Mate I’m not arguing with a Christian. And I’ve been one, trust me they ain’t got any poetry that compares with the awe inspired by the existence of galaxies. And lol at certain animals on a particular planet doing particular things with their genitals be vital gears in the machine. On this planet alone there are (and have been) so many different forms of sexual reproduction that the idea that the human way is somehow more important than any of them is laughable. The clockmaker has made an incomprehensible number of gear types. What you do with your dick isn’t going to impact the time in anyway. The clock ticks on regardless.
Side note. The absolute incomprehensible scale of the universe is part of what helped me see through the cult bullshit I grew up in. Hearing the poetry of Carl Sagan spoke more to me than any patriarch. Just because you’re not inspired by the Cosmos doesn’t mean others aren’t either

The point is if there is a god the dude has bigger concerns. I agree morality exists, but it is an entirely human construct. We’re on our own, there’s no sign that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. So don’t be a dick, but do whatever you want with your own dick so long as it doesn’t impose on others.
- Comment on Check mate, atheists. 1 week ago:
Who is arguing that money existed before people invented it? Who is arguing that America existed before 1776? The issue with God is people are arguing that it is not just a human invention, but in fact that humanity is an invention of God. Which is in direct conflict of our scientific understanding of the world around us which leads to a variety of issues. I have no idea what point you’re trying to make. Is it that made up things can have real influence? Sure, I don’t think anyone would disagree. But the difference is I use all sorts of things humans made up, I know they made up, but they are useful. If I started to argue that currency has existed since before the dawn of the universe you’d say I had a mental condition
- Comment on Regular gym-goers probably avoid the gym on New Years Day because it's too crowded 1 week ago:
I think the all or nothing mentality is really holding a lot of people back. I know I can’t do that kind of thing personally and always build my habits slowly. Want to go full veg? Give up one animal a month. Want to learn woodworking? Add one new tool (and only one!) each project. Want to run every day? Start with once a week and build. Also don’t get all flustered if you miss one. Just do it the next day, don’t consider yourself defeated and give up.

Omg is that why all my usual veg were sold out today?
- Comment on Japan’s Birth Rate Set to Break Even the Bleakest Forecasts 1 week ago:
The problem is made up. We’re more productive than ever and should have plenty of leisure time and plenty of safety nets for old age…but that wealth has all been siphoned off by a very few. The solution to this is tax the wealthy.

You’re on the internet right now. Electricity is super dangerous and we already had a safe and well regulated postal system to communicate before that. If you’re arguing that we should never innovate I think we just disagree there . The same argument could be used against a lot of things. Do I like self driving cars? Idk not particularly, I like trains and bikes. But the idea of freeing up people’s time so they can focus on worthwhile endeavors appeals to me, and it bothers me that in our society the goal isn’t to work less, but rather to work more for less. That’s the point I was trying to make, that whenever we complain about ‘lost jobs’ we should take a moment to consider how absurd it is that that’s a problem
- Comment on A San Francisco power outage left Waymo's self-driving cars stranded at intersections 2 weeks ago:
I agree with those things, but I believe the person I was responding to was complaining about putting cab drivers out of work. I just think it’s unfortunate that we can’t simply take care of each other, that people are only valued based on what they produce, and therefore any threat to that production is viewed as negative. We’re more productive than ever and we work more than ever. Our ancestors would be baffled if they could see us
- Comment on A San Francisco power outage left Waymo's self-driving cars stranded at intersections 2 weeks ago:
We’ve managed to create a society where people are upset about technology doing the work that people used to do. We’ve just completely lost the plot haven’t we
- Comment on at what point in life it's too late to go back to school? 3 weeks ago:
OP is saying at some point it financially doesn’t pencil out. Like, if I make x now, spend y to get a degree, and then make z, about when does it stop making sense to spend y? Obviously this depends on a lot of things but the answer is definitely not never. I suspect they are trying to get a general sense of around when that would be because they don’t know the exact values of x y and z.
- Comment on Salt is very salty. Sugar is not that sweet. 4 weeks ago:
Nah mate. Stop eating sugar for a while and suddenly sweet fruits can be too much sometimes. I can’t eat sugary foods anymore. Adding some salt to a dish brings out flavour, adding sugar makes it sweet.

