Look at this unfuckable loser. He’s like if someone glued Steve Bannon’s pubes to Steven Miller’s head. “Let us destroy all freedom in the USA so China doesn’t win the race to economically out-compete the USA” is as bullshit a justification as there has ever been for anything in the history of everything.

We are going in that direction. Data centers being built all over the place is the very foundation for tracking every human on the planet.
audaxdreik@pawb.social 1 month ago
It won’t even be obvious to you it happened or what may have caused it. Some AI algorithm determines you are an un-citizen and checks a box. Rejections keep coming back as you slowly fall down the social ladder, or not so slowly at all, until you become the invisible poor and disappear altogether.
1984@lemmy.today 1 month ago
Yeah it just be talking to an AI and automatic rejection of any complaints or concerns. Pretty much like trying to reach a person at Google today, but worse.
dorumon@lemmy.cafe 1 month ago
At least I’m stateless! So, I’m not in their database. Though they’ll probably would’ve already deported me at this rate if my skin color wasn’t white. That and I don’t even have social media at all that can get me arrested or barred from a job which is already happening in real life in this hell hole of a world.
Honestly we are already in the surveillance state as well. Ring cameras are connected to Flock. There are also cheap Flock cameras popping up everywhere with solar panels that almost no one ever wanted or voted for as well. People are already getting arrested for crimes they didn’t commit and even instantly arrested for just having a smartphone with Google Maps (BTW this goes for any shitty android device running Google Play services even with third party Maps applications) near a crime scene. Remember America is the country that arrests you first and asks questions later.
If you wanna truly get out of the system. Go to some private property you’ll never get the chance to own and live in the middle of bumfuck nowhere. With a bunch of movies and tvs shows and games and music and podcasts. Become self reliant on nature and live off the grid. If you need groceries don’t take a smartphone. But rather use dedicated devices for everything like a physical GPS and an MP3 player for like background noise or something to that affair. Bring a feature phone and curtail saying anything illegal over SMS and VOLTE which is unencrypted. Save that shit for like the people on session who you talk to and avoid messaging apps that want your phone number.
You know become a Tech Linux Youtuber. But like not a facist and not a Youtuber. Or the average 4chan /g/ guy they want to be on that website. Remember to also wear your tinfoil hat and that you also cannot stop the burgeoisie from stomping on your face forever. You still need to work and pay property taxes at least! Lest you have the government come check up on you and shoot up where you live and bomb your house which is also something we do here in America especially to paranoid types. Private property is a lie and you never owned anything as well.

All of the US colonies, implementing
ageid verification for everything is to ensure direct control of any dissidents to US empire/oligarchist supremacy.

This is Bubble-101. Before the thing exists, imagine the future…
threatening that another country will get there first combined with pure players like Nvidia, the uncertainty of whether or not it could be a good investment and being able to convince governments and investors to pump money into it.
If AGI ever becomes what they are promising, everything after 2022 should be a case study for marketing and communications students because they are doing a piss-poor job inspiring confidence and just sound like grifters.

I’m feeling really bad about this. I’m an avid global index fund investor (if I can even call myself that by the sums I put in) but seeing this shit unfold…I haven’t put anything in this month and I’ll be looking to invest in bonds or something.
Putting my money into funds that are even partially invested into this suddenly looks really, really unsafe, even if these funds are generally really good long term.
veni_vedi_veni@lemmy.world 1 month ago
S&P490 has been flat at ~ -0.1 Yoy, so yea of the US economy feels pretty shakey apart from the top10.
It’s probably a much more prudent thing to diversify into either PM or other markets, but it’s tough to know which other market is actually good…
NewSocialWhoDis@lemmy.zip 1 month ago
The whole reason China winning would be bad is because of their surveillance state ensuring no one gets around their curtailment of civil liberties…

China has higher government approval rates than any western country. The whole “Chinese surveillance state” myth stems from western media propaganda. Go ask a Chinese person about the dreaded “social credit score” system and they literally don’t know what it is, it’s just western lies. The west has literal journalist prisoners like Assange, the UK is enjailing people for supporting Palestine, and heroes like Snowden had to migrate to other countries due to political persecution for revealing the depth of the western surveillance state. It’s all projection with China.
1985MustangCobra@lemmy.ca 1 month ago
i know real Chinese people who left china because of how bad it is there, not because of socialism, but because of the government surveillance and how they treat people.
MajorasTerribleFate@lemmy.zip 1 month ago
The culpability and misdirection of western states is not evidence for the innocence of China or anyone else.
hume_lemmy@lemmy.ca 1 month ago
Can you tell me what notable event happened in China on June 3, 1989?
Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 1 month ago
You can see the surveillance and self censorship by spending any amount of time on a Chinese app like Red Note.

This is how we know you are arguing in bad faith.
mycodesucks@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Any ways to actively help China win the AI race?
Hypothetically, of course.
douglasg14b@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Other countries are doing it to themselves, no need to do anything explicitly.
I mean, look at the shit hole that is the U.S. now. They are u doing themselves just fine and giving victories to their adversaries.

The same people that experimented on him psychologically in college are the same people who prop up Palantir.
Not saying I agree with what he did or what you said, but facts are facts.
He was part of some of the same experiments that were a part of MKULTRA.

This guy is the maker of surveillance states.
ArgumentativeMonotheist@lemmy.world 1 month ago
I mean, from his perspective, having nothing to lose (besides his soul, ofc, but that’s for silly people 🙄), of course!
count_dongulus@lemmy.world 1 month ago
You think the Palantir CEO has a soul? You gaze into that orb once and it’s game over
crystalmerchant@lemmy.world 1 month ago
If any of you dumb fucks don’t think we already live in a surveillance state, you are part of the problem
Doomsider@lemmy.world 1 month ago
The biggest conspiracy theory of my lifetime was the government was intercepting all communication and it was proven completely true.
avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 1 month ago
Of course he does. But false dichotomy aside, China has a good chance winning the AI race anyway. Given their existing work, the investment they’re doing in higher education, the internationally trained talent the got, and the industrial base to make cheap energy and hardware, I think at the very least China has a decent chance to create equivalent tools at a lower price than whatever the US AI industry creates.

CEOs are getting too comfortable again. One needs to be pew-pewed in the streets to thin the herd and guarantee next year’s harvest!
borari@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 month ago
I know I’m supposed to be better than this, but what the absolute fuck is wrong with bro? His entire vibe is off. What the fuck is with that hair? Why is he calling everything baller? This is some Zuckerberg lizard person shit all over again a person who thinks that hair works and talking like that sounds fucking cool can’t be an actual human what in the weird ass shit.

XLE@piefed.social 1 month ago
Alex Karp thinks people only care about one kind of surveillance. And he thinks he will alleviate our fears if he gives us a pinky promise not to surveil us in that one way.
That way is cheating.
He later brings this up again, saying that most surveillance technology isn’t determining, “Am I shagging too many people on the side and lying to my partner?” Your guess is as good as any as to what that’s all about.
Well, thanks for clearing that up, Alex. That was indeed my sole concern.
(The rest of the article is full of indecipherable quotes from Alex, which demonstrates you don’t need to be smart to be rich.)

seems like less of a threat than US bases surveillance/MOSSAD assisted tech.
percent@infosec.pub 1 month ago
How would a surveillance state even prevent that?
Lemminary@lemmy.world 1 month ago
If you beat them at it, they can’t do it themselves! Duh! Oh, wait.
