I was expecting them to reply like “what’s cyberpunk?”
“And that’s how I met my FBI officer.”
CP77.
Its really not that hard to abbreviate Cyberpunk 2077.
You’re gonna get HOW MUCH CP?!?!
Not sure that’s any better.
They made a sequel and kept going??
Maybe he didn’t mean Cyberpunk 2077, and just meant the genre in general? I mean, there are other cyberpunk games, plus tv shows, movies, anime, literature, etc.
That is true.
Though… I find the assumption they are talking about Cyberpunk 2077 more realistic:
CyberPunk 2077 did have a very controversial, busted ass broken launch, took em like 2 or 3 years to fully fix it up.
Whereas like… a person with an anime avatar… is presumably familiar… with anime?
Akira? Ghost in the Shell?
Is… cyberpunk as a genre generally… controversial? In… modern day?
I can see it as more controversial like, 20 to 30 years ago… back when Pokemon cards were literally demon magic, as was DnD.
But not present day?
I realize this is not infallible logic… but the idea of an anime fan who finds the genre of cyberpunk controversial… this is basically ridiculous to me, whereas 77 much more recently was in much more controversy.
Or, perhaps I am just old.
Good thing is nowadays it’s being referenced to as CSAM (Child Sexual Abuse Material), due to children are unable to give consent and some weirdos tried to whitewash it by calling the less outrageous stuff “child erotica” or “artistic nudes of children”.🤮
Those names aren’t doing a very good job of whitewashing.
Debated not posting this comment just because the subject itself is so icky:
I am so glad that this is the term now. Some freaks argue that CP where a minor isn’t straight-up r*ped is “victimless” (too young, they didn’t know they were recorded, etc). The new CSAM term is a line in the sand and makes it clear that any material featuring minors created for that purpose is a product of sexual assault even if they “consent” to it. Legally, they can’t consent and the only way to create the material is to harm innocent children.
Anyway, I’m going to go find brain bleach like videos a kitten and a giant dog being best friends or something now…
Or loli
But I would think CP is more well known than CSAM
Ew it touched Instagram, is it contagious?
Yea, you have now been infected with the coperate.
Ya want to keep up to date with local bands, gigs and venues in my city there’s really no alternatives to IG.
I just have a friend who uses it and tells me what shows are coming
There has to be some other whey!
Good god I hope that tweet’s fake cause if not, that person obviously doesn’t proofread stuff lol. also Breaking Bad is one of the best shows ever and you should give it a watch
If I like the Anime version of it enough, I’ll actually try Bb. I honestly never gave it a fair shot because of how controversial it was.
If you have a 1% error rate in tweets, even if you proofread that’s still a .01% chance to make a mistake. With the volume of tweets it shouldn’t surprise you that some people make mistakes even if they proofread.
Proofreading wouldnt really help this would it? Cp wasnt a typo, they intentionally typed it thinking … well iunno what they were thinking but likely along the lines of " good abbreviation for cyperpunk, really saved some time huh".
Breaking Bad had too much family drama and slow pacing for my taste
Imo, it being slow and very much deep diving into characters is what makes it phenomenal instead of just a shallow action flick.
It’s also a rather litmus test for maturity imo.
I first watched it during University years, and I was very much of the camp that was doing the vicariously living through the power fantasy of Walt’s rise to power and the bitch wife and crying jessie ruining it for him.
I recently, like a year ago as a 31+ year old rewatched it again, and jesus christ what a top to bottom egoistic selfish asshole Walt is, all I did is feel sorry for Skyler and Jessie.

I think knowing where it’s going makes a big difference. Like, first time in going in blind Walt is a sympathetic for the first bit, and for most of the story is dealing with the unintended consequences of raising funds for his treatment. Knowing where it’s going it’s a lot easier to see him in a lot worse light earlier in the story.
It’s the adult Tom&Jerry.
I found the characters very much basic-bitch white bread, but slow burn is like the entire reason it works at all,
Memes are not stolen. Theyre shared.
Is that tweet f a k e ?
I can only imagine the replies & reporting if it’s somehow real
Maybe that specific tweet was fake (or bait), but I do remember it from back then. There was a whole slew of easily misinterpreted posts on all social media around the release of the cyberpunk game and then again around the release of the anime.
Yes BB is good
When was cyberpunk controversial?
It had a buggy launch. Then they fixed it. And they’ve kept fixing it. Making it better all the time. Now there’s a very small yet exceptionally loud contingent of annoying internet shitheads who make their entire personality shitting on Cyberpunk forever.
They had a bug once and now they refuse to play the complete, and exceptionally well polished game. But they’re very very loud about how shit the game still is even though they haven’t played more than 2 hours of it since launch.
Yes there was drama, but I feel like you’re downplaying just how bad they overpromised and underdelivered. As a huge CDPR fan since The Witcher 2, (I even preordered TW3 collectors edition the first day it was available for preorder, even though I usually don’t preorder). That release eroded a lot of the trust I had in them, even though I didn’t preorder this one since I could smell the bs from miles away.
I actually got the game for like 6 bucks on Steam during the last sale and I’m now having a blast playing through the actually stable and release-ready version. But I feel like I can still see the scars of the rushed development on the game’s main story progression. Like, I’m convinced that act 1 was supposed to be much longer and more fleshed out. Because I can’t explain why a game that has quite literally the most immersive dialogue sequences in the entire industry (in a gigantic open world FPS, of all things) would have you watch a montage of you doing a bunch of cool things with a very cool character instead of actually having you playing through them. Also you can’t convince me that montage was literally supposed to be a vertical slice of act 1 but they had to “salvage” it and actually put it 1:1 in the game because they were legally on the hook for releasing it as an early story trailer with a giant “scenes captured in engine” text.
They might go back on the “preorder worthy” list if they can abstain from blowing up the game’s hype to the moon and ride it regardless of the actual state of development. And burning out all their best talent on crunch death marches.
If you mean the game it still is because the developers lied to people to sell more while making an image they are the complete opposite.
If you mean the meme it’s probably because Cyberpunk abbreviation is the same as child porn.
at launch, it was really buggy. people in Lemmy tend to hold one hell of a grudge for some reason
Ahhhhh that
I remember now thanks
About the grudge, yeah that’s a gamer thing
Hey, don’t knock cyberpunk till you try it.
That’s two Breaking Bad memes I’ve seen pop up in as many days, and I hadn’t seen any in years. Just started a rewatch the other week.
Yeah bb is good. Sonis this meme
How do we know this isn’t about someone watching eromanga sensai?
peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 3 weeks ago
Look there are two kinds of people with breaking bad.
Those who loved it, and those who haven’t watched much or any of it.
My ex got me into it, and she’s kind of… Well, shes not brilliant. So I didn’t take her recommendations too seriously most of the time (I really don’t enjoy Teen Mom or 90 day fiance or 600lb life). But this? This show hooked me. It takes quite a few liberties with the sciency bits and lawyer bits, but it’s fun even with a bit of knowledge cause it starts with something being “technically correct.” It’s well written more than anything.

