I tried that but it got downvoted. Hackaday had a great article but people don’t like it for some reason.

Lol so what happens if all your online stuff is automated?
That means no mare ads.
Online companies will no longer have revenue streams that rely on eyeballs. Probably another subscription service…

- Comment on Why is the price of real estate rising so dramatically? 2 weeks ago:
In my area:
- My area is a relatively Low cost of living area surrounded by people that have money. When they want to work remote but still stay in the same state, some % come east for cheap housing. They can pay cash for houses.
- Corporations are buying houses, then renting. Less houses on the market. They also pay cash for houses.
- People with multiple houses can use the aforementioned houses to buy up more housing to rent, creating a investment loop. Its in their best interest to keep the houses as small businesses/revenue streams.
- There are apps that hook into MLS (example: www.mlslistings.com/more/mobile-app/) which means investors can make an offer faster than the general public or set up alerts (think stock market) that hook into the API. Ever wonder why some houses get multiple offers before or right after they are listed? This only works if the company/entity selling the property decides to add in the info into MLS and not just go with the defaults.
- More people are alive today than yesterday. They need housing. There are less houses getting built, or being built for owning. For renting: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrxZqPVFTag
Source: Used to work for a company that did this sort of buy/selling of properties.

If you find out, let me know…or post? Cause ive been looking for something like that for years in the software development side. The most consistent has been google translate…but its not the greatest API and expensive for anything other than corps. Most sites are just looking to make sure they meet requirements, thats it.

True. I modified my comment.
Theres a mix of tools that look like they are useful in someway. Or just neat and ive never head of them.

I mean software development as a whole, probably. Just knowing how to code in a somewhat larger org can open up job opportunities later on.
Fediverse specific…probably not. My cynical side thinks that most lose money/spend much more than we take in from the fediverse. Most projects are just passion projects with very little budget. But dont believe me, try it out! I want to be wrong on this.

- Comment on Why do cell phones have a data limit but home internet doesn't? 2 weeks ago:
Yep. And to add to your statement, its probably to make torrenters/massive downloaders pay or curtail their activities. Then streaming came along, voice chat, etc… that both helped us entertain ourselves and work within the home from the pandemic. If people didn’t have unlimited plans, they would switch ASAP because it was no longer a want, it became a need.

I like the way the Steam Deck uses it. Just pops you into the game. Multiplayer games will kick you but its game specific.
- Comment on Rivals of Aether II Official Launch Trailer 2 weeks ago:
The demo was a lot of fun. My wife and I played a bit. Plays more like smash brothers with grabs than the first game. It feels a tiny bit slower, which is fine. The have a mode where you can see replays in detail, frames/hitboxes/etc… The roster of characters are a bit small, but the first game started that way too.

- Comment on Why do cell phones have a data limit but home internet doesn't? 2 weeks ago:
Home internet did happen to have a limit in most places prior to the pandemic (at least in California). It was one of the big quiet changes that occurred. For example, ATT used to have 150GB limit about 5 years ago but it kept getting bumped up.

- Comment on Companies are finding new ways to monetize personal data, too often without proper notice or consent. ICYMI, three current examples that you may want to act on to opt out: PayPal, LinkedIn and 23andMe 3 weeks ago:
I told LinkedIn to opt me out. They told me to send a message to another department. Did it and it still says I’m in on the program. So I went and removed most of my data. I’m planning on getting rid of the account soon. I’ve never reviewed a job from LinkedIn in the entire time I was on the platform. What am I even doing on it? I can manage my own network much better than they can. And their jobs are all AI mining operations it feels like.

Any examples of users?
You can fork lemmy and create the feature yourself if you want. I believe it uses postgres on the official docs so in theory should be “easy” (famous last words). Im not aware of any plugin or filtering like that.
