Fascinating and funny problem, great thread.

I got a TV shelf with wheels last year which has been amazing for rolling the TV wherever I need it. Absolute game changer since you can sit wherever you want and always get a good viewing angle, and all the HDMI ports and such are easily accessible.
Minimalistic ones made of steel can look pretty sleek too.

$600 MacBook in 2026 is absolutely insane to me. Around 2007/08 when I started using MacBooks as a student the entry level ones used to be 1200€.

- Comment on Why do horses allow humans to ride on their backs? 1 month ago:
They are forced into submission through a process of violence and psychological torture their abusers call “breaking”. They have also been selectively bred for docile traits.

I fully expect that iPod to be removed over licensing BS if we ever get a remaster, because Apple has only gotten worse since Steve Jobs and Jonathan Ive are no longer with the company.
As an aside, a modern rerelease of the iPod Classic with WiFi and Bluetooth would be so cool. Sort of like those SNES mini consoles Nintendo etc used to make a decade ago. Never gonna happen, but it’d be nice to keep the form factor alive for enthusiasts.

MGS4 felt like it was a whole console generation ahead at the time. Even in retrospect it could pass as a PS4 game.

- Comment on Larian want to release Divinity in "three to four years", and they're making limited use of generative AI 2 months ago:
What is placeholder text even supposed to mean? Why would they need anything more sophisticated than Lorem Ipsum? Same thing with “placeholder concept art”. If it’s used early in the production cycle it will at the very least implicitly shape the perception and thereby further development of the game. Worrying.

- Comment on Divinity - Cinematic Announcement Trailer 2 months ago:
I had that same exact reaction. Like, I loved DOS2 and know it had horror elements in it, but the overall tone was much more humorous and more cartoony. Seeing this trailer lean so heavily into edginess and shock value was a little disheartening. There’s enough awful shit out there in the real world, so I really cherish the few RPG series that reject cynicism, postmodernist storytelling and grimdark aesthetics for a more positive and hopeful feel. At least we still have Dragon Quest and Xenoblade I guess…

- Comment on Expecting a LLM to become conscious, is like expecting a painting to become alive 3 months ago:
We don’t know how consciousness arises, and digital neural networks seem like decent enough approximations of their biological counterparts to warrant caution. There are huge economic and ethical incentives to deny consciousness in non-humans. We do the same with animals to justify murdering them for our personal benefit. We cannot know who or what possesses consciousness. We struggle to even define it.
- Comment on What if I told you that refusing to trade your life time for money is a good and respectable choice 3 months ago:
3 days work, 4 days off is the sweet spot for me. Engage in wage slavery as little as you can get away with.
I only make enough to cover rent with 200-300€ left over each month to spend on food and other things, but I can keep myself entertained on very little.
Having more money wouldn’t be worth spending an extra day each week getting exploited. - Comment on My thumb stick on my 3ds is disintegrating, and my switch is starting to follow. Please help. 3 months ago:
