- Comment on Expecting a LLM to become conscious, is like expecting a painting to become alive 3 days ago:
We don’t know how consciousness arises, and digital neural networks seem like decent enough approximations of their biological counterparts to warrant caution. There are huge economic and ethical incentives to deny consciousness in non-humans. We do the same with animals to justify murdering them for our personal benefit. We cannot know who or what possesses consciousness. We struggle to even define it.
- Comment on What if I told you that refusing to trade your life time for money is a good and respectable choice 4 days ago:
3 days work, 4 days off is the sweet spot for me. Engage in wage slavery as little as you can get away with.
I only make enough to cover rent with 200-300€ left over each month to spend on food and other things, but I can keep myself entertained on very little.
Having more money wouldn’t be worth spending an extra day each week getting exploited. - Comment on My thumb stick on my 3ds is disintegrating, and my switch is starting to follow. Please help. 1 week ago:

Its a little annoying, but much less than I always feared. Make a note with every service you can think of, brew some coffee, put on some music and zone out for a bit haha. Pretty much done now, took less than 2 hours.
You got this! - Comment on Gmail can read your emails and attachments to train its AI, unless you opt out 2 weeks ago:
This worked as a great reminder to ditch gmail. Just made the switch to Protonmail after a year of procrastination. Currently an hour into changing all my accounts to it, and about halfway done. Well worth it. They got a Black Friday deal right now. I went with the base Mail+Calendar package because I already got Mullvad for VPN, and don’t need cloud storage.
Couldn’t be happier.
- Comment on If Valve creates an "entry point" for living room PCs, the console-beating Steam Machines will follow, argues Baldur's Gate 3's publishing director 2 weeks ago:
To Newell “painful” probably means one less annual yacht’s worth of profit.

SteamOS is by far the least stable experience I’ve ever had out of all consoles and handhelds I remember owning. Linux phone would be nice though. - Comment on Uh oh: Ubisoft postpones its quarterly financial report at the last minute and halts stock trading 3 weeks ago:
Same. Companies can just halt trading of their stock?

He’s just another fat dragon who got rich exploiting people through ownership of capital. Then he got children hooked on gambling because one billion wasn’t enough.
- Comment on Steam Hardware [new Steam Controller, Steam Machine, and VR headset Steam Frame, coming in 2026] 3 weeks ago:
My Deck definitely had its fair share of hardware issues when I got it. Ended up getting a replacement for a faulty GPU, but the WiFi card also had its issues and kept disconnecting constantly. It was a first year LCD Deck though, so maybe they’re better now. I also used to be in a Steam Deck discord and the number of users reporting hardware (and software) trouble seemed fairly high there too.
Valve makes up for these issues with above average customer service, but in an unsupported country I’d for sure avoid early adopting their hardware.
- Comment on Steam Hardware [new Steam Controller, Steam Machine, and VR headset Steam Frame, coming in 2026] 3 weeks ago:
No warranty in unsupported countries, and from what I’ve seen of Valve’s quality control you probably wouldn’t want to risk that.

Cops also love them because they make getting access to your entire phone including all accounts simple as cake if you use fingerprint/faceID to unlock your device.

- Comment on Why have so many services started using single-factor passwordless authentication in the last little while? 5 weeks ago:
I’m paranoid so I view passkeys and similar streamlined login mechanisms as a way to make it easy for police to access your entire digital life once they unlock your phone. This is why manufacturers started pushing biometric unlocking so hard. Once someone has access to your person and phone they no longer need PINs or passwords to gain access to everything.
- Comment on When was the last time you actually laughed while playing a game? 5 weeks ago:
The Dragon Quest games make me laugh all the time. The NPC dialogues are beautifully written, and frequently have little humorous elements in them. The monster designs and animations are also often funny in their own ways. Can’t recommend these games enough.

- Comment on Google will require developer verification for Android apps outside the Play Store 3 months ago:
Right now? Yeah, its very easy to do, and there’s a download link for it included in GrapheneOS’s preinstalled app-store.
I am however worried that eventually Google will make running custom software (apks, alternate firmwares) so difficult that development for those will stop long term.
