Oh my gawd it’s best thing. Hospital was insane but very interesting and by the time I got home I was feeling pretty awesome… my boss told me to not think about work and that he set me up for a leave of absence I still get paid for with HR. I’m treasuring every day.

Oh dear… I was in hospital a few weeks ago and I’ve been recovering at home. In the last two weeks I’ve manly played three games: 64 hours in the first, 50 hours in the second, and 10 hours in the third (that one was all in one day)
I’d never use a thing like GeForce Now either way, but I’d be boned hahaha

Supporting giant evil DOES sometimes get you free stuff… I know folks who have accidentally been shipped multiple of what they’re ordering (in two cases, the items were quite expensive) and when they’ve brought it up, they were told to keep the extras.
Maybe not worth the evil, but hey, free stuff is cool.
- Comment on Apple announces more ads are coming to App Store search results 1 week ago:
I love my iPhone, I’ve been using them for like 12 years (I loved Android but switched when physical keyboards stopped exiting cuz I liked iOS’s keyboard a lot, then fell in love with most of the rest of the OS and how long I could keep my phone for before replacing.)
The one thing I absolute hate is the App Store. It’s insane. It’s so counter to the rest of Apple’s “simple stuff that works” … “ethos”. I use VERY few apps, I only have a couple installed on my phone. Say I want one, though. I open the App Store right now. Main page it dumps me on: 75% of the screen is a Tinder ad (I’ve never used a dating app and I’ve been with my partner for 15 years.) The rest of the screen space below that is a Google Gemini ad (I don’t use any Google products or services anymore, wtf Apple?)
I click on the “Games” tab below and it’s an EXTREMELY busy, loud, colorful assault on my senses. Absolutely not! The “Apps” tab isn’t any better, huge ads take up 50% of the screen and below that, GET TIKTOK AND TINDER. Uhhhh no, never.
Okay, let’s go to search. Click, and it gives me a search box at the bottom with some suggested apps and games I might like. I can appreciate that Apple’s data collection is allegedly a lot lighter than other companies, because none of the suggested shit is anything I would ever touch in my life. Let’s download one of the very few games I have on my phone: Ascension, a deck building game. I type “ascension game” and the first result is an AD FOR A WEIRD MEDICAL APP THAT DOESN’T SAY ASCENSION ANYWHERE AND HAS 70 REVIEWS WHYYYYY?!
An absolute mess compared to the mostly great layouts of their other programs on the iPhone. I do not love the latest iPhoto UI change but I can deal with that. The App Store is fucked.

I’ve used heaps of typewriters. My mum had an antique one when I was growing up that still worked and I loved it.

Return to Arms was everything Norrath was, better! It totally still holds up today! Tons of QoL improvements, especially when you have 3-4 people trying to use the store at the same time hahaha. I loved being able to easily switch from shield to throwing weapon, too.
- Comment on What are your favourite ps2 multiplayer games? 4 weeks ago:
Champions of Norrath and Champions: Return to Arms were fucking STELLAR for local co-op. I never see them mentioned. I should bust out my PS2 and go through a run of each with my partner.

As an avid KBM user, I played through “Returnal” with a Dualsense on my computer and wouldn’t recommend any other way! It uses the Dualsense’s triggers and haptics and it’s definitely made for controller play. I loved the game and would fully recommend it.

- Comment on Our first look at the Steam Machine, Valve’s ambitious new game console 1 month ago:
It sort of is… I collect consoles, I have everything from the 2600 to PS3/Wii/360. I quit after that because the XBone and PS4 were just horrible shitty PCs that ran games like garbage and had insane load times. I like the newest XBox and PS5, but I’m done collecting consoles forever because they’re just locked down PCs now. The Steam Machine is a console for computer game players with MUCH LESS locked down OS than a PlayStation or XBox and I love that idea very much. I have four high-end computers for games at my house (maybe five, one is old but still works great with linux) and I would still consider a Steam Machine in my house as another first computer… but it does really taste like a console (in a good way)

BTC is best and I do have some, but I didn’t get into LLMs, no use case for me at this point. But I think VR is in a completely different bucket. VR was so fucking awesome for my partner and myself to chill out in with our friends in 2020 when we couldn’t go out and see peeps. It’s also easily the best most fun form of exercise.

Good on you for no longer fuckin with it. My partner and I drink too much but otherwise are mainly sober from substances—we just have some random special days every couple months where we do something fancy and fun.
