This is an interesting idea, or maybe we just need people to be more willing to comment in old posts. Reddit is actively hostile to old posts, but they should work fine in Lemmy/PieFed since we have sort options like Active and New Comments. On old forums people used to continue talking in old posts forever, we could do that here no problem, the software supports it.

I partially agree with you, this needs to be under $800. But the last attempt was awful, this would have to be over $1000 to be as bad as the original Steam Machines.

but I don’t think this idea would work because people are lazy and this would be kinda confusing
if you’re onboarding family and friends, you just choose the instance for them, you say “hey, signup here: URL”

Yea, bot posts screw up our post:comment ratio, they make a ton of posts but they don’t get comments, and seeing a bunch of posts with 0 comments causes users to leave Lemmy

- Deus Ex - this game will last forever, especially with mods (like my Randomizer mod lol)
- StarCraft 2 - I just love watching the esports, and with no other esport games available I guess this would be pretty huge
- The 7th Guest - this is a bad pick but I’m obsessed with the game
- Doom - I mean, come on, obviously
- maybe some kind of builder game, I’m not into any currently but someone else said Factorio and that sounds like a good pick as a game you can keep playing forever, or maybe Stardew Valley or something accessible like that so everyone can play forever
