(citation needed) Seriously there are zero sources, numbers and article ends with a typical interaction bait. As a Turkish person who knows the Turkish shiftdelete I was almost happy that they have an English version for global market but not this tabloid like junk.

Downloads doesn’t mean usage. I really hope it happens one day but it isn’t currently the case. We need governments, politicians and media to wake up.
halfempty@kbin.social 1 year ago
Xwitter is a Nazi hate cesspool. I deleted my account not long after Musk took over. I would be delighted to see it fail, and Musk brought down a few notches.
m13@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I’d also like to see him brought down a few notches… like down to the bottom of the Mariana Trench in a leaky submarine.
elskertesla@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I use X pretty much daily and I have no idea where you are getting this from. Haven’t seen a single nazi post.
Gestrid@lemmy.ca 1 year ago
Honestly, same. I’ve seen a severe decline in post quality, but no nazi posts.
Ydna@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Your feed is much cleaner than the ones I see, that’s for sure. I usually attribute it to being a moderate, since I see fringe nonsense on either end.
Fisk400@feddit.nu 1 year ago
I feel like your username suggests a bias on the subject.
kSPvhmTOlwvMd7Y7E@lemmy.world 1 year ago
That’s 30% less downloads, not 30% less traffic . I am not sure how that translates to current users.
Saneless@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Good question…
There’s always some background noise in installs. People get new devices constantly and they’d usually download it again. Those are fewer
Then there’s usually some consistent downloads from new users. Those are probably down
Traffic being down is a good measure and that’s dropping too
jarfil@lemmy.world 1 year ago
If it counts updates, that would mean 30% fewer people have the app installed.
bfaliszek@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Or X don’t pushed any new update in last month 😉
FiftyShadesOfLatte@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I would like to formally invite everyone to Mastodon.
Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Everyone? Like, even the nazis? Because there seem to be an awful lot of them on xitter.
Plopp@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Sure, they can be on their defederated lil nazi instance.

“According to a report published by popular research companies”
I’d like to know to whom “popular research companies” refers, and by what means they’re measuring “losing 30% of users”.
111@zerobytes.monster 1 year ago
stopthatgirl7@kbin.social 1 year ago
Thank you for that link, because I was also feeling like this article was being pretty sketchy by not giving any links or sources.
Isoprenoid@programming.dev 1 year ago
You haven’t heard of “Dude” and “Trust me, bro”? They’re incredibly popular research companies.
systemglitch@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Is he doing this on purpose? He has to be right? What’s the end goal? Was his only goal to destroy Twitter? It’s fascinating
CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 1 year ago
Never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence.
bradv@lemmy.ca 1 year ago
Does that axiom really apply to billionaires?
TwoGems@lemmy.world 1 year ago
gizmodo.com/twitter-saudi-arabia-x-jack-dorsey-ar…
Probably bought it to kill some democracies (USA included) since people seem easy to brainwash
MysticKetchup@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Well he only ended up buying Twitter because he was forced to when he tried to back out after signing a contract. If he’s stupid enough to do that he’s stupid enough to ruin the platform through sheer incompetence. That being said, killing Twitter basically helps out him/his financers so I’d suspect at least some of it is on purpose.
Skkorm@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Yeah I’ve stopped using Xwitter entirely. Musk is an idiot capitalist who ruins everything he touches.
NoiseColor@startrek.website 1 year ago
I tried to use it to follow people in crypto but even many of those who stayed are now retweeting right wing conspiracy theories and anti science articles. Twitter is a disgusting hole of hate.
DevCat@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I just couldn’t have seen this coming. /s
Combine it with this:
asunaspersonalasst@lemmy.world 1 year ago
And they keep on trying to inflate the userbase with bot accounts whose bios are weird and mostly contain suspicious links, amd use those same bots to randomly like anyone’s new
poststweets.KevonLooney@lemm.ee 1 year ago
I think they’re pronounced “skeets” now (xeets)

