This is important. It’s not like we had Ibuprofen for thousands of years, right? Modern medicine is insanely useful but that got nothing to do with anything that’s getting worse right now. That medieval slander is completely uncalled for. They had many technological breakthroughs just like we do and there were a lot of times and places in history that were much worse than these 1000 years in Europe have been on average.

People worked a lot less before the industrial revolution in general. The general population in Medieval times was also far more self-determined than people during absolutism later in the modern age. When people look at the Louvre today they don’t realize a grand place like that was only for the Epstein class of another time and built on theft and corpses, hence people brought out the guillotines.

The middle ages were arguably better than a lot of years following it until recently. People generally lived in relative peace and prosperity over those 1000 years. Same can’t be said about 30 year war or world wars.

The Sallet is generally paired with the most badass armors but if we’re only going by helmet looks, I’d go with the Frog-Mouth. It hits different.

Nobody right in their mind would underestimate the force of nature.

Most of the west and north European flavor of Christianity originated from Irish monks if I remember correctly. As they spread their understanding of Christianity, slavery pretty much vanished in those parts of the world. It made it pretty much impossible to enslave believers of the one true god because they are your brothers. It also conveniently served as a convincing argument to convert so it definitely wasn’t all rosy either.

The Byzantine Empire on the other hand had a different flavor of Christianity going back from Roman times where slavery was fundamental to society. Eventually Byzantine fell and many Europeans believed it was a punishment from god for their debauchery and mistreatment of fellow Christians as slaves.

Slavery became much more common again after the age of enlightenment and absolutism in early modern times when European monarchies really started colonizing the globe on an industrial scale. Most of Christian Europe were absolutely against it for almost a thousand years. So yeah, it’s totally understandable people in 1500 thought it was wrong.

I believe many people like to think slavery is just a default for civilization and abolishing it was a fairly recent idea but there always were cultures, places, and periods in history where it wasn’t a thing because people aren’t inherently cruel and selfish. Many people in history knew slavery was wrong.

AFAIK they made a waiting list based on wish lists for the Steam Machine and Steam Frame after the Steam Controller was sold out immediately and scalpers but them up on Ebay for $300 a piece the same day. I assume they haven’t rolled out that system for the Steam Deck sine it’s already out. It’s probably part of the reason they hiked prices that much. Apart from obvious hardware price increases of course. Scalpers or not, the whole situation just stinks. And I’m saying that as someone who doesn’t want a Steam Deck.