I finished up to season 4, wondering when it was supposed to get good. I know there’s a lot of hype around it, but I guess it just wasn’t for me.
tatterdemalion@programming.dev 2 weeks ago
You gave it a generous amount of your time. I’d say if you don’t like it in the first few episodes it might not be for you. I was hooked almost immediately.
wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
I made it like 3 episides of season 1 before I threw in the towel lol
TheBat@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Season 4 is the best one in my opinion.
sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 weeks ago
I am baffled by your opinion here, can I ask… what was another show, or season of a show that, in your opinion, did ‘get good’?
skisnow@lemmy.ca 2 weeks ago
I mean… I think I know what you’re trying to say, but this seems to imply that you think someone who doesn’t like a show should just carry on watching it anyway
Robust_Mirror@aussie.zone 2 weeks ago
Sometimes that’s true. Not all times. But many shows have a weak season 1 but then get amazing. And you can’t really skip it without losing context.
wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 2 weeks ago
And then there’s my wife, who hated Walter so much midway through she couldn’t watch it anymore.
That was my second watch so not a huge deal to me, but damn she could not stand him.
Contentedness@lemmy.nz 2 weeks ago
I’ve never managed to watch the whole series. There’s great bits but I get super uncomfortable with Walters bumbling, flagrant dishonesty with his wife and family. I get the same thing with a few different shows and I just don’t enjoy it. To the point where I find myself just switching the TV off mid way through a scene and going to do something else without even really thinking about it.
If I had to describe the sensation it would be “extreme toe-curling cringe”.
Revan343@lemmy.ca 2 weeks ago
I had to double take, I read that as ‘second wife’ the first time
HellieSkellie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 weeks ago
I’ve watched the entirety of breaking bad, it’s mid
x4740N@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
I started watching breaking bad but got bored of it and dropped it
It’s not healthy to force yourself to watch a TV show if you get bored of it even if it’s popular
MightyCuriosity@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
I watched all of it and I found it boring and frustrating 99% of the time…
ApathyTree@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 weeks ago
Idk man, as a science communicator, I watched it and thought it sucked. I know enough about any science field to explain to laypeople, but not enough to properly engage experts usually.
It’s not a bad show per se, but it’s a bad show, imho, as far as normal human motivations are concerned. Who gets their shit handled and still risks their whole family’s shit? Like maybe it’s just me but that’s stupid and hard to believe.
Iceblade02@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Honestly from the point where
::: spoiler spoiler Walter was offered to have his entire treatment paid for and turned it down in favour of selling drugs… :::
…he lost all my sympathy. I was increasingly curious about how things were going to go wrong for him. More fascinating train wreck, less investment in him personally.
tomi000@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Wow, I thought we left ‘I am too smart for things everyone likes’ in 2015
sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 weeks ago
… You are saying you find the idea of someone being very reckless and engaging in very risky behavior, for the thrill of the whole thing, to feel more alive than just going through the mundane motions of an average and safe life, to feel powerful, to prove to themselves that they can do something remarkable and be exceptional…
You find this stupid and unrealistic?
Like, I’ll give you that the science of the show has flaws, but like… it is at least fairly within the ballpark for most things, decently detailed with a lot of other things… like, the FCC is not going to let you air a show that provides detailed, accurate instructions on how to cook meth or make a thermite bomb/lance, lol.
But… I don’t get how you find the concept of people being motivated by … whatever in particular it is, to do dangerous things.
The entire point of Walt breaking bad is that… yeah, he had a taste of all that violent and dangerous shit… and he liked it.
At one point, I think the last time he sees his wife, Skyler, Skyler basically asks him why he did all this insane shit… and Walt more or less says, I’m not gonna lie to you, I’m not gonna bs you… “I was good at it.”
His normal life was unfullfilling to him, constantly being disrespected and belittled… and he found and chose a path that granted him the validation and respect he felt he never had.
Yep, that destroyed him and his family and many other people in the end. The whole show is thus a cautionary tale, that even an otherwise meek, intelligent, and generally respectable man can repress much of his true nature, and that if this isn’t consciously addressed and reconciled responsibly, in a healthy way… it can manifest as a transformation into an entirely different person, with different fundamental values and goals.

i watched it all and it was so shit i lost faith in humanity because of how popular it was
MotoAsh@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
That says more about you than you’d ever care to admit.
