It doesn’t count if it costs money, which mail does.
- Comment on Gearbox founder says Epic Games Store hopes were “misplaced or overly optimistic” 1 month ago:
I resolved to never give Epic a dime when I got a popup forcing me to agree to a binding arbitration agreement in order to launch games I already have installed and in my library. It tells me that they think people will have good reasons to sue them in the future.
- Comment on Google is no longer asking — feed the AI or you’re not in search results 1 month ago:
All I’m trying to say is that they’re not necessarily doing the same thing now that they were back then. They’d have a strong motivator to be better than google nowadays instead of just copying their results because google’s results suck now.
- Comment on Google is no longer asking — feed the AI or you’re not in search results 1 month ago:
This is funny, but it was also 13 years ago. A lot can change in that time. I don’t personally use Bing though, so I don’t have firsthand experience either way.

I think you’re giving humans too much credit. If our future ends up going down that path, the people raking in profits will never give up their power and the government won’t force them.

We need to make it illegal to charge different people different amounts of money for the same service based on any criteria other than a poverty discount and a senior discount.

It’s because what happens post-singularity is dramatic and flashy, but what’s happening now is depressing and boring. AI is being used and will continue to be used to oppress people and extract as much value from them as possible, but post-singularity AI might launch all the nukes!
In all likelihood, post-singularity AI will probably just do what current AI does to screw people over, but even better.

If he likes making simple games, consider introducing him to Scratch. It’s not monetized at all and last I checked, was much better moderated than other online platforms for kids.
- Comment on YouTube tests server-side ads to make your coveted blocker obsolete 2 months ago:
It’s illegal not to disclose when something is paid promotion. Worst case scenario, the ad blocker blacks out your screen while it detects the ad notification and auto skips when it can. We’ll never actually be forced to watch the ads.
- Comment on Genocide apologists deciding if they can counter a Wojak meme by accusing the poster of antisemitism 2 months ago:
Idk the context of whatever the complaint is, but I just want to point out that people’s noses always look way bigger when you take closeup photos of them. It’s because the nose protrudes out from the face, so from a normal distance it’s just a little bit closer to the camera, but from close up the proportional distance difference and therefore apparent visual size of the nose is massive. If your nose looks big in a photo, re-take it from further away.

Oh yeah, maybe it was a package deal and they only really cared about the training data.
- Comment on Google Is the Only Search Engine That Works on Reddit Now Thanks to AI Deal 2 months ago:
I don’t get why Google would agree to pay for anything. Google can survive without Reddit, but Reddit will be hurt without Google and would eventually be forced to give in. Where’s that corporate greed when you need it?

Why do you feel the need to make such statements regarding the motivation without any source or evidence to back them up?

Friendly reminder that Donald Trump LOST the popular vote in 2016 and was illegitimately put into power by the rogue electoral college. His presidency should never have happened.

If Microsoft was a smaller company, this would completely ruin them and the next headline would be them declaring bankruptcy after failing to fight off 50,000 lawsuits. Fortunately for them, laws don’t apply to companies their size.

Can they really sue (with a chance of winning) if you scrape content that’s submitted by users? That’s insane.
- Comment on Windows 10 reaches 70% market share as Windows 11 keeps declining 5 months ago:
You should tell them that if users love ads so much, you should add a slider to let people control how many ads they get. Surely they’ll only increase the ad count, right?

That’s why I’d sign out ASAP if they made the announcement. It’d also definitely light a fire under my ass to start switching things to ProtonMail.

That’s why you let them think they lost a bunch of money for a few moments before giving it all back and tell them you love them, but that not everyone loves them in the same way and that real bankers won’t be so kind.
- Comment on It's important to get a good interest rate 5 months ago:
I think this may not be a bad way to teach kids the dangers of compound interest, but only if you refund the excess interest afterwards because actually tricking your kid into draining their bank account in interest is a dick move.

Well, I would just keep watching without signing in, then. Losing out on recommendations would be mildly annoying, but I could still access my subscription feed by being signed in on one window and copying video links to another one where I’m not.

My concern is that this race to the bottom is so that they can intentionally become unsustainable due to ad blockers. From there, they may be able to get Congress to ban ad blocking altogether.
