The only thing that sucks about ranged is having to rely on jars early on. Haaaate it when they run just a bit too close and you eat the splash damage 🤬

Still playing Withering Rooms and still absolutely enchanted by it. @Coelacanth@feddit.nu 's review of it initially sold me on it so I’ll just paste it again here!:
I finished Withering Rooms a few days ago, having done both a full first playthrough and a quick run through NG+ to get the ending exclusive to NG+. Since then I’ve been in that odd spot where I’m kind of having trouble moving on to the next game. I just keep thinking about Withering Rooms.
This game was so amazingly good, it is seriously unbelievable it is the work of a solo dev. Especially since he also composed pretty much all the music - and the music is as phenomenal as the game. I don’t think I’ve been this impressed with a solo dev since Lucas Pope and Obra Dinn.If you vibe in any way with what you see on the Steam page, I heavily encourage you giving it a shot.
It is one of the most unique games I’ve ever played, which is funny because it simultaneously wears its inspirations on its sleeves. But the influences never end up leading to derivative end product, instead they are just the foundation for the very distinctive artistic vision of an auteur developer that is doubtlessly doing his own thing. And it’s not just about the story and world building and art direction and atmosphere, but the gameplay and build variety is also really good. All the gameplay systems are so well designed, the puzzles are intuitive and the game has so many thoughtful little touches you wouldn’t expect from the first game of a solo dev, especially on the QOL front.
The combat itself is a little clunky, but you do get used to it and there are several ways to build both melee and spellcasting, there is a ranged weapon build that leans more into consumables, you can sneak around and place traps, you can be a summoner… Probably more that I didn’t think of yet. And using all these different tools is a lot of fun.Having played this I am unbelievably excited for the sequel, which enters Early Access this year.

- Comment on Subnautica 2's early access release date was "self-servingly" leaked by Krafton, "further damaging the game", claim lawyers for reinstated Unknown Worlds CEO 2 months ago:
Krafton’s Lionel Hutzes have swiftly fired back in their own letter. “Papoutsis’s message was simply celebrating the UW employees’ efforts toward a past event: Krafton’s pre-Opinion determination that Subnautica 2 was ready for Early Access release,”
Lol the doofuses at Krafton actually hired a lawyer named Lionel Hutzes. No wonder they lost the case XD

Yeah fuck tipping. The very thought of having to deal with it keeps me from eating out at sit down restaurants more often than not.
Don’t get me started about tip screens when I’m picking up food to go.

These are the same assholes who screwed the subnautica devs out of their bonuses to fund AI slop. Watching themselves shot themselves in the foot in real time is oddly satisfying.

- Comment on Would the tart blueberries taste as good if you didn't have to randomly power through 3 to 5 bland ones between each good one? 3 months ago:
Blueberries from Peru, one of the largest exporters, are generally are mostly bland mush in my experience. I remember hearing in a podcast someone saying they mostly grew a particular variety that was well suited for the climate but didn’t taste as good as other varieties that thrive more in North America.

I ate a beet once and found it absolutely disgusting. They look really similar to radishes so i just assumed radishes tasted the same for the longest time until I had a real Mexican taco with radish. Now I fucken love radishes!
- Comment on Games you really want to play, but can't or won't? 3 months ago:
I’ve came to depend less on the visual cues which are often deceptive and more on the audio ones or counting in my head for dodges/parries. Also invest heavily (basically all your points) into defense/vitality which makes Dodge/Parry misses much more forgiving. Eventually, even if you do a smattering of side quests you’ll get powerful enough to basically ignore the timing mechanics altogether.
Also set it on story mode + auto QTEs. I did that on my first playthrough and had absolutely no regrets. The mechanics of the game are definitely secondary to the experience of the story.

- Comment on XCOM: Enemy Unknown – Review and Retrospective- Is It Worth It In 2025? 3 months ago:
Agree 100%. Played updated X-Com 1 and 2 once through and thought they were fine but just that everything was too clean and on rails. I didn’t think those games provided any particularly memorable experiences for me.
I’m still playing the 90s version to this day because I remember this one dude who was the lone survivor out of his 12 man squad during an early terror mission that went south really fast. He quickly emptied his initial ammo loadout, had to run through enemy fire to scavenge weapons from his fallen comrades scattered across the map, and changed weapon types at least twice because there were no more rifle clips to be had anywhere on the map. He surprisingly finished that mission and carried on to the end of the game as a living God of war.
I still remember that shit to this day and keep playing with the hope that such an epic story will unfold again.
- Comment on Tyler Robinson and Luigi Mangione are a glaring example of how attractive people get treated against ones who are not attractive 4 months ago:
I think it has less to do with appearances than the popularity of issues/people they choose to pursue with their actions.
Luigi off’ed sometime pretty much universally reviled across political spectrums. Probably a good 80% of people could sympathize at least a little with what Luigi did. Every adult has probably had extensive personal experience dealing with the dysfunction of our healthcare system. Brian Thompson is just the personification of that.
Tyler did a perfect one-shot with the most hilarious timing on someone that was loathed by ~50% of the country and liked by the other ~50%.
The two issues in which have a fairly wide gap in universal appeal.
