Literally haven’t heard anything that this person did as CEO in the two years since she joined.

Thats because all of the heinously stupid things were done by the previous CEO.

she was hired to fix the advertiser exodus. Good reason to quit is this scandal would hurt her bonuses/job function.
jaybone@lemmy.zip 9 months ago
Also it’s a good excuse to quit when you can’t fix the advertiser problem.

X Pretend CEO Linda Yaccarino
Binturong@lemmy.ca 9 months ago
Yaccity Yacc, don’t come back…
CatZoomies@lemmy.world 9 months ago
Thoughts and prayers for the next CEO to not get Grok-blocked.
Thankfully, Linda Yaccarino’s Golden Parachute worked perfectly fine.
vivalapivo@lemmy.today 9 months ago
She was a DEI hire anyway, right folks?
bus_factor@lemmy.world 9 months ago
Is it still a DEI hire if it’s also a glass cliff?
someguy3@lemmy.world 9 months ago
lol well it went longer than I thought it would.
the_q@lemmy.zip 9 months ago
I can’t believe people still use Twitter.
Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 9 months ago
2 foreign parties have interest in keeping it up. MSB and putin.
Samskara@sh.itjust.works 9 months ago
There’s still some information on certain topics, where it is the best place to find it. OSINT for example.
People who use Twitter to publish and have a large audience are reluctant to leave their followers behind. Convincing followers to go over to a new platform is not so easy. If you fear losing 70% of your followers, if you switch to Blusky, or 95% if you switch to Mastodon, then it might be risky financially.
Network effects are strong.
crusa187@lemmy.ml 9 months ago
Perhaps you shouldn’t. At this point, it’s likely the majority of users are bots.
Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 9 months ago
We can all go entire books at this point with the things we can’t believe…
This timeline is fucking insane, and twice as depressing as anything I thought I’d ever live through.
1984@lemmy.today 9 months ago
Most of the content here is from twitter, so yeah…
Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 9 months ago
What?
bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 9 months ago
Lots of people addicted. Never had it, thought it was stupid when it came out.
ripcord@lemmy.world 9 months ago
I keep getting arguments from peoplee about this, even on Bluesky.
Apparently it’s too much to expect people to inconvenience themselves and not follow their favorite musicians or whatever.
If the vast majority of people can’t be assed to take the absolutely easiest step possible to fight (or avoid supporting) fascists/Nazis, then we really are fucked.
Same thing with how people could very, very easily choose just NOT to buy another Nazicar. Yet 90% if Americans still bought one last month as a year earlier. It’s just about the smallest sacrifice I can think of - just buying a DIFFERENT car that you might not like quite as much.
And I think the fact that we are where we are right now also confirms the problem.
jaybone@lemmy.zip 9 months ago
Are you saying 90% of Americans bought a Tesla last month?
DJDarren@sopuli.xyz 9 months ago
Perhaps it’s because I’m old, but I kinda hit a wall a few years back where I stopped giving a shit about what famous people had to say on the internet. So on that basis, the move from Twitter to Mastodon was easy for me. Less easy was leaving behind people who I liked, but life is change, and we leave people behind all the time.
SupraMario@lemmy.world 9 months ago
Yea I really don’t understand this, like move it’s 2 seconds to join bluesky…like damn
Lizardking13@lemmy.world 9 months ago
For me, it’s the best place for quick sports updates. Many writers have moved to bluesky, but many more have not. Sports Twitter is the sole reason I use it.
the_q@lemmy.zip 9 months ago
This right here summarizes the problem.
“Yeah it’s full of Nazis and has had a big hand in the downfall of modern America, but my convenience!”
simplejack@lemmy.world 9 months ago
I feel like the common use cases are:
- you’re MAGA nut
- you’re not a MAGA nut, but you want to see what the loonies are talking about
- You’re a marketer or influencer and you know MAGA nuts also buy shit
makyo@lemmy.world 9 months ago
I’m guessing also - 3b. and you know they buy stupid shit
Stanley_Pain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 months ago
Lots of Nazis around these days. That’s why.
SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 9 months ago
Lotsa Nazis out there.

I dont really care that the average person still uses twitter… What’s INFURIATING is that gov’t agencies are still using that shit. Why are important pieces of information still being shared on twitter??
wetsoggybread@lemmy.world 9 months ago
My friend works for a local town that has a presence on fb, twitter, and inatgarm. The main reason he says they haven’t moved to platforms like blsky is because as a government entity they are required to be able to archive all online communications for situations like a Right-to-know request but run into the issue that these small platforms aren’t supported by the archiving software so they can’t move away completely until then. Fun fact: 1st amendment prevents the government pages from removing or hiding comments you leave on their posta

Don’t be surprised that fascists use the fascist megaphone.
don@lemmy.ca 9 months ago
The Secretary of Defense coordinated military operations on Signal, accidentally included a reporter to the group chat (who later spilled the tea on the whole thing), and in that chat claimed they were “clean” on their opsec.
That’s what republicans do. They’re dumber than a bag of wet bags.
Lanusensei87@lemmy.world 9 months ago
People just don’t want to quit because the alternatives aren’t populated enough… Which is caused by people not leaving. Twitter is to many a necessity for their business, just like many softwares provided by scum companies.
Dudewitbow@lemmy.zip 9 months ago
people are always resistant to changing habits
mienshao@lemmy.world 9 months ago
I think this every single time I see news about that website. Like what the fuck is possibly on there that justifies using that piece of shit platform? Insanity.
mal3oon@lemmy.world 9 months ago

Tech news. Fast tech news. It’s well centralized. Unfortunately nothing comes close (not reddit, nor HN, nor lemmy).
Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 9 months ago
There’s just a lot less activity on the alternatives. Especially if you’re trying to follow niche interests.
Obviously, I left, but I get how barren it can feel when the latest post about a hobby of yours is 3 days old, instead of 3 minutes.

People. Lots of people. Including Doctor Cory Doctorow and Molly White.

Non-fediverse social media is designed to be addictive because that’s how the people running it make money.
mhague@lemmy.world 9 months ago
You can mimic the feel of Twitter by taking reddit threads and cutting them at the most popular reply (Reddit already does this), and then reversing the order. Now the “best” content is front and center and the conversation / context is in the background. Users don’t have to go through the tediousness of a discussion before experiencing the sheer joy of a witty response. The emotions come faster and more consistently.
CluckN@lemmy.world 9 months ago
Unfortunately I think people don’t care how the sausage is made. It has porn and
racistedgy memes so they’ll keep coming back.Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 9 months ago
People use it for the same reason they use Truth Social.

she was just a standin for trump, who was still the actual chairman/ceo, she is put there to take the blame for X’s criticism.
AKA a GLASS cliff situation.
sundray@lemmus.org 9 months ago
Well, according to one source:
At X, her base salary was reportedly $6 million, according to Market Realist. In addition to this, she was eligible for up to $2 million in annual performance bonuses and received $4 million in stock options spread across a three-year term.
So if she stuck around another year she’d have gotten another ~$1.3 million in stock options. Guess she figured it wasn’t worth it.
