…why are they any different than any other community you don’t care about? There aren’t pictures included in the announcements, and you can easily scroll past the post.
Because for normal people there is a subtle difference scrolling past single announcements for communities about gardening and games vs gaping assholes and huge dicks and especially when you get tens of the latter in sequence.

Nah it’s more than thst. Some of us want to see nsfw stuff occasionally but not have our feed filled up with shout-outs to niche porn community

Totally. There is a post about the instance. Even the most deranged by the deluge of hormones should be able to figure out how to proceed from there.
I’m fine with it — and I think that it improves searchability – but the posts need to be marked NSFW, and some of the announcement posts are not, which means that people who have NSFW stuff blocked are still getting them…
My understanding is that this is something of an exceptional situation, as apparently lemmynsfw.com — the big NSFW community host — went down and the admin was supposed to be away for some months, so it’s not coming back up in at least the near future, and so it sounds like people are setting up alternatives on other instances.
I think it is too reductive that NSFW means porn. It could be nudity in arts or otherwise graphic topics or imagery that you don’t want to engage with in every situation. I follow several arts communities that frequently have NSFW post without them being pornographic or even sexual but flagged because some people browse social media where such still would be frowned upon. I think the Fediverse would benefit from having multiple flags for porn, nudity, gore, common triggers and so on instead of just one
I was slightly critical of this post and tone, buuuut after checking all the recent posts…it is quite excessive.
I think the general post about the new instance is perfect, and maybe including a link to a nsfw specific ‘new communities’ sub that’s part of the new instance.
Yep. It’s not about policing or moralising but that this is getting out of hand with spamming of all the porn communities that of course are super important for their creators.
An upside of the porn spam is that it linked me to what new instance to block before it became an issue. I don’t like blurring nsfw by default for artistic nudity or non-porn nsfw content, but I also don’t like my global feed to be half porn, so I find blocking the instance to be a good enough solution.

Dear diary. Today I was utterly destroyed by a horny teenager with a clever and super original copy pasta they had gotten from the thousand of times it had been posted though each and every time before it some effort. I spent much many time worrying how much emotional distress I had caused this poor darling by suggesting that porn doesn’t have to be everywhere and all the time. I can only hope they can resume their daily wank routine and recover.

It seems the mods have done some cleaning and that the sysop at that porn instance is aware and working on it too.
In the comments here I’m amusing myself in banter with what I hope are teenage boys rushed by their hormones but I fear are middle aged men whipped by their demons.

None of the images from these new subs are loading for me so it’s double-pointless!
You might try changing the sort or filter to new or hot. Mine was defaulted to activen I think, and no posts loaded until I adjusted sorting.
Like Lemmynsfw before it, you have to sub and view the content from your local instance, or make an account on the nsfw instance, it seems.
There’s been a couple different accounts that do it, just block the account the first one time you see it, because they’ll keep doing it till they’re banned then make a new account.
Most likely its just one person who likes putting NSFW places it’s not meant to be, which is why they were/are using porn pics.
I just blocked the entire domain honestly, it’s what you need to do if you really want to prevent it.
That is true. For some reason it dropped out of my mind to block the entire domain, despite being a power user.
Still, I don’t think it needs to be standard procedure to announce every fringe porn community. As stated above, the audience will find it. And it is unnecessary for new people to the Fediverse getting the impression that this is what it is all about.
I suggest a live in peace treaty with porn instances. Do your thing, I really don’t care. Let people subscribe to whatever communities where they are federated. Again, I really do not care. But please block the instances dedicated to porn from posting anywhere else. There is really no benefit to it except the weirdos that not separate their porn addiction from regular social context.

But we all have different thresholds before we reach for that block button I guess. I’ll keep being proactive about not seeing stuff I don’t want to.

Lemmy doesn’t offer a community-specific NSFW filter. It’s all or nothing, and “NSFW” is a broad category that includes other things in other communities that people do want to continue seeing.
Does FediNSFW have an equivalent community? It does kinda make sense to at least temporarily block these posts, and maybe sticky a link there instead.
They could and should just make their own “NEW COMMUNITIES” community/ meta community for discussion around the whole instance
Why don’t you showcase and amplify uses of the Fediverse that you find novel and compelling even louder and drown the other announcements out?

As someone who browses /all, I have no problem viewing the image/link if you post from the community, but posting the community itself, on that instance, isn’t helping anybody. Maybe just post the instance once a day and list the new communities it has? But posting each new community isn’t really doing anything.
I’m all for people posting communities here, but if there’s nothing in the community/I can’t see it, my time’s been wasted and I’m gonna drop the rare downvote.
As for porn, I don’t much care either way, but I’d like to see some more female-friendly porn. Not because I’m female (I’m not; cis/het male here), but because the dehumanising and objectification hasn’t been “hot” for me for decades. If it ever was. At least show the gal getting something out of it.

If I interpret this comment and this comment correctly, this may be a feature of PieFed that automatically (or with a checkbox?) announces new communities to this one, so the people who are doing this might not be completely aware that this is what they are doing and might end up not reading this post.
