Fucking Peter literally creating the very thing he scorns.
16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

They’re trying to force it to happen. They somehow think they’ll be spared any only the people they hate will have to suffer.

If people cared about “the children” they wouldn’t let them on the Internet until they were 21.
oxysis@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 month ago
I don’t think that’s the solution though, kids (including teens to some extent) can be on the internet but it requires better parenting. It’s better to monitor what they are doing online until they are like 15 or 16, maybe 17 if you have a really good reason too. Limit screen time, be around to answer questions your kid has about what they might see.
Little kids though? Absolutely should be off the internet. Anyone under 10 shouldn’t be on the internet period in my opinion. 10-12 is kinda a gray zone to me where it’s definitely up to the parents and if they think their child is ready.
oxysis@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 month ago
Also since they weren’t allowed on the internet till they were 21, those 21 year olds won’t know how to act on the internet. So now there’s 21 year olds roaming around who will need to figure all that shit out. They might get other aspects of being an adult but the internet will be completely alien.
It’s like when I saw people saying kids shouldn’t be allowed into the grocery store because someone was annoyed that kids didn’t know how to behave there yet. You just create a new and larger problem where adults don’t know how to act.
tburkhol@lemmy.world 1 month ago
My nephew has a new baby. Her parents are constantly waving their phones in her face; sending pics back and forth; generally doing ‘millenial things’ with their phones when not actively attending the baby. Then proceed to get all freaked out when the baby expresses interest or curiosity in the phone.
Kids mimic their parents behavior and interests. If you want kids with healthy internet use, you have to have parents model healthy internet use.

It is far more complicated. The brain develops slowly while social media provides constant dopamine hits leading to doom scrolling and the part of the brain that is tasked with hitting the brakes is just not there
freeman@sh.itjust.works 1 month ago
People 18 and over are adults. I know the US somehow forbids adults from drinking but I don’t think more countries should dilute people’s rights.
Virtvirt588@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Even if op’s case was satirical, it is quite ageist honestly. It is the difference between freedom and submission. In addition, op is also extremely wrong, as development continues till 35+, so such outdated statements about development are actually sickening.
eli@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Yeah, we should also ban anyone under 25 from voting too! Brain isn’t fully developed! Reeeee!
Mangoholic@lemmy.ml 1 month ago
And anyone over 50, brain is barely functional after 30 years of propaganda.
Imaginary_Stand4909@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 month ago
That mentality is why teenage pregnancies happen. “Oh, just don’t do it kids! Sex is bad! Sex is only for adults!”
Schools and parent HAVE to do a better job about teaching kids how to actually be safe on the internet and how to interact with content on the internet. Keeping children uneducated only makes uneducated adults.
Plus there are so many children who need the internet for both learning purposes, and safety purposes. And also how the fuck would 18-20 year olds be able to do daily life things like have a job, have a bank account, and access government services without the internet.
Keep people educated, stop hiding them from uncomfortable and “dangerous” topics. Silence and ignorance is what governments and companies want.
We have kids protesting ICE on Roblox. Gen Z rebeled in Nepal with social media. Young people deserve freedom too.
Virtvirt588@lemmy.world 1 month ago
If people cared about “the children” they wouldn’t let them on the Internet until they were 21.
Yeah, that’s only for the people that think they care, but are actually ageist and discriminate.
Protecting children comes in hand with protecting humanity. The sole existence of predatory algorithms, and other shit makes age meaningless.
lechekaflan@lemmy.world 1 month ago
If people cared about “the children” they wouldn’t let them on the Internet until they were 21.
I faintly recall there were then a few people who criticized Gore’s idea of opening up the Internet to the public.

Fucking never. Never ever. I’d sooner cut myself off from all technology and live in the woods than willingly give those creepy fucks my middle goddamn name. There is absolutely nothing good that will come from this company. The people at that company literally fucking movie villains. It’s fucking crazy that absolutely anyone works with them, let alone world governments.
These large scale surveillance companies like Palantir, like Flock, they shouldn’t exist. They should be outlawed. Our government needs probable cause and a warrant to surveil a suspect. If a normal civilian followed you around and filmed you, kept track of you at all times, they’d be arrested for stalking. But for some reason private companies can just watch every man, woman, and child in public and online, catalog all our movements, where we went, how we went there, who was with us, track what we do, what we read, who we know, how we spend our time, what we say, etc., and then permanently log all of that, use it to form dociers on us, predict our behaviors, or desires, ways to manipulate us, and then turn around and sell that data to governments, other companies and private parties. How the fuck is that legal.
Why in the fuck would you ever allow a private, profit-driven company to have that kind of power over your nation, let alone reward it with federal dollars, long term contracts and access to our law enforcement and military data and systems?
Worse, the founders and CEO are unhinged wannabe dictators of their own sovereign techno-states. They’re not even secretive about that. And our goverment is fucking funding these nuts and giving them every detail of the lives of our citizenry, our goverment officials, our military… how fucking stupid do we have to be, guys? I wish I could say it’s just Trump but it’s not. It’s mind boggling.

I’m here because of this. 10 year old Reddit account deleted, app deleted, done over and out.

It’s a great way to kill those products. Maybe that’s the only upside.

