Also British food: jellied eels. Cut up eels in jello.

    Fuck that.

Didn’t the US have pasta in jello (actual jelly, not natural eel gelatin)?

By 1930, there appeared a vogue in American cuisine for congealed salads, and the company introduced lime-flavored Jell-O, to complement the add-ins that cooks across the country were combining in these aspics and salads. Popular Jell-O recipes often included ingredients like cabbage, celery, green peppers, and even cooked pasta.[10]

I’m pretty sure people were writing recipes as shit posts back then. There’s no way any human being willingly ate those.

“So, you’re saying if you put a slice of bread between two slices of bread, then that’s a bread sandwich?”

“Well, yes, technically. But, you wouldn’t eat it that way.”

    • PunnyName@lemmy.world ⁨1⁩ ⁨month⁩ ago

Because you toast the middle piece, and butter it.

People did all the time when they first started making white bread. They would put a piece of that inbtween two pieces of coarse whole grain bread. It doesn’t sound palatable now because our palettes are so corrupted with sugar. Well, yours presumably are.

It’s oddly good. To do it right use unsalted butter and then add season with salt and pepper once the butter is melted.

  • ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de ⁨1⁩ ⁨month⁩ ago

    … That sounds delicious.

No, it eats them, from the inside. You can tell by the dead stare and bread crumbs in their teeth.

I used to eat potato chip and bologna sandwiches. Thats as weird as I got

    • Pacattack57@lemmy.world ⁨1⁩ ⁨month⁩ ago

I still do this. I save easily $200/month eating it 3 days a week. Pro tip: the bread and bologna at Aldis is S tier and with the right addons and seasonings it’s a fantastic light meal.

No wonder they started wars over spices.

Even better, butter the outside too and fry the toast in it. Melts in your mouth! Makes a lot of smoke in the kitchen, but melts in your mouth.

UK cuisine was invented during World War 2 when all they had were 3 slices of bread

That’s why they have the worst food in the world

That says it’s from the 19th century. What American food from then wasn’t garbage?

Uh, your average breakfast in the U.S. was basically a shitload of protein. Idk about you but I definitely like pork, oatmeal, fried potatoes, eggs — with a couple pieces of toast that’s all I need in current year.

    People eat this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crisp_sandwich

    It’s essentially the same.

    They even have it pre-made.

Carbs are good for a hangover if anyone wonders why most British foods are full of carbs.

I feel like this would be pretty good. Toast is pretty good. So you just make some good toast and then you sandwich it between some fresh soft bread. And then you have this soft outside with a crunchy buttery caramelized toast inside, I think it could be good if you were craving some toast and wanted to jazz it up.
