Growing desperate to move, the Friedmans finally put their house on the market in May for nearly $4.5 million.

It refers to that incident with the Maroon 5 singer.
- Comment on We are mainstream now🔥 1 day ago:
What’s that supposed to mean? All of Lemmy servers are open to the public. Anyone can read all the messages even without any accounts? The decentralised parts mainly prohibit shutting down the whole network easily, taking out one server wouldn’t do much to the rest.
- Comment on Finally an explanation that makes sense 6 days ago:
OK, boomer.

- Comment on "A guitarist who's also an astronaut" sounds more impressive than "An astronaut who plays the guitar", despite both meaning the same thing. 1 week ago:
It’s because being an astronaut is an actual job you commit to or you won’t get to do your job. Guitarist can mean anything from picking up the guitar once a month to being lead guitarist in the best band of the world.
One is a job description, the other one can be just a hobby or a full blown job.

You don’t use the internet on a laptop?
- Comment on Lately, a great many people who used to say they didn't care about privacy because they had nothing to hide must be realizing what a flawed conclusion that was. 1 week ago:
You’re too optimistic here. Such people will only realise their error if something bad happens to them that also screams at them that it was only possible because of their privacy eroding. They don’t usually connect the dots themselves.

long sigh and then he morbed all over the place
- Comment on Readers are canceling their Vogue subscriptions after AI-generated models appear in August issue 1 week ago:
I am positively surprised people noticed it is AI. I mean, I only see those example images in the article, they didn’t trigger any red flags for me in particular. But maybe there’s more in the actual magazine that does stand out.

- Comment on Echelon kills smart home gym equipment offline capabilities with update 1 week ago:
So, hilariously, if you never had connected them, you’d still retain the offline features, since they couldn’t push that update on you?
Although I assume they push you hard to connect them at first use.
- Comment on They're completely serious 2 weeks ago:
You… are looking at a fossil of one. That’s what the post is about. I mean, maybe they fossilize less frequent than other animals, but it seems like they do.
- Comment on Ubisoft: Microtransactions make games more fun 2 weeks ago:
They do. They do not care. It’s part of the problem.
- Comment on Microsoft buys more than a billion dollars’ worth of excrement, including human poop, to clean up its AI mess — company will pump waste underground to offset AI carbon emissions 2 weeks ago:
No. Carbon offsetting is a scam and does not do shit for the environment.
- Comment on Hotels have developed a new revenue stream: "algorithmic" smoke detectors 2 weeks ago:
Surprise, banks also pull disgusting shit. Who would have thought about that.
- Comment on Password manager by Amazon 2 weeks ago:
Valid question. But this article is a physical book in your own hands. I am not saying this is safe or anything but has nothing to do with Amazon besides that they sell it.

- Comment on so... dubvee and dubvee tesseract shut down. 3 weeks ago:
If that is stated somewhere openly before signing up, I honestly see nothing wrong with it. I wouldn’t sign up there, but if there are any tangible rules associated with what is banned and what is not, and you can check those, fine.
If its erratic banning and random rules not written down, then eh, bad stuff.

I know it is a meme, but I feel this is a little too belittling of climate change being responsible for increase in temperature. Like, I can see this unironically shared on Facebook and twitter with people being “hurrdurr, fake climate change, heat comes from sun!!!”.
- Comment on Fat (5mL) eppendorf shaming 3 weeks ago:
What? So much better than the 15 (or just 14) ml falcon tube. Don’t need a long stripette to take off liquid if you just got 3 ml in there.
