- Comment on Disposable vapes to be banned in England and Wales from June 5 weeks ago:
TBH I like an elfbar sometimes. But I know how unsustainable they are, buying one feels worse than buying cocaine or meat or insert whatever fun and ethically challenging item.
I’ve never managed to replicate the disposable taste with a reusable vape, and I’ve had experience with reusables. Anyone know if it’s doable?
- Comment on Row as Starmer suggests landlords and shareholders are not ‘working people’ 5 weeks ago:
Very small scale landlords are often working people, and lots of working people own shares. That said, the bigger landowners and stock holders are much less likely to be working people. Those fuckers contribute nothing of value to society.
- Comment on Time has come for reparations conversation, say Commonwealth leaders 5 weeks ago:
Britain needs to sort out its current behaviour towards immigrant communities - remember the windrush thing? The shit with the Nepalese British army soldiers? All the other bullshit? Sort out the current problems before looking at historical moral obligations.
Although TBH I kinda feel like no nation, group, race, community, whatever - should feel obliged to make amends for shit their ancestors did long before they were born. One example of this is the Germans - too often they’re kinda held responsible for the Holocaust and Hitler, even if it’s just joking. When most of em weren’t even born when those atrocities happened. It’s not fair to blame em.
So yeah, I don’t think Britain should be held responsible for shit that happened before living memory. However shit we did within living memory, that’s different, maybe we gotta debt to pay there.
- Comment on Large Boeing Satellite Suddenly Explodes Into Pieces 5 weeks ago:
Yeah fair point. Boeing has a degraded reputation these days but at the mo we don’t know why it broke up. Probably never will. I’m kinda going on Occam’s razor here.
- Comment on Large Boeing Satellite Suddenly Explodes Into Pieces 5 weeks ago:
Great, more bits of dangerous junk in orbit. The fuckers should have to clear up their mess before it fucks up other satellites.
- Comment on They say “anyone can become president”, but this will be the first presidential election since 1970s, where there is no Bush, Clinton, or Biden on the ballot. 2 months ago:
Tbh I feel like trump counts in your list. The trumps may not be a wealthy political dynasty but trump managed to manipulate the media for decades and that works too.
It’s not true that anyone can get elected president, but anyone with enough money and recognition has a good chance.
- Comment on Rockstar Games DDoSed Heavily By Players Protesting New AntiCheat Code 2 months ago:
Yeah I get that. I don’t like foreign code on my machine. Trouble is, I dropped the ball with coding over twenty years ago and I kinda feel like the whole of windows is foreign code. I trust Linux more, but I don’t really understand it. I tend to assume that when I’m online my device is sending something I don’t want sent to some fucker I never even heard of. Insert shrug emoji
- Comment on Rockstar Games DDoSed Heavily By Players Protesting New AntiCheat Code 2 months ago:
Yeah, I remember the days when you’d get computer magazines for the Sinclair spectrum (I had the 48k) or the BBC b (now that’s was a great machine, basic interpreter and assembly compiler). When you bought games back then they were on a cassette tape. Sometimes the magazines would have those cheats - like you said, a code or sequence of keys for more lives n stuff. Back when I was playing vice city on the PS2 I remember finding a cheat that would drop a tank. Loved that shit. I am just getting back into gaming after a long gap (just finished bioshock, wow!) and I’ve not really done any online stuff. I probably won’t for a while, I’m way too old and shit, I’d get slaughtered by kids! Last time I played stuff against other humans was unreal tournament on a kinda LAN thing we set up in a squat way back. But I dunno, I think if I was playing that shit and getting slaughtered by kiddies a quarter of my age - I’d just play something else. Anything we do in life, there’s always people who are gonna be better at it. I’m thinking the way to deal with that is to put the work in and get good or accept that we’re not, or just do something else. I hear there are cheats for call of duty type things that people pay subscriptions for. I don’t get it.
But I’m not pissing on anyone else’s choices, plus like I say I’m way out of the loop on this. Thanks for sharing your experiences mate.
- Comment on Rockstar Games DDoSed Heavily By Players Protesting New AntiCheat Code 2 months ago:
Hmm thanks for the reply. Actually mate I kinda see your point. Like I said, I’m just getting into gaming after maybe a twenty year gap and I’ve not played much online stuff. Yeah I can see it would be frustrating to have all the cool shit behind a grind wall.
I guess when I heard cheating I was thinking of people who gain an unfair advantage and ruin the game for others. That’s the sort of cheating I don’t understand.
Back in the day, there were cheats in computer magazines, a sequence of key presses that would give you loads of lives or money or bullets or whatever. I used those an loved em.
- Comment on Rockstar Games DDoSed Heavily By Players Protesting New AntiCheat Code 2 months ago:
As someone who is pretty old and is a crap gamer - well firstly I only play single player so I guess it wouldn’t effect me. But what’s the problem with anti cheat? Aside from it being code you don’t want on your machine. I dunno, I don’t get why people cheat. Isn’t it a better feeling when you just play and get good?
- Comment on Despite tech-savvy reputation, Gen Z falls behind in keyboard typing skills 2 months ago:
Yeah, fair point. My first computer was a Tandy TRS80, followed by a ZX81. You pretty much had to learn BASIC to get them to do anything at all.
- Comment on Trump promotes family's new crypto platform, 'The Defiant Ones' 3 months ago:
Maybe trump is beginning to think he might not win the presidency so he’s got to grift as much as possible while he can.

