Dude looks like grim death now. They’ll already have to Weekend at Bernie’s him from 2026-2028.
zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
Naw, he’s got at least another decade in him. His dad died at 93, and his mom died at 88. And that’s without the medicine they have today. I wouldn’t be surprised if he lived into his 90s.

only the good die young. seems the worse you are, the longer you live. this fucker will still be destabilizing the globe at 100
Ledericas@lemm.ee 3 weeks ago
did you look at his makeup from a recent video, he looks very sickly without it, the skin past his ears that is. thats why he made all attempts to hide sickly white skin with the orange makeup.

I understand one tactic is for him to serve as VP under someone else who promises to resign to allow Trump to serve again but he keeps saying there’s also other options.
WHAT OTHER OPTIONS IS HE TALKING ABOUT?
sawdustprophet@midwest.social 3 weeks ago
one tactic is for him to serve as VP under someone else who promises to resign to allow Trump to serve again
According to the 12th amendment, “no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.”
This seems pretty plain to me: if you can’t serve as president, you also can’t serve as vice president. Of course, this has never been tested in court…
52fighters@lemmy.sdf.org 3 weeks ago
That’s interesting. When I was reading the Constitution, I didn’t read it the same way. I thought that the basic rules (age, citizenship, etc.) were what applied since obtaining office and serving office were distinct in my mind. I like your reading better but I have a feeling SCOTUS wouldn’t read it the same way you do.

Just not holding elections due to some sort of national emergency is a tried and true method.
zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
No, he’ll just issue an executive order that gets rid of term limits. Who’s going to remove him?
52fighters@lemmy.sdf.org 3 weeks ago
We held elections in the middle of the Civil War and made sure soldiers could vote. If Lincoln could do it then, we can do it now. I’ll fight to make sure we have elections, and I hope others do the same.
Chocrates@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Trump is inelagable to be president after their second term, the line of succession would jump to Johnson.
Never been tested in court tho so I’m sure it’d get by. But at that point why even care about the rules?
withabeard@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
He’s making a lot of noise about Zelensky not going to the polls. So …
War, he’s talking about taking America to war so strongly they can’t have an election.
52fighters@lemmy.sdf.org 3 weeks ago
I guess that makes sense. I have a very firm feeling he is going to intentionally provoke a war against China. That war might already be brewing but he is much more likely to take us into it than almost anyone else.
OhNoMoreLemmy@lemmy.ml 3 weeks ago
The supreme court has already ruled that the 14th amendment isn’t self executing and congress is required to disqualify someone from being president.
The legal argument holds for any decision about presidential eligibility. So Trump can just stand and see if congress are brave enough to disqualify him in an open vote.
ijedi1234@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
Trump could claim that his term as 45th and his term as 47th are recognized as separate offices of President. Thus, he would get one extra term as 47th’s second term.
CrabAndBroom@lemmy.ml 3 weeks ago
Thus opening the door for some sort of Clinton-Bush type of future scenario where a Democrat and Republican are buddies behind the scenes and just keep running for one term and alternating for 20-odd years.

This isn’t a boring dystopia thing. It’s many things, but it’s certainly not boring ):
A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 3 weeks ago
The boring bit is that I’m not the least bit surprised that he said that. other aspects of this dystopian timeline are certainly less boring.
isVeryLoud@lemmy.ca 3 weeks ago
He’s been saying this for months at this point, and it was part of Project 2025, which he seems to be following like a computer runs code.
samus12345@lemm.ee 3 weeks ago
It’s easy. Just refuse to leave and nobody will do shit about it except complain, as always.

to anyone here who is active duty military:
you took an oath to protect and defend the constitution of the USA. It’s time to start protecting and defending the constitution.
Formfiller@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
When has the constitution ever stopped him before?
lightnsfw@reddthat.com 3 weeks ago
FauxLiving@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
If Trump can beat the USS Constitution in a 1v1 then he can run for a 3rd term. This goes for all future, unaugmented two-term Presidents.
SeeMarkFly@lemmy.ml 3 weeks ago
“The White House has become an adult day care center” Republican Senator Bob Corker
disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
That would take an amendment to the Constitution, which requires 2/3 of states to ratify. He has a better chance of taking it by force than by law.
YtA4QCam2A9j7EfTgHrH@infosec.pub 3 weeks ago
Trump isn’t supposed to be able to assume office according to the constitution being an insurrectionist and all. The document doesn’t say a damn thing about total presidential immunity.
The constitution is meaningless.
disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
That would only apply had our court system not failed us in convicting him before the election.
potoo22@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
There is an exception for wartime… Fuck
disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I’ve seen that sentiment floating around, so you’re not alone there. Good on you for verifying!
thehowlingnorth@lemmy.ca 3 weeks ago
Some guy pitched it as “Vance runs with Asshole as VP, wins then resigns. Asshole is prez again.” Of course this requires Vance not having ambitions of his own.
Sanctus@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Except he’d have to be Speaker of the House not VP. He can’t be VP after this term according to the Constitution.
assaultpotato@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
“Some guy” in this case is Trump during the interview with NBC btw - that’s exactly his (first) plan
Rivalarrival@lemmy.today 3 weeks ago
I said the same thing, but it turns out there is a weasely way around it. The 22nd amendment doesn’t actually say you can only be president for two terms. The text actually says:
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice,
A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 3 weeks ago
I’d say don’t give them any ideas, but I’m sure that force has been on the menu for a long while now.
PS: next, Trump will complain that a 2/3 majority for constitutional changes is cultural marxism or some such. I called it!
Kraven_the_Hunter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 weeks ago
I don’t think "serve"is the right verb to use here.
DarkFuture@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Buy a gun.
Join or form a militia.
Conservatives don’t, and never did, give a flying fuck about the Constitution.
The rest of us are going to have to.
A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 3 weeks ago
Because of cause he would say that eventually. A boring dystopia indeed.

Stop listening to his words and report what’s actually happening, news media
Fredthefishlord@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 weeks ago
He’s the president of the most powerful country on earth. When his words are “I’m seeking a dictatorship” they are news.
bluegreenwookie@bookwormstory.social 3 weeks ago
he did literally get elected on the promise of being a dictator
Yawweee877h444@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Exactly. Our media is absolutely spineless.
It should be breaking news, the US has fallen to authoritarianism. Trump is a dictator, etc.
They are not reporting the news accurately. But then again, the media currently serves the billionaire class.

This is one of those things were it is important to report on what he’s saying tho.
Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
Newspapers say they report fairly on all topics. Critics say otherwise.
Some people say the newspapers report everything perfectly fine. Not everyone agrees. Here’s what we think.
I got a million of these.
