- Comment on Rust is Eating JavaScript 1 week ago:
with wasm and friendly new web frameworks, the only thing keeping js alive is inertia
- Comment on What's up, selfhosters? - Sunday thread 2 weeks ago:
i just transitioned from a dedicated pfsense machine to openwrt LXC container in proxmox machine
the idea is to have 2 or more openwrt instances in different proxmox machines for some HA routing to my self hosted subnet(s)
going well so far and i think i know a lot more about routing (ha). openwrt is pretty great though.

in a country that could start acting against this virus right now with RNA vaccine research has probably closed down all those facilities
- Comment on Give permission. Don't give permission. They know where you are anyway 3 weeks ago:
it’s been known for a long time that there is enough identifiable information in a “normal” person’s internet usage to identify exactly who and where you are and what you are likely doing just from metadata analysis and public domain information
question is, how is this being abused
- Comment on 'No control': Sweden grapples with bomb violence wave 4 weeks ago:
interesting i was under the impression that it was other immigrants involved. genuinely the first time i heard this had something to do with ex-yugoslavia. that was an issue in netherlands too 15 years ago, not sure now. albanian gangsters seem to be the new big bad in other parts of europe as well

clubbing became pretty smelly after the smoking bans i think it forced most decent clubs to upgrade their AC
- Comment on When transitioning from reading a post preview to opening the post and reading main body, the place where you left off should be highlighted in some way. 3 months ago:
in a lemmy client i’m making i’ve been tempted to remember the position or maybe comment you left the post on and scroll to that spot when you return to it
could maybe even set a # parameter if it doesn’t mess with the SPA router
- Comment on It's pretty cruel, particularly for non-native English speakers, that 'lose' and 'loose' seemingly switched spellings, meanings and pronunciations with each other when no one was looking 3 months ago:
english is a very silly language that’s evolved so you can do almost anything with it
it’s a risky strat but it seems to have worked

- Comment on Why do Counterstrike and the other top 10 games on Steam NEVER change? 4 months ago:
it’s a really good game, and is heavily supported by Valve to keep it good

- Comment on Peter Molyneux thinks generative AI is the future of games, all but guaranteeing that it won't be 5 months ago:
disappointingly i agree with Pete. with vast new open worlds like no mans sky i think the standard of generative AI could weave good plots, locations, characters and mcguffins
whole game mechanics and voice acting and animation however, i doubt

- Comment on If Russia takes out all the Internet cables like the news is saying. How much of that traffic can be re-routed to satellite? 5 months ago:
oddly enough i think the internet would have to behave in a federated way
content would need to be cached in connected areas and we would need to optimize use of the satellite connections to propagate content between federated islands
