Ah, the cry of teen parties everywhere in Australia when someone rips oven the box, exposing the bladder: “Gooooooon!”
Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 13 hours ago
“Hired goons” has a whole new meaning
PunnyName@lemmy.world 12 hours ago
Makes me think that “goon” was a self censorship of “gun”.

The Bengali word for multiplication is গুন, which is pronounced like goon. As the uncle with a math degree, I’m often asked to help my nephews with homework. They’re in high school. They can’t stop grinning when we talk about multiplication. Brain rot is truly cross-cultural, I guess.

Arsenal FC and its fanbase have always been known as the Gooners (Gunners).
We are the biggest victims of this

In EvE Online, Goonswarm Federation usually goes by Imperium these days to crib GamesWorkshops branding for 40k and to get away from their old leader and past problomatic branding… For an online army of 10k angry nerds, got to look presentable…
I will admit, online names have a bit more leaniency for being immature, but im sure football fans can handle some friendly ribbing.

I do worse than beat up goons, I mog them. They beat themselves.
Flying_Penguin@lemmy.zip 9 hours ago
I miss when goon was a hockey term.

It still is isn’t it? Or is it enforcer? Or is it “GET YOUR PARLAY IN NOW WITH BET365”
Flying_Penguin@lemmy.zip 9 hours ago
They are enforcers and even that’s slowly fading away.
Zagam@piefed.social 11 hours ago
Fuck yes I’m in.
Wait sorry. i thought you said “off” not “up”.
Pricklesthemagicfish@reddthat.com 10 hours ago
Now you have to beat them off?
Skullgrid@lemmy.world 12 hours ago
DAE remember when “Gay Boner” meant happy mistake?
stupidcasey@lemmy.world 11 hours ago
You can still goon to them if you like.

It’s like pov or insulting people as npc. I kind of like that the newer generations used more gaming words. The kids of gaming parents are talking :D
