Yeah I think a good gaming monitor has better latency than a CRT. I remember a Mario 64 speedrunning event brought the top players in for a weekend (literally a new world record was set at this event, they had all the best players) and they were all playing on gaming monitors with a good N64 to HDMI adapter. None of them complained about latency, they all enjoyed the setup, and I remember the world record holder (Cheese) actually started using the same setup at home.

Galaga is great! Also I remember Defender 2 on the NES
- Comment on Great games you would recommend from before 1990? 3 days ago:
I was gonna say Monkey Island but that’s actually 1990. SimyCity was 1989, I’m not sure if that’s worth playing these days compared to SimCity 2000 or something. Mario 2 (US) and 3 are probably still good.

In the US call it Gray and Grey, but in the UK localize the title to Grey and Gray

Yeah Matrix is horrible, I don’t think it will ever catch on

Revolt is alright, but good luck getting people to join there lol, Discord is the only thing people are willing to join

Lol I thought they were supposed to delete the ID images once confirmed

I know you said Crysis (1?), but I think Crysis 3 still looks great

yea the PS2 version is bad, but this kinda looks worse lol
- Comment on PlayStation State of Play (Sept. 24, 2025) | MEGATHREAD 2 weeks ago:
it’s SO bad, I don’t see any reason for it to exist when the game already plays great on PC (with the Vanilla Fixer), and on PS5 with the PS2 version

Those FPS games you list all have very good source ports like eDuke32, and Chocolate Doom
- Comment on Block Blasters: Theft of $32k in crypto from a stage 4 cancer patient due to valve’s incompetence in allowing malware on their platform 2 weeks ago:
There are so many ways malware could get through that. What if it waits for a specific date or a certain amount of progress in the game? This automated sandbox probably wouldn’t be smart enough to beat the game, certainly not with as many games as they have.
- Comment on Block Blasters: Theft of $32k in crypto from a stage 4 cancer patient due to valve’s incompetence in allowing malware on their platform 3 weeks ago:
People would do this on purpose to steal their own money and then beg Valve to pay them lol
- Comment on User "threelonmusketeers@sh.itjust.works" is banning users for downvoting his posts. 3 weeks ago:
I think upvoting would be allowed even if you are not a subscriber. Only downvoting would be limited in that way. And yes you could get around it, but small obstacles are surprisingly effective because people are lazy (ever try to get someone to switch to the Fediverse? Lol)
- Comment on User "threelonmusketeers@sh.itjust.works" is banning users for downvoting his posts. 4 weeks ago:
This is why it would be good to limit downvoting to subscribers only
- Comment on Mastodon is bringing quote posts to the fediverse 4 weeks ago:
Boost is not the same thing as quote posting. Boost is like retweet. A quote post is like when you make a post that references someone else’s post, it looks similar to including a screenshot of their post in your own post, except it’s a real link.
- Comment on Mastodon is bringing quote posts to the fediverse 4 weeks ago:
They added support to view quote posts before they added the ability to create quote posts
- Comment on Can we please stop arguing about whether Bluesky is decentralized? 5 weeks ago:
I said “ideally”, but they probably would’ve done a lot of things differently if they were committed to decentralization
- Comment on Can we please stop arguing about whether Bluesky is decentralized? 5 weeks ago:
Well 25% is very strict, pretty sure mastodon.social is more than that for the Fediverse
But yea anything higher than 75% is kinda missing the point, ideally if anyone hit 50% they would close signups and suggest people signup on alternatives instead lol
join-lemmy.org actually hides any instance of 30% of Lemmy github.com/LemmyNet/…/instances.tsx#L451-L456

No, the article is about Mastodon.social’s nonprofit
Are you talking about Mastodon gGmbH? joinmastodon.org/de/about
Mastodon gGmbH is a non-profit from Germany that develops the Mastodon software. Mastodon started in 2016 as an open-source project by Eugen Rochko
- Comment on Mastodon says it doesn't 'have the means' to comply with age verification laws 1 month ago:
The title says Mastodon, not mastodon.social, and it appears that Eugen was talking about the Fediverse or Mastodon, not mastodon.social specifically (hence the word decentralization, the discussion was not centralized on mastodon.social).
I think people are mixing up the discussion between Mastodon vs mastodon.social too much.
- Comment on Mastodon says it doesn't 'have the means' to comply with age verification laws 1 month ago:
Why are we focusing on mastodon.social? I’m just talking about the Fediverse. Sure ATProto can theoretically avoid this too but they don’t have as many choices for instances.
- Comment on Mastodon says it doesn't 'have the means' to comply with age verification laws 1 month ago:
Well even if mastodon.social complies, there are many many other instances to choose from, from all different countries