Is it?
Most people won’t care and continue using it anyways.
I won’t, for sure, but most people are fucking idiots when it comes to this stuff
lastlybutfirstly@lemmy.world 1 month ago
The problem is there are a lot of subreddits that are an excellent resource. As far as I know, there aren’t any Blender help instances with a 100,000 people. I really wish there were.

I’m permaband from Reddit but I miss some local subs. I hope this encourages people to move away to something else.
tlekiteki@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 month ago
You are not alone.
Tigeroovy@lemmy.ca 1 month ago
There are dozens of us! DOZENS OF US!
uienia@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Unfortunately probably a lot fewer will move than we expect. People seem capable of accepting all sorts of shittification in favour of actively changing their platform. Just look at how many still uses twitter, despite its literal nazification.
funkyfarmington@lemmy.world 1 month ago
How do they permaban you? By IP address? I can’t see how they could verify a new user being the same person as a old one. Email address is trivial to get around too.
pleaseletmein@lemmy.zip 1 month ago
I got permabanned a while ago. In the time since, I’ve moved to a new country and gotten all new devices. Made a new account with a new email address to try to join local subs in the new area.
That account was banned a couple hours later for ban evasion. I had made zero comments or posts and hadn’t joined any of my old subs. After that, I assumed they just have an AI that auto bans a chunk of new accounts “just in case”, because I genuinely have no idea what they could have done to connect the two accounts to each other.
anon_8675309@lemmy.world 1 month ago
They use several metrics to fingerprint you supposedly. I’m sure there’s a work around but I’m too fucking lazy for that when it comes to socials.
sturmblast@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Its not hard to profile the device you are using
Safetyshaft@lemmy.world 1 month ago
How are you still here then?

Lost Redditor? Welcome to Lemmy ;)
techpir8@infosec.pub 1 month ago
That honestly isn’t possible. I have several accounts perma banned and I just make new ones. VMs circumvent hardware ID mapping, VPNs circumvent IP banning. Until they require phone numbers to create accounts circumventing their bans is childs play.
anon_8675309@lemmy.world 1 month ago
If I have to go through any of that it really isn’t worth it.
bitjunkie@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Virtual phone numbers can be spun up in seconds
iceberg314@lemmy.world 1 month ago
how did you get permabanned?
anon_8675309@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Someone posted they wished Trump would die (basically). I said nah, let him stroke out and suffer.
That was like my last strike. Before I had said stuff like Miller is a nazi and stuff(prove me wrong Reddit!). People would report those as threatening harm and I don’t think the Reddit goons really care so yeah…
MuskyMelon@lemmy.world 1 month ago
I called Clarence Thomas a house n*****
Safetyshaft@lemmy.world 1 month ago
I was just permabanned on 3 accounts for anti-ice/trump/pedo comments. 2 existing accounts were 10 years old. One was pretty much just for NSFW/NSFL stuff and I rarely commented on anything with.
One new one I made afterwards was permabanned within 5 hours for ban evasion.
Somehow I forgot I’d made one with “sign in with Apple” a while back and it was on my iPad. That account still works fine.
It’s weird.

While germany has strict laws against using Nazi iconography, there are a lot of exceptions that allow them in satire, arts, etc.
Couple of years back they even allowed swastikas in video games because the law recognised them as art.
discocactus@lemmy.world 1 month ago
So no more bots on Reddit then right???
zbyte64@awful.systems 1 month ago
I’m sure the market will innovate and give us rentable biometrics.
wittycomputer@feddit.org 1 month ago
I bet there will always be bots on reddit. It’s so politicized, countries like Russia, US, China will always run farms there.
Catnipchewer@lemmy.world 1 month ago
I’m milking it for SEO until I get kicked off. It’s been a shitshow since the pandemic. Probably had 10+ accounts banned for having an unpopular opinion, I wear that with pride.
UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 1 month ago
We’re solving the Reddit bot problem the same way we solved the Twitter bot problem.

My kid wants to be verified on Roblox sooooooo bad so he can defend himself against trolls. It’s actually been a good lesson in ignoring those idiots like water off a ducks back.
givesomefucks@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Why would you let him interact with randoms?
Like. “Trolls” are the least of your worries here.
TheAsianDonKnots@lemmy.zip 1 month ago
You ever been on Roblox? I’m not going to shelter him from what’s out there. Together we’re going to learn how to outsmart and out play every kind of troll. My daughters are much stronger now after playing toxic COD Zombies lobbies a decade ago. I’m an old man with three wonderful kids who will never bully or belittle another animal, even the nasty animals online.
IAmYouButYouDontKnowYet@reddthat.com 1 month ago
Right… It like letting you kid run around times square in the 70/80s with no guardian.
ceenote@lemmy.world 1 month ago
I guess I’m compelled not to use Roblox, Reddit or Discord, then.

The guy that said:
Finding things on their way to collapse was much easier than finding the next bargain.
I genuinely don’t understand how is he still free and alive. He’s as close to a real life devil you’d find. In his own words - he’s working on societal collapse to gain more power. Can someone do something already?

Peter fucking thiel has too much money and is backing everything, for example PayPal and stripe that are processing 80% of e-commerce payments

Yliaster@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Still not a good idea, discord and Reddit has sold out its users to ICE, and both train AI on your data.
Palantir will profile you and we will be living in a hellscape if it’s left unchecked.
