So this started coming up today. On every video. I can (so far) click the “x” and remove it to watch (still see 2 ads before the video, and one after 4 minutes - ruins music on YT), but did click the “Report issue” only for the dialogue box not to work.
I found a link to a that said 11% use adblock. Thats not a lot.Maaayyyybe there is a problem with the amount of ads youtube forces down our throats for even short videos. 🤷♂️
It’s really great when you put on some calming music for sleep that’s 8 hours long and has an ad break every 5 minutes.
How dare you complain about their aggressive monetization practices, won’t you think of the record corporate profits.

I thought YouTube posters could choose if their video is monetized. Isn’t this kinda on the person who posted it?
That setting is now only available to accounts that meet certain criteria (subscribers, views, whatever), or so I’ve heard. Depending on the videos you frequent, they may or may not meet those criteria.
And yes, this means that if you’re a small channel Google can force you to show ads without giving you any of the revenue.
I guess so as I have found others with no ads.
You need a certain amount of watch time over the previous year. I have 2k subs and can’t even get half of the required watch time, my videos show ads I cannot turn off

I’ve heard Firefox’s inbuilt tracking protection often trips whatever detection method they’re using.

The best 3rd party YouTube interface is called PeerGhastly.
NewPipe has been my go-to for years. Available on F-Droid with regular updates.
There’s a few options
Newpipe, uses it’s own extractor, also can act as a player for SoundCloud and Peertube, there’s also a fork with SponsorBlock: newpipe.net
Libretube, uses the Piped api, generally seen as the one with the best UI: github.com/libre-tube/LibreTube
Clipious, uses the Invidious api: github.com/lamarios/clipious
Could also watch videos in a browser from an Invidious or Piped instance I guess

The equivalence the person is drawing is something like what Denuvo does on PC. Games that ship with Denuvo suffer significant performance issues but when Denuvo is cracked and put on the high seas, they don't come with Denuvo so the pirates end up having a better experience.

If blocking ads is piracy, then billboards and junk mail are larceny. It goes both ways.
It is a false positive as Googlie tries to find a way to detect and block adblockers on browsers they don't control. install ublock origin and it should solve the issue.
Nope. It happens with ublock origin too.
I believe Ublock has patched this now, you can update to the newest version and reset the extension and it should work.
Then you need to remove your custom profile and update to the latest version.
Here’s something that I “don’t allow” Google:
Letting corporations use MY computer equipment and MY Internet connect to conduct their business. I’ll block whatever I want and if Google and YouTube don’t like it, they can take their advertising machine, roll it up real tight and cram it.
To put it another way, a shitty business model on their part does not constitute an obligation on yours.

I get most of the content I want via patreon anyway now.
So, you already pay for an ad-free experience and they still want you to turn off ad-block so they can track you more efficiently. That’s vile.
Ublock Origin and SponsorBlock and Enhancer for YouTube will make the YouTube experience SO MUCH better!
Ublock blocks ads, SponsorBlock blocks sponsorship deals that the YouTuber includes (Clash of clans, Norton, etc), and Enhancer lets you play with the settings on a whole other level, including blocking things like end cards.
Those end cards suck, though it’s usually the creator’s fault. Put them where there is no content at the end, not when I’m still waiting for the punchline!

Seems to still be working for me. At least I haven’t encountered any notices yet.
I’m ok with In-video sponsors though. You can always skip them (unlike YouTube ads) and the money goes straight to the content creator.
It does skip them, just automatically.
Plus you can skip intros, outros, and about a dozen of other things.
I had no idea Sponsor Block was available as an FF addon. Any idea if it works on FF mobile?
FF mobile currently has a very selected list of available extensions, which does not include it yet.
But that’s about to change before the end of the year. FF mobile is finally opening up add on usability and distribution.

Not through the official firefox mobile. Maybe you can get it to work with firefox nightly, but I haven’t tested myself.
But I can recommend Libretube or Newpipe X sponsorblock x return youtube dislike. If you haven’t installed Fdroid I can recommend that as well. It functions as an appstore (Like the PlayStore), and you can find/upgrade the apps through there. Otherwise you may find the apks manually on github
Though luck if you’re on iOS, bur I assume you’re on Android.

Happened to me, I just blocked the notification objects. Still let me play videos so far. I have firefox + ublock.
I made a user script that will make a button on each video which jump you to piped, that way you can continue to use YT to manage your subscriptions and see your feed, but you never have to watch to video there

Got that too (Firefox and ublock origin). So far i can just click the X and continue to watch without ads. Pops up about every third video.

I use a Firefox extension to redirect any YouTube links to open in Ungoogled Chromium, which so far seems to be immune to Google’s anti-Adblock campaign.

I cant afford things like apple products. Amazon has driven the price down for me on a fair few things. As much as I hate the company and the man behind it I cant always afford to go to some other store. Thankfully I dont buy much stuff.
It doesn’t matter your browser or adblocker, Youtube is cracking down in ALL adblocker. Adblockers are probably going to find a way around it, it’s a cat chasing the mouse game.

Do you have Firefox’s tracker blocking enabled? That can block some advertising related code and as such will also get detected as an adblocker. I’ve had that be the issue for other websites that block ad blockers in the past before I stopped being willing to ever turn Ublock Origin off.
Somehow you’re using something that Google thinks it’s an adblock. Maybe it’s a cookie blocker or tracking blocker. Disable all plugins and then try YouTube.
Are you using a VPN? I get messages like that with Surfshark.

Their detection script is probably trying so hard that it hits false positives.
Ironically, with an up-to-date uBlock Origin, you wouldn’t see this popup.

It really is given that they’ve willingly entered a game of cat and mouse and chosen to assume the role of a blind, limbless mouse.
As others have said before me, I feel for the poor engineers who have to implement this stuff as any technical solution short of DRM is provably impractical and unworkable.