- Comment on Windows 11 is now automatically enabling OneDrive folder backup without asking permission 5 months ago:
Yeah, it did this to me a few months back. Got the files back local eventually but it was a big pain in my arse. If I had time to learn another os I’d already be gone. Seems like Microsoft is determined to asset-strip whatever good reputation their product had left.
- Comment on Real-Time Strategy is incredible and you should play it 5 months ago:
I love RTS but I rarely play it these days because I don’t have a lot of screen time. When I have half an hour to pick up my device I’m probably going to play an FPS. I did start a play through of the original homeworld campaigns a while back but I’ve not had time to progress far.
- Comment on Microsoft insiders worry the company has become just 'IT for OpenAI' 5 months ago:
Yeah competition won’t work in a market where some competitors have such massive amounts of wealth. This is a failure of unrestrained capitalism and it’s bad for consumers ultimately.

I’m wondering if they are also less likely to speak English at the sort of standard employers seek.
- Comment on Windows 11 Start menu ads are now rolling out to everyone 7 months ago:
Yeah I’ve been thinking that too. Not sure I have time to learn it though so I keep sticking with windows. But I really have to make the effort to switch.

- Comment on EA just added classics like Dungeon Keeper, SimCity 3000, and Populous on Steam 8 months ago:
Yeah I’d forgotten about Populous, used to play it on my Amiga back in the day. It was the first. RTS type game I played iirc.
- Comment on Microsoft in their infinite wisdom has replaced the Hide Desktop icon with Copilot. 9 months ago:
Yeah, if Linux wants to become an alternative OS for average folks, its users need to stop being so evangelical and obnoxious. I’m sure there are linux users who don’t blow goats, they’re just not on lemmy, or they’re keeping quiet.
- Comment on Microsoft Flight Simulator x Dune - Official Launch Trailer 9 months ago:
This looks very pretty. But I can’t help looking at it and thinking about the mechanical implausibility of getting that flappy thing to fly. It looks like shrapnel waiting to happen. I never usually have a problem dispensing disbelief in games, I think the ‘simulator’ label makes my brain expect something grounded in reality.
- Comment on Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered has a warning about racial and ethnic stereotypes 9 months ago:
Yeah, it’s getting pretty hard to be an isolated community anywhere these days. Looks like these guys in the nicobar islands may be fucked.

Indeed. Some of us prefer being locked in the pantry.
