That’s creepy as fuck and would guarantee I never buy that product.

Man, I need to rewatch that movie…

Maan, I‘d rather have proper self lacing shoes. This version of the future sucks.
beejjorgensen@lemmy.sdf.org 3 weeks ago
I can’t wait for this shit to become so pervasive that I only read paper books.
Darkenfolk@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
Paper books and comparable are now prohibited under the konzom act, your daily advertisement quota has been increased until morale improves or your mind breaks, whichever comes first.
Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 3 weeks ago
Nope, nope and nope.
chillpanzee@lemmy.ml 3 weeks ago
These remaining DirecTV subscribers are gonna be pissed when AT&T swaps out the dial-tone on their landline for an ad stream.
PattyMcB@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Most of them are probably boomers and will be dead soon, anyway
BD89@lemmy.sdf.org 3 weeks ago
If it means they will finally stop fucking voting then good deal all around!
pewgar_seemsimandroid@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 weeks ago
does at&t still own direc tv?
chillpanzee@lemmy.ml 3 weeks ago
I don’t know. Maybe not. Last I worked with them they were still Hughes, but the ATT acquisition had been announced.
Fun story… it once took a bit over an hour to get from their building on Imperial Hwy to the passenger terminal at LAX, and you can see LAX out the uber window on the other side of the street the entire ride. Lol.
palordrolap@fedia.io 3 weeks ago
Hahaha, that's not dystopian at all, hahahaha.
CosmoNova@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Not my face. I‘m staying far away from those things. I wonder if generating personalized ads can even be profitable. Seems like a lot of effort to dish out some slop.
Nollij@sopuli.xyz 3 weeks ago
It probably depends on how personalized the ads are. It should come as no surprise that targeted ads have been a thing as long as ads have existed. Coke ads during family shows, alcohol ads (you’ll be cool if you use our product) on MTV, etc.
There are already a number of algorithms to deliver one ad for a product over another, based on likely demographics. Streaming has greatly increased this, since specific demographic details are immediately and directly available when the ad is shown. I won’t get the same as on Hulu that you get.
As for generating ads on-the-fly, that seems unlikely. Few ads are fully generated at all, let alone in response to demographics or the specific viewer(s).
There are also risks when deploying ads without vetting. Some of these viewers will be dressed as Nazis, and will happily share the video to everyone.
muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
Ah yes, that’s what will get me to engage with ads all they needed to do was put my face in them.
Business majors are so fucking stupid.
echodot@feddit.uk 3 weeks ago
Ads are much more likely to be effective on me if they have attractive people in them.
Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
It will engage me to turn it off.
Snowpix@lemmy.ca 3 weeks ago
It’s certainly engaged me to never, ever invest in their services. Ever.
toiletobserver@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I was taught none of that during my undergrad. Instead, i say that people who are greedy just happened to get business degrees as a tool to help them be greedy.
floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 weeks ago
Who in their right mind would think this is a good idea? Are managers so caught up in the “just add AI bro it will make us cool” that no one stops to think “yeah I would never want this in my living room”?
cheesorist@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
they know what they’re doing, they’re just disgusting humanoids.
muntedcrocodile@hilariouschaos.com 3 weeks ago
Who the fuck are they getting your face?
dublet@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
DirecTV’s screensavers will let a user create an AI avatar of themself by scanning a QR code on the screensaver
You are expected to volunteer your face. And interact with the ads. Because you are getting this device to watch ads. Apparently.
Hule@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Bojack Horseman would look great as my face then.
PK2@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Challenge accepted!
Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive 😜.
bitjunkie@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Haha you probably think those things in your yard are birds
muntedcrocodile@hilariouschaos.com 3 weeks ago
Makes sence that the birds aren’t working at the moment since the government is shutdown
beejjorgensen@lemmy.sdf.org 3 weeks ago
They take pictures of you sleeping.

This is going to be an absolute nightmare for schizophrenics.
Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
Imagine someone gets back at their ex and puts a dispenser with LSD in it programmed to dispense a bit every like 15 liters poured out of their Samsung Fridge… Which will probably also play adds with your face on it.

was…was this you?

I hate what humanity chose to do with its “God given” gifts.
FauxLiving@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Ok grandpa, turn off the DirectTV and power down your AM radio. Using a technology that old is guaranteed to land you deep in enshittification-land.
I’ve been watching Jellyfin for a while and I have not seen the first ad,
SlippiHUD@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Literal nightmare fuel
altphoto@lemmy.today 3 weeks ago
OK so that’s the set we shouldn’t buy. OK noted.
Dasus@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
You misspelled “shove”
Grimy@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I have generated videos with me in then and it’s a very weird feeling. Actually getting surprised by then in an ad would be brutally unpleasant. They will never do this.
That being said, they will absolutely put people that reassemble us. So personalized ad with someone that has the same hair color, skin color, height, facial structure and age, wearing about the same kind of clothes we usually do.
Nollij@sopuli.xyz 3 weeks ago
reassemble
I’m sure that was autocorrect, but it feels awfully portentous.
BD89@lemmy.sdf.org 3 weeks ago
I surprised you think they will “never do this”. They will have some study done by an entity closely connected to an AI firm that affirms that “this makes products X amount more likely to sell!”
Whether it is true or not will be irrelevant. They will do it.
bitjunkie@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Probably run some GSA algorithm to make a version of you that could be a long-lost half-sibling you inexplicably want to fuck
Grimy@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
You say that as if it’s a bad thing
ieGod@lemmy.zip 3 weeks ago
TIL DirecTV is still around.
null_dot@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 weeks ago
Seems like a real can / should problem to me.
Hard to believe this would entice anyone to purchase where a sexy lady couldn’t.

umbraroze@slrpnk.net 3 weeks ago
I’m fed up with the streaming services, so I’m getting back to my big pile of DVDs and Blu-Ray discs.
I was randomly reminded of the “BD-Live” thing that I tried long ago. One of the most janky joyless things I had ever seen. Some marketing person had decided to do a marketing thing for movie promos and trailers and had forgotten that the thing was to be visited by actual people.
This sounds like it was cooked up by the same people. Looks like marketing people building a Thing.
percent@infosec.pub 3 weeks ago
I haven’t heard DirecTV mentioned in such a long time, I’m a little surprised it still exists

Stop wasting your money.
