- Comment on Great ATProto blog post on the reasoning behind their design architecture 1 day ago:
ATProto isnt the same protocol as activityhub which is what we are using to post/communicate between different instances.
You would argue that its all REST I suppose?
- Comment on What features are missing from piefed, or, why aren't we reccommending piefed instead of lemmy? 1 day ago:
If it can get apps, ill probably be more on it.
I love you lemmy.world but I would rather like to run my own piefed.

Its an interesting field! I think the reason we have not gone there is the LLM specific models all have very different models/languages/etc… right now. So the algorithms that create them and use them need flexibility. GPUs are very flexible with what they can do with tier multiprocessing.
But in 5 years (or less) time, I can see a black box kinda system that can run 1000x+ speed that will make GPU LLMs obsolete.

Its free and planning to stay free. So you can try it out right now if you want. Its a silly premise game.

The only thing that will beat free is convenience.
If you can make it somehow more convianant to use the other alternatives, you may have more luck.
Other than that, you may have to just bite the bullet and stop using it altogether. Be the change you want to see.
We have had good luck with irc, XMPP, and Matrix .

I wonder how much we really need for a clock (555 eq) to work?

Meh I like some of the others on hugging face a bit more for coding and such. But its all the same at the end of the day. I do like what you are saying though!
Models + moderate power should be what we strive for. I’m hoping for a star trek ending where we live in a post scarcity world. Im planing on a post apocalypse haha.
Once ASIC chips come out (essentially a specific model on a chip) the amount of power we use will be dramatically less.
- Comment on Most Americans think AI won’t improve their lives, survey says 1 day ago:
Yep you can run models without giving $$ to tech billionaires!
Now we are giving it to the power billionaires! unless you own your own power sources.

Yeah best we have right now is subscribing to the lemmy/piefed communities like /c/peertube and seeing what you like. For better or for worse, there is no algorithm. Moreso in peertube than others.

Woo another one!
So many good games are coming out on the coat tails of the switch 2. And a majority of them work with the steam deck.

Yep that would be nice! Yunohost can make it pretty easy to install for those of us who self host. Plus this is the fediverse. Totally agree!
- Comment on YouTube removes 'gender identity' from hate speech policy 2 days ago:
Thats a good question.
No it still allows you to see their videos, it just does not create a copy. Its just a passthough.
EX:
- …abnormalbeings.space/…/k7oGP4hkGWMx2oJxpw6KUd which is being passed though
- Comment on YouTube removes 'gender identity' from hate speech policy 2 days ago:
The server itself has the option to turn that off or on. And most dont turn that on. Its off by default.
Source: I host a peertube instance.

I want more ports! Stardew on a small console like that is a dream.

Ive tried a couple of times, ended up bricking a phone and had to re-do another. Linux phones are hard to get set up (for certain models).

I’m not sure if the hard requirement of using openai is good for an open source projects. It requires a somewhat hidden closed source source for the main functionality.

Yep I got one too. Works great and self hosted. I swear its actually faster than GH is nowadays.
And I like that it doesn’t try to advertise and recommend a ton of repos to do you like GH does now.
