There are dinosaurs right outside my window right now. I think they might be nesting, one is collecting sticks while the other is hopping across the lawn to look for worms.

There’s five million ants for every human, should they decide to fuck us up, they will.
- Comment on Evolution isn't linear. 6 months ago:
How is horizontal gene transfer between microbes in any way relevant to a discussion about the ancestry of chickens that only reaches back to the dinosauria clade?
- Comment on Evolution isn't linear. 6 months ago:
Chicken is equally close to T. Rex as all other birds. They all go back to the same common bird-ancestor who was a relative of T. Rex.
T. rex is more closely related to birds than to all non-theropod dinosaurs.
T. rex also lived closer to us in time than to Stegosaurus.
Same reason why humans don’t actually descend from monkeys, both monkeys and humans descend instead from a common ancestor that no longer exists
But that ancestor was a monkey! We are monkey, you can’t evolve your way out of a clade.
This is why, IMO, Digimon could be a better representation of evolution than Pokémon, since one Digimon can evolve into many different forms, so that kitten could become a fridge, but also a dragon or a knight with cannons
But that is specifically not how evolution works. You can’t evolve your way out of a clade, everything a cat would evolve into, would also be a cat. Maybe a weird cat, maybe a whale-cat (like whales are still ungulates, even if they are really weird ones) but still a cat. You can’t evolve out of your ancestry.

That is extremely cool and I don’t doubt your expertise in the slightest. Was only commenting about that anoxic conditions alone wouldn’t necessarily preserve the bog mummies, but that the acidic conditions and tannins are likely more important.
- Comment on This is at Jorvik Viking Center. 7 months ago:
Well the human gut is anoxic too, so that shouldn’t be a problem for the gut-bacteria in that log and in the bog mummies. I think it way more likely that the sphagnan and the other tannins in peat-bog-water conserved this as well as the bog bodies.

Not everywhere, mostly that’s a thing in the US (which is a pretty shitty society when it comes to how they treat their ex-cons and consequently to re-offending-rates) or with jobs where the past could have an impact (for example if you are to work in law enforcement)

Breathing is at least 150k a year, that’s more than enough, even after taxes and has me covered when I’m old and can’t go for a walk anymore.
I don’t need more, I’d rather enjoy my quiet time and taking an walk and standing still for a while at a nice vista, enjoying the view. I don’t need the constant chase for money and even more money in my life and the stress of having to keep moving to get even more. When I walk at the beach with my better half, I’d rather think of how nice this is rather than how much this earns me.
- Comment on How many of you actually use the headphone jack on your phone? 11 months ago:
Every. Single. Day.
My cars bluetooth is broken, so I connect my phone via headphone jack. This way I can still use my cars speakers and mic to receive phone calls and listen to music or audiobooks on my one hour drive to work.
I also despise bluetooth headphones. My phones batteries last longer since I don’t use bluetooth anymore and I can’t be bothered to not lose them and always have them charged when I want to use them.
With my good wired Bose headphones I pay a third of what the wireless crap would cost, have better sound and they are always ready, easily to take care of and at worst slightly tangled from being crammed into a jeans pocket.

Yeah well, one can be anti-oppression and anti-apartheid as well as anti-terror, anti-killing-civilians, anti-bombing-hospitals, anti-using-civilians-as-shields, anti-hostage-taking and anti-warcrimes.
The israeli Government is not the only one with blood on their hands and while nothing can excuse what the IDF is doing, nothing can excuse what HAMAS is doing too.
Both sides fucking suck, the only difference I can see is that HAMAS is bad for Israelis and Palestinians moreso than the Israeli Government is for Israelis.

Everyone underestimates how HEAVY the collider is, how often sensor modules need to be changed and mainly that the ring is just one part of the entire group of big buildings you need for this.
You need to create different beams of different makeup from different sources, different loops to make the beam hit sonething and maybe return the products into the loop, you need extensive sensory equipment where the collision happens and different sensors for different experiments.
It is just SOOOO much cheaper, easier and better to build it underground instead of in space.