reddig33@lemmy.world 1 year ago
That’s ok, they’ll make up for it by adding 30% more bits.
SnowdenHeroOfOurTime@unilem.org 1 year ago
How the fuck is this number not higher?
nudnyekscentryk@szmer.info 1 year ago
My exact though at first. Then I remembered probably half of all Xitter accounts are ghost anyway. Which makes 30% overall decrease equivalent to 60% decrease within active users.
Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 year ago
You have already applied as much reason as the entire article, and also given as much hard data and sources. In fact, reading your comment is probably worth more than the article.
Robdor@lemmy.world 1 year ago
How the fuck is this technology?
Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I agree completely that it shouldn’t be, but Twitter and Facebook/Meta are considered tech companies.
Yes Meta has some tech today, but they were considered a tech company from the beginning, merely for being on the Internet!!!
IMO That’s like considering a baker a tech company, because they have a cash register with buttons. But that’s the world we live in.
Dremor@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Inertia. Give it more time.
Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Also bots. Bots don’t have ethics or intolerance, so the people running them have no reason to stop.
Declamatie@mander.xyz 1 year ago
Rest of the site is probably bots
chickenfish@lemmy.world 1 year ago
my usage tanked a lot when he took over, but it’s more or less done for good when tweetdeck went premium. I check in on one account now, and occasionally still bitch at customer service accounts. Other than that, Im at mastodon and bluesky.
Engywuck@lemm.ee 1 year ago
Same. I have deleted all my tweets/likes/follows and keep the account just as a way to reach customer service accounts (which usually work much better on Twitter/X than by phone/email).
ViewSonik@lemmy.world 1 year ago
That is becauae it is a far-right, nazi website. Boycott all companies that use that site or advertise on it
FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I don’t think I need to buy gold or boner pills though.
Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 year ago
According to a report published by popular research companies,
Yeah I smell bullshit. I suspect it’s going pretty badly for the thing formerly known as Twitter, but this article doesn’t show anything, but merely makes a bunch of claims.
111@zerobytes.monster 1 year ago
Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Thank way better article.
the app’s downloads fell by almost 30% compared with the preceding two months,
Very different from losing 30% of users the OP headline claims.
BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Deleted mine even though I actually only used it to read some accounts. It’s unfortunate because there’s some very knowledgeable people there but I’m not having anything to do with that dickbag.
techgearwhips@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I’m one of them
MataVatnik@lemmy.world 1 year ago
That’s actually a lot. I didn’t think it would be that much. I try not to give into hype but if these numbers are true this might actually be Twitter dying. There is also no going back with some of the decisions elon made.
Endorkend@kbin.social 1 year ago
That's not actually a lot.
This 30% comes after at least as high a percentage already left in the half year after the narcissistic sociopath took over.
Pretty much everyone I was subbed to was already gone, either account closed or inactive, by the time I closed my account.
And my Twitter account was almost as old as my Gmail account. I accrued a rather substantial list of people I followed through the past nearly 2 decades.
MataVatnik@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Damn, that’s even worse! Holy crap
SqueezeMeMacaroni@thelemmy.club 1 year ago
I haven’t deleted my account but it’s been dormant for a while. I guess at some point it’ll get deleted if I don’t touch it, which… fine, I guess.
oldbaldgrumpy@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I think of Twitter , or X, does go away everyone’s mental health will improve.
very_well_lost@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Hopefully Elon will buy Facebook and Instagram next.
Fapper_McFapper@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Tik tok and Reddit could use some of Musk’s management as well. Although I think Spez has a good handle on the enshitification of Reddit.
BeautifulMind@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Y’know, I had a love/hate relationship to twitter in the before-elon times.
On the one hand, it was a strange, toxic brew of hellish nonsense and porn On the other hand, there was a critical mass of engaged experts on lots of subjects, weighing in on current events in near-real-time.
It was like having the history faculty of several colleges on hand when historical questions came up, but in order to get their takes on anything you’d have to wade through trolls and bots and fascist sycophants to get there.
I’m a sucker for learning things and I’ll put up with a lot for the pleasure of feeding my brain but by the time Elon took the reigns the signal:noise ratios had gone too far negative to be worth it.
Olap@lemmy.world 1 year ago

How long before he starts asking the government for a bailout. Is Twitter to big to fail?
ME5SENGER_24@lemm.ee 1 year ago
70% to go!!
nucleative@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I am a Twitter “user” in the sense that I read the site for a few minutes every few days to see the latest news or drama.
Recently all the Elon drama is boring. So I’m in that decreased user count.
just_another_person@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Musk: “Totally internal, everyone. This is exactly what I planned for. I am, however, going to sure the US Government for allowing freedom of the press to report it.”
Jordan117@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I’m all for shitting on Xitter, but this is a pretty bad article. It’s written like somebody put it through Google Translate a few times, and doesn’t cite any sources for any of its claims. Closest I could find was this Business Insider story on a report by Apptopia, which only says that its downloads in various app stores declined 30%, not its overall userbase.
Nerrad@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Yes the article is junk. Yet it feeds my confirmation bias in a pleasing way.
Mudface@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Hey bro, Twitter sucks!
(I hope that helps too)
phillaholic@lemm.ee 1 year ago
Un-fact checked, poorly seemingly AI written, citing no sources? So you’re saying it’s perfect for Twitter?
nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 1 year ago
And every other link sharing site unfortunately. Lemmy included.
RocketBoots@programming.dev 1 year ago
I haven’t had the chance to look up the data myself, but if downloads did decline in a way that’s unprecedented its a strong loss leader.
drdabbles@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Declining downloads simply means a slowing of growth, whereas this is claiming a user decline. That only shows up in traffic logs, transit commits, or CDN account usage data.
onparole@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Imagine paying 40 billion for it too. The moron is so disconnected, I hope he gets butt cancer.
Custoslibera@lemmy.world 1 year ago
You mean I got my pitchfork out for nothing?
Guess I’ll put it away…
macrocephalic@lemmy.world 1 year ago
I was thinking the same thing. I couldn’t figure out if it was AI or translated (or both).
TenderfootGungi@lemmy.world 1 year ago
Downloads did plummet after the name change. But likely because non-tech nerds have no idea the name changed.
