Funkwhale is pretty cool to those who use spotify. I love this playlist: open.audio/library/playlists/596

Immediately upon opening the playlist “You sent too many requests and have been ratelimited”
mesamunefire@lemmy.world 1 year ago
We gave it the lemmy hug of death. Its a very small server right now.

Fuck your streaming music and cuck my pirate torrenting flag into your throat. Btw, pls support indie music with your money, buy their album and share them with your friends and circles.
azulavoir@sh.itjust.works 1 year ago
Just bought the Bejeweled 2 soundtrack - probably my favorite album ever
Blackout@kbin.social 1 year ago
Yeah! Fuck you artists! Instead of a pittance provided to you thanks to the music labels you get nothing instead. Music should be free and if they want to make a loving from them they are stupid.
Anafabula@discuss.tchncs.de 1 year ago
Spotify has been like that for years now on mobile devices. At least here in Germany
Jeanschyso@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Oh did they remove the 5 skips per day maximum?
Neat!
LemmyIsFantastic@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Very fair.

I know, lots of services are currently going to shit, but quite the timing with Bandcamp imploding, too…
tkc@feddit.uk 1 year ago
Oh no. What happened with Bandcamp?
Knusper@feddit.de 1 year ago
They got bought out and the new owner laid off 50% of the staff: theguardian.com/…/bandcamp-lays-off-half-its-staf…
Pxtl@lemmy.ca 1 year ago
So, the same as Youtube Music.
KairuByte@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 year ago
Pretty sure all of those still work on YouTube music?

GOT IT

I personally use Stingray music Its free, ads are under 5 seconds if there are any
Lightrider@lemmynsfw.com 1 year ago
Fucking capitalists
GigglyBobble@kbin.social 1 year ago
At least radio is free! I just have to pay a state-sanctioned forced fee and get to hear ads. Wait...
user224@lemmy.sdf.org 1 year ago
But that fee is only for the state-owned radio station(s), no?
original_reader@lemm.ee 1 year ago
What alternatives to Spotify exist? Any recommendations?
Onii-Chan@kbin.social 1 year ago
InnerTune is the best alternative I've found. Uses YouTube music, is free, no account required, and it has a really great UI.
madis@lemm.ee 1 year ago
YouTube clients like NewPipe.
RGB3x3@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I’ve really been enjoying TIDAL after I got frustrated with all the garbage YT music was putting into the app.

I’m a huge fan of Apple Music. I’m an avid flac hoarder but when I learned Apple Music has lossless, I bit.
SomethingBurger@jlai.lu 1 year ago
Deezer

Try ViMusic
BorgDrone@lemmy.one 1 year ago
Another vote for Apple Music. Lossless audio included in the standard plan, the lyrics feature is great as well.
Maajmaaj@lemmy.ca 1 year ago
Spotube. You can sign in with your Spotify account and keep all of your playlists.

I actually moved from another music service (my old ISPs reskin of some music service) to Spotify and I was also worried about losing my stuff from the other platform. My new ISP recommended Soundiiz to transfer stuff. I was skeptical, but it worked! They have a paid service with things like automatic sync, which I didn’t need. That would’ve also gotten rid of some limits, but I couldn’t get payment to work so I used their free tier, which required splitting stuff into 200 item lists because of the free tier limitations, but I could transfer stuff little by little. Soundcloud is one of the services they cover.

The vast majority of the Top 10 songs on Spotify are between 1 and 12 weeks old. Not only are the biggest songs on Spotify newer than the spike is the biggest songs on radio, songs on Spotify typically garner the most streams the week they’re released. if your Spotify account is not working then you should need to try Spotiflyer APP. This is similar to spotify app and also play music ofline.
mrhh69@discuss.tchncs.de 1 year ago
That’s funny, I’m actually working on something similar to what you’re describing. Basically an app that grabs metadata from various music sites (spotify for now), and streams the music for free from youtube.
I found this open-source attempt a while ago (haven’t tried it), but it seems like the maintainer wants to do closed-source stuff now :(

I already canceled and started sailing the high sees.
I’m just looking on from the sidelines to see them burn.
skybreaker@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I mean, it’s radio but you pick every song they play on the station. Still an upgrade
Mac@mander.xyz 1 year ago
I pay for Spotify but my dad has the free version. They don’t even have the ability to queue specific songs. Oof.
Companion1666@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Miss the radios and CDs? Blame record labels.
theKalash@feddit.ch 1 year ago
Thanks record labels!
Companion1666@lemmy.world 1 year ago
You’re welcome, dumdum.
sic_semper_tyrannis@feddit.ch 1 year ago
Just bought a new CD a few weeks ago. I try to own all my music and not stream anything
Companion1666@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Like Blu-rays, own them while you still can.
nto stream anything
Are you commited, 100%? Unless you’re into classics, most releases nowadays are on digital, especially indies. Bandcamp is too good for my taste.
bappity@lemmy.world 1 year ago
no fucking way you have to pay to select specific songs in playlists? 💀
Sygheil@lemmy.world 1 year ago
You dont have to pay for radio receivers just ads for listeners.
Nerrad@lemmy.world 1 year ago
So Spotify couldnt become profitable just by hawking my personal info and invading my privacy? What kinda shit company are they?
unreasonabro@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Spotify would be a good deal at ten times its price, and then maybe they could actually pay people something.
As an artist, though, this shit is infuriating. And as a human being. It’s like I bought a fucking Tesla or something.
Brutticus@lemm.ee 1 year ago
I keep wondering why people even bother with spotify. Like, even on the go, I just pirate these things.
kaboom36@ani.social 1 year ago
I just purchase my music from band camp
cows_are_underrated@feddit.de 1 year ago
Yeah. Ads are so fucking annoying I use spottube on my pc and my downloaded stuff on my phone.
CarlsIII@kbin.social 1 year ago
Literally none of those were options on the radio unless you were recording it (and cassette tapes still cost money.)
EncryptKeeper@lemmy.world 1 year ago
That’s the point

Dude, I thought for a second that the voyager app for Lemmy is showing me this
_stranger_@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Looks like this is India only?
Anafabula@discuss.tchncs.de 1 year ago
The things listed in the screenshot have been like that for years at least here in Germany on mobile devices. I thought it was like that everywhere.
_stranger_@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Ah, I couldn’t find any recent news articles for this, so I was just trying to figure out why this was news to op.
GONADS125@lemmy.world 1 year ago
So glad I have an ancient crack that still works great with no ads and unlimited skips. Transfered that crack along with flappy bird between like 5 phones now.
LinkOpensChest_wav@lemmy.one 1 year ago
Pretty sure those are still around, and there are things like Spotube too
GONADS125@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Oh I wasn’t saying they weren’t still around. Harder to find a clean apk tho.

Why do companies feel compelled to punish people who use their free product?
Companies don’t exist out of generosity. When Spotify looses money from non-premium users, they obviously want to encourage you to buy premium. They probably had to make the decision to play more ads or do this and decided that this makes more sense
FrostKing@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Another lost of reasons to use YouTube music. Not that they don’t have the right, or good reasons to do this, but the free experience is much better over here. Especially if you use an app like Innertune
Borkingheck@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Oh sheesh I hipe this doesn’t change on the Web browser.

@alphacyberranger This is why I still use my 160GB iPod Touch + Soulseek
