- Comment on YouTube adds new hurdles for ad blockers, and there's currently no way around it 1 day ago:
I’ve stopped using YouTube for the most part. Cut down a lot once they broke the search function and I could no longer find what I was looking for because every result would be flooded with random shorts and other irrelevant content.
Then, my account, which was made in either 05 or 06, got flagged as belonging to a minor and they asked me to verify my age with an ID. Why this even happened when the account itself is over 18 now, and I’m not in the US (which I thought was the only place their age verification BS was being implemented) is beyond me.
I wish there were more options for long form video sharing, since YouTube seems to be the only viable platform for it at the moment.

What’s wrong with Brave?/gen I keep seeing positive comments about it, so there must be something I don’t know.

Dunno why this is worldwide, then. Why should I have to comply with what some states in the US want when I’m not even in the same country, and my country has none of these age verification laws? Whole world shouldn’t have to give up their privacy just because Tennessee said so.

They pulled Tumblr over cartoon porn, but using AI to sexually abuse actual women and children is all good, apparently.

I would like to be able to get comics and manga in ebook form. I’ve always had to go with the print versions because two-page spreads end up looking bad/being more confusing to read on my ereader thanks to the single page display.

Remember when Tumblr banned porn, and implemented it so poorly that any photos with enough peach-ish or brown-ish colors got nuked for “displaying nudity”?

I’ve been locked out of mine. I called Apple and had the most ridiculous customer support interaction of my life. I screen shared with the person, showed them what was happening, they saw the error, read it out loud and then just… Said nothing was wrong and that I had access to the account. Despite having just seen for themselves that I didn’t.

Didn’t the owner of the_donald try to close it down himself, only to be told by the admins that he couldn’t because it brought too much traffic to the site? Or am I thinking of that KotakuInAction sub?

I remember when they first rolled out the “made for kids” video designation, “Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared” (a horror video) was labeled as children’s content by the AI until enough actual users had pointed out the error on Twitter.

I got my 15 year old account permanently banned for filing one report against a user who was stalking my profile to call me slurs. (This was “abusing the report button”, apparently.) Everyone in my household got their accounts banned alongside mine. It’s very strange how the site is being run now.

I haven’t watched YouTube much since they broke the search. And that’s far from the only thing they broke, it’s just what stopped making the site very worthwhile to me. I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s significantly cut down or stopped using it.