It’s weird being on this site sometimes. Not everyone speaks computer, but it turns out that doesn’t make them dumb, they’re just good at different things. Personally I have no issues doing electrical work but know I would get incredibly frustrated trying to work a Linux machine. I have no interest in learning all that noise because it straight up is not interesting to me and is not worth my time. I had my fill of that nonsense in school. I’d def be a potential customer of something like this that ‘works out of the box’ - honestly that’s the real path to getting people off windows.
- Comment on 1 month ago:
I’m guessing the same reason people don’t always reroof their own house, or replace their own home electrical, or build their own bike. Sometimes it’s worth spending money to avoid doing a thing you either don’t want to or don’t know how to do. As I’ve gotten older and more financially secure that’s definitely been the case with me at least

When did op say anything about their value as a human being tied to intelligence? They said insecure about their intelligence. You just totally projected something that wasn’t there then were an ass about it.

Do you know what power stations feed your electrical circuit? Do you know which transformers are most critical to keep you in service? Do you know who manufactured them?
Do you know where your water comes from? Which facilities treat it? How it’s treated?
Can you name your senators, house rep, state senators, state rep, and local officials?
Everyone can’t know everything. I doubt you do, but I wouldn’t call you a fucking idiot for that. I would call you a fucking idiot for being such a small-minded asshole though. You’re not the smartest person in the room, and even if you were, you still wouldn’t understand how 99% of human technology works. We’re in this together and we lean on each other. That’s the beauty and curse of being human

I mean if I’m going to spend time practicing something it’s certainly going to be an instrument and not a video game.
- Comment on The Purpose of Difficulty | GMTK Mini 3 months ago:
For some people ‘fun’ is the primary reason they play games. If they aren’t fun, they better have a whole lot else going for them. Personally I play games to unwind, so any type of ‘frustrating’ is a hard no from me. I get plenty of that in my day job. But not all games need to be for me and that’s fine. I just wish people could understand that not all of us are looking for a ‘sense of accomplishment’ from playing a video game. I get that some people value that, great, stop acting like everyone needs to be the same
- Comment on Why is the human body so incredibly bad at responding to colds? 3 months ago:
Blows my mind that the solution for so many things is just ‘try not to make it worse while your body does magic’ Broken bone? Stop moving it and wait. Cold? Drink water, sleep, and wait. Cut? Cover it up so it’s not actively bleeding, and wait. Even in modern medicine were still letting the body do the heavy lifting, just trying to help it out where we can. No wonder diet and exercise are such good preventative measures

- Comment on If the UK government proposed to increase tax by 1% and make trains free would you be in favour? 3 months ago:
First off, no chance those taxes cover all roads, the general population tax is subsidizing. That also doesn’t consider the environmental impact that’s being socialized. And the safety impact. And how roads are given priority over people almost every time. Cars are insanely subsidized by society - but that’s not my point. These types of programs are more efficient without a bunch of means testing and related bureaucracy. If something is for the public good we should be willing to socialize the cost. You today, me tomorrow.
- Comment on If the UK government proposed to increase tax by 1% and make trains free would you be in favour? 3 months ago:
Do I get a tax exemption for road construction if I don’t drive a car? It’s good for society, do it. We don’t need every tax to have a bunch of bureaucracy piled on top of it making it less efficient. Rising tides raise all ships.

Yeah I think as long as the devs are forward about it no problem. I have plenty of ‘hard things’ in my day to day life and I’m not looking for more of that in a videogame. Give me a Stardew or Factorio everytime - I want to relax and design things. Different games are for different people and that’s a good thing. Any game made to satisfy everyone will almost certainly satisfy no one.
