watching trailers. These days, totally different. Last time I went to the cinema there was maybe half an hour of ads. Some trailers, but mostly just advertisements for crap.
It is so fuckin disrespectful to their customers. If I wanted to see all that bullshit, I could have stayed home and watched it on TV. Except I don’t watch TV because the experience is so poor - largely because of ads.
I understand that cinemas have been struggling ever since covid, even before, and I understand that advertising revenue pays the bills. But cinema isn’t cheap, for me it’s an occasional treat when there’s something I really wanna see on the big screen. I do not want to spend that much money and get treated like a fuckin farm animal being fed crap. Wankers.
I can’t be alone in feeling this way, who wants to pay to see ads? Who thinks that sounds like a great evening out? It ruins the experience, and it’s insulting, by the time the movie starts I’m angry. I’d rather pay a bit more and just have a couple of trailers.
I recently went to a small autonomous cinema with a mate and saw Mulholland Drive. Great experience, comfy seats, could bring in drinks from the bar, no fuckin ads. But for new films there aren’t many options. So I don’t often go to the cinema.
Sorry for this long and bitter diatribe! You just hit on something that really pisses me off too.

When I worked with kids, there were a lot of biohazards. Mostly shit, snot, and piss, but on a bus you’ll probably get a fair bit of puke too. I’m guessing the driver has to clean the bus.

Yeah, I’d buy a DLC for 2016 right now but I doubt I’ll buy Dark Ages, at least not until it’s on sale.

Yeah I’m currently playing cyberpunk for the first time and am loving it. Haven’t played Witcher 3 either, though that’s on my list. Had a twenty year break from gaming until I got a steam deck recently so have loads to catch up on!

Alex Garland has made some pretty good movies, so there’s a chance. I thought his instincts with annihilation were pretty much spot on. But yeah, movies based on games do not have a great track record.
- Comment on 70% of games that require internet get destroyed 2 weeks ago:
They should be required to transition the game into an offline mode!
Seems to me like this would be good business sense too. Wouldn’t people be more likely to buy their next online game if you felt there was a good chance you could keep playing it after a few years? Instead they’re going to get a reputation for making products with a short shelf life.

The general sentiment among those folks was that Eternal skewed too far into “combat puzzle” territory, where encounters felt like they had prescribed “solutions” that you needed to perform to succeed reliably.
Nailed it, that was exactly my problem with Eternal.

I really enjoyed 2016, couldn’t get into Eternal though. I’m definitely going to hold off on this new one until it’s been out longer and goes on sale, unless it gets standing ovations. Then, if I don’t like it I haven’t lost much.

Yeah I kinda like that brutalist look. Shame it’s impractically large, poorly built, dangerous, and produced by a nazi wanker.
- Comment on Tesla Reportedly Has $800 Million Worth of Cybertrucks That Nobody Wants 3 weeks ago:
This is very doable without needing an EV battery. Solar panels and lithium batteries have never been so cheap - tho I’m not in America, maybe tariffs effect this in the US. I have a 500w panel, victron shunt, controller, etc, 200ah lithium battery - the whole build cost maybe £800 a couple of years ago and the cost has dropped a fair bit since. I live in a small space and my needs are few - laptop, lights, phone, heater, etc. This does the job fine for me but it wouldn’t be hard to scale up.
- Comment on Tesla Reportedly Has $800 Million Worth of Cybertrucks That Nobody Wants 3 weeks ago:
Yeah, a better number would be how much it cost to build the fuckers. I’m assuming they also need ongoing maintenance while they sit around rusting.

- Comment on Silent Hill 2 (remake) now on GOG 4 weeks ago:
I played the first one or two long ago, I think it was early 00s. They were great, I was living in a big, long-abandoned commercial building we’d squatted and had a big screen (for those days) I’d found & fixed, amp and speakers likewise. I’d get stoned, stay up late playing alone, so atmospheric and proper scary. I really enjoyed them.
I am sure I’ve forgotten enough plot to enjoy playing remakes but I’d be playing em on steam deck, and I’m a little worried they wouldn’t live up to my memories.

- Comment on A month later, Japan’s cheap new PS5 rental service is still proving successful, with 200 locations renting out consoles at 100% capacity 1 month ago:
When I was a kid in the 80s this sort of business model was common with TVs and video recorders, then with early PCs. The machines were too expensive for many people to buy, so they’d rent instead. Cheaper consumer electronics killed this off, but as living standards get tighter maybe we’ll start seeing rentals becoming a thing again.
