Sallet
TomasEkeli@programming.dev 3 weeks ago If it’s not the Sallet, what are you doing with your life? Get a grip.
Great Bascinet should have been an option, though. Solid choice.
olafurp@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
If I had to choose for combat I’d pick frog-mouth. The angle of the armor really matters so the crossbow bolts bounce off or need to penetrate a more steel for same weight.
Can’t beat the chad aura of the great helm though. Best helm for looksmaxxing when you have a chill garrison position.
zikzak025@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I was about to come in here and say the same thing. The great helm is iconic, but the frogmouth is just both cool and practical.
olafurp@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I looked it up, frog-mouth sucks unless you’re jousting. You can’t see unless you’re leaning forward, can’t breathe properly etc. Turns out great helm is great.

Great helm
carldiortus@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I have worn exactly half of these, and since I not that great at tournaments, I can say that KettleHat is the most fun for audience, you will definitely hear every bang like a church bell. The first is quite comfy (never heard of this name though). GreatHelm / Armet / Hounskull - damn bro, you can’t see shit in those while having trouble breathing, and all that for the trade of security :/, no like, feels like you are just a target in the field. Your Bascinet here is extreemely open, it’s a good helmet, but I would like to have some more face cover. Sallet, wore it once, many years ago, memories are fairly good.
Sylvartas@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 weeks ago
I want to try a frogmouth. I think it might have a good security/visibility ratio. Also it looks funny 🐸
inb4_FoundTheVegan@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I’d look cool af when I wear none of these in battle.
I’d die immediately of course, but everyone would agree I’m the flyest corpse.
banazir@lemmy.ml 3 weeks ago Barbute or kettle hat. I can’t pick between the two.
orenj@leminal.space 3 weeks ago Frogge
anomnom@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
The great helm wins the looks, but if I actually had to wear one every day, it’d be kettle helm hands down. The rest seem either horribly uncomfortable, hard to see out of, or impossible to move well in.
AceFuzzLord@lemmy.zip 3 weeks ago
Hounskull. Looks closest to a bird head, so you know I gotta pick it. Would say the one to the left of it, but frogs are not high on my animal tier list.
JargonWagon@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Lemme at em with the Hounskull, I’ll peck put their eyes!
Nah but fr, Bascinet for me, I like to keep it casual.
Professorozone@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Frog mouth FTW!

Yeah, I just like the look.

If our original choice of helmets is steel, I’m gonna assume the guys in the other camp have steel too, so I’m not bringing a bronze helmet just to aura farm, however good looking it is.
Avicenna@programming.dev 3 weeks ago
Sorry best I can do is iron, if you don’t want to die in a blaze of glory that is on you
ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 3 weeks ago
Is that Phoenician? This is in a museum in my town: es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tumba_del_guerrero
They have entire grave of a Phoenician mercenary there.
Avicenna@programming.dev 3 weeks ago
I don’t know if the plume is historically accurate but the base is Corinthian
atrielienz@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Hounskull. Looks like a bird and I just think that’s hilarious.
BigDawgOClock@lemmy.ml 3 weeks ago
Great helm. Add a plume of feathers at the top and is one of the first Iron Banner helmets in Destiny the game.
ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 3 weeks ago
What are the pros and cons of each one of those?
tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 weeks ago The frog-mouth was for jousting primarily, visibility was very poor. I would go with the sallet or kettlehelm because they had better visibility and the flared bottom helps protect from archers or slingers.
Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 weeks ago Kettle Hat, you can make soup in it if needed.
monkdervierte@lemmy.zip@lemmy.zip 3 weeks ago
I guess the sallet is the most balanced.

Airfried@piefed.social 3 weeks ago
The Sallet is generally paired with the most badass armors but if we’re only going by helmet looks, I’d go with the Frog-Mouth. It hits different.
Mpatch@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Not gona lie seems awfully inconvenient in light rain shower.
“Oh my poor, poor valiant knight, tell me how did he parish. Like a lion fighting to his last breath? "
“Well you see my lady, there was this rain cloud. "
nullspace@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Frog-mouth gang rise up.
dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I’d go with the Frog-Mouth. It hits different.
It also gets hit different.
buttmasterflex@piefed.social 3 weeks ago
The armet just gives classic pop culture knight vibes for me
ToiletFlushShowerScream@piefed.world 3 weeks ago
How do you even see out of most of these? Doesn’t an attacker just have to jauntily skip behind the helmet wearer and become effectively invisible?
brad_troika@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Not very well but the closer a hole is to your eyes the more you can see out. Breeding holes on the mouth and nose can also help you see downwards. I think most medieval battles were fought in formations, your enemies were in front of you, if someone was allowed to “skip back behind you” something already went really wrong.
ToiletFlushShowerScream@piefed.world 3 weeks ago
That makes sense.

P1k1e@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
The Sallet just does it for me, not sure why
Skyrmir@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Because it’s easier to breathe and more comfortable. It has less protection, but the majority of the time you’re not being stabbed in the face.
Of course that one time you are being stabbed in the face, you’re really going to have some regrets.
MajorMajormajormajor@lemmy.ca 3 weeks ago
“What are you going to do, stab me?” - man who was stabbed in the face.

Spangenhelm has that unmatched aura

I’m torn between Sallet and Frog Mouth.
Sallet seems like the most practical with decent visibility level, not a ton but some neck protection.
Frog mouth just screams advanced night unkillable knight.
Inside of me there are two helms…
