Step up your parenting game: Study metallurgy.

I remember kids with meter long rip cords and giant knock offs and extra large metal disks that terrorised the playground back in the day lol. There were also kids with knock off metal disks with flints that spark when 2 bayblades hit each other so that was cool.

I remember one kid saying he was going to attach razor blades or sharpen the fins on his Beyblade. I also remember seeing him crying the nurse’s office the next day with his hand bandaged.

And they say you learn nothing valuable in school. Smh my head.
Aeao@lemmy.world 13 hours ago
Knew a guy who sharpened his fingernails before a fight. Realized his mistake when he hit someone with his fist and cut himself up. Poor planning .

Get discs of steel and ferrocerium. Even more sparks than flint!
ClathrateG@hexbear.net 19 hours ago
ha that’s sort of what I did, not knockoffs but I used the largest diameter weight disk combined with the smallest diameter bottom and top , so the metal edges of the disk would stick out further than the plastic ‘blades’ of the topper, it would sometimes knock chips out of others kids ones lol

I remember those fake beyblades that were completely made out of metal. Those things were dangerous. Never used my original beyblades against those death machines.
Jakeroxs@sh.itjust.works 6 hours ago
They had real all metal beyblades
ook@discuss.tchncs.de 16 hours ago
Fuck yeah. You can tell that dad was both proud of his kid crushing other beyblades and also proud of his own engineering skills.

It’s a ballsy move
dohpaz42@lemmy.world 18 hours ago
You could say, balls of steel.
~Thank you. I’ll be here all week. Try the veal.~

As a kid, my friends also realized this. We started using glue guns to glue more weight disks on our beyblades. It turned into an arms race lmao. It didn’t get super crazy since people didnt own that many beyblades but I do remember i had a beyblade with 3 weight disks.

When I was a kid, my parent found some cheap china beyblade kit box, it came with random stuff to make beyblade. One of the stuff was kinda heavy metal core and it had 4 small plastic bits sticking out, and they CUTS. I fucked up couple of my other beyblades before I notice the damages.
Septimaeus@infosec.pub 14 hours ago
Lol nice. I wonder if he used tungsten carbide blanks. Probably densest cheap metal if lead isn’t an option. Would need diamond cutting discs/bits to fit it tho.
Sunforged@lemmy.ml 13 hours ago
I watched a video where some crafters used tungsten powder mixed in an epoxy for a really great effect. Get that heavy and metallic look of tungsten but easy to cast like epoxy.

happy cake day!
Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 12 hours ago
But lead would be an option. Just don’t lick it and it’s fine.
Septimaeus@infosec.pub 10 hours ago
Yeah you’re right. I’m too used to worst-possible-case being min req but you’re right.

Its funny. I had never heard of Beyblades before last year. A kid/young man came it with his improved beyblades designs he had done in tinkercad. I helped him with how to 3d print them. Somewhere he still competes with them. He is twenty or so.
