It’s only blowing, not playing as it can’t reach the keys/buttons/whatevertheyrecalleds
Karyoplasma@discuss.tchncs.de 1 month ago
They are called valves and not pushing any valves is called “playing open”. It just produces the trumpet’s harmonic series over its fundamental frequency, kinda like a bugle. Most trumpets are Bb trumpets, so dolphins could theoretically play all notes in that series. That’s very hard and requires excellent lip control, of course.

Wouldn’t Figure 2 be like a person playing the trumpet with their nose? I’m not saying it’s not possible, but…
Idreamofcheesy@lemmy.world 1 month ago
If I’m not mistaken, dolphins can’t physically breathe through their mouth. Like, their both doesn’t have a tube that connects to their lungs. So figure 2 is the only way it could work.
NONE_dc@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Oh, I didn’t know that!
Ek-Hou-Van-Braai@piefed.social 1 month ago
Jip their blow hole is just their nostrils that moved up to the top of their head over generations.

You are and extremely talented painter in the year 1384, a skill that is extremely expensive and difficult to cultivate. How will you be remembered? Butt blast? Butt blasts!!!
Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club 5 weeks ago
Direct butt-to-butt warfare, no trumpets - just like it used to be back in the day.
LORDSMEGMA@sh.itjust.works 1 month ago
Do you play the trumpet with your nose?
BakerBagel@midwest.social 1 month ago
Dolphins don’t have noses, and their tracheas are completely separated from their mouths.
DrunkAnRoot@sh.itjust.works 5 weeks ago

I think number 2 would be more effective
mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 5 weeks ago
played trumpet, the air helps but i dunno… no functional lip interfaces on either orifice… the blow hole still has the most promise.
IhaveCrabs111@lemmy.world 5 weeks ago
Are you saying you know from experience??
Twakyr@feddit.org 5 weeks ago
Purely internet pseudo knowledge
Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 5 weeks ago
Dolphins would probably prefer the saxophone
Exusia@lemmy.world 5 weeks ago
Figure 2. Because its silly and I refuse to need a more elaborate reason in a shitposting sub.
AntiBullyRanger@ani.social 1 month ago
1, because 2 sounds& looks like this.
chuckleslord@lemmy.world 1 month ago
Neither
Brass instruments require the buzzing of lips in addition to the air in order to work. Since most of the dolphin’s air comes out the blowhole, but that has no mechanism to vibrate like lips it’s impossible.
Kolanaki@pawb.social 5 weeks ago
They might play better with their butthole than these options.
mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 5 weeks ago
gonna need a shit valve on that horn

It’s all lead to butt tuba.
krunklom@lemmy.zip 5 weeks ago
A dolphin would shove the trumpet up its cloaca (I think they have cloaca’s) because they’re horny monsters.

Speak for yourself
ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 5 weeks ago
Dolphins aren’t mouth-breathers though.
AA5B@lemmy.world 5 weeks ago
They seem to move their mouths to speak. That implies they are mouth breathers
