- Comment on Australia's travel advice for the US has toughened three times since April 16 hours ago:
Has been for decades.
- Comment on Fake reviews on Play Store by Plex staff 1 day ago:
Marketing probably asked everyone to write a review on their internal Slack or something.
- Comment on Unhappy with the recently lost file upload feature in the Nextcloud app for Android? So are we. Let us explain. - Nextcloud 1 day ago:
You can just install it off f-droid instead of the play store.
- Comment on Tesla Reportedly Has $800 Million Worth of Cybertrucks That Nobody Wants 1 day ago:
They’re worth something as scrap, I’m sure.
- Comment on Steam Deck sales still going strong over three years later 3 days ago:
Yeah, once you reach a certain stage in life it’s basically the only way you can do any gaming at all.
- Comment on [deleted] 5 days ago:
I did notice that the Murdoch media lost a lot of the influence they once had. The only ones that still care about the front page of the Australian are politicians and other media.
- Comment on We'll have plenty of camps to have them sent to by then. 6 days ago:
Yep, the lesser Bush and Trump I shows that Democrats are not interested in punishing crimes committed by Republicans.
- Comment on SignalGate Meets WordPress: Outgoing National Security Adviser's Phone Dumps Messages via Israeli App 1 week ago:
Just saw that, yeah. Completely predictable.
- Comment on SignalGate Meets WordPress: Outgoing National Security Adviser's Phone Dumps Messages via Israeli App 1 week ago:
Judging by the article, if the record keeping is really run on a WordPress instance, you can assume everyone is reading those messages, not just Mossad.
- Comment on Trump orders rebuilding and reopening of defunct US prison Alcatraz 1 week ago:
And it’s a museum now. The only thing this does is hurt a few tourist operators that run boats to it. It would probably be way more expensive to run than whatever prisons the federal government is running now, not to mention it taking like a decade to actually make it suitable as a prison again.
- Comment on ‘The Worst Internet-Research Ethics Violation I Have Ever Seen’ | The most persuasive “people” on a popular subreddit turned out to be a front for a secret AI experiment. 1 week ago:
AI posts or just creative writing assignments.
- Comment on Several phone brands rumored to be planning a major shift away from Android 1 week ago:
Yeah, Meego was really nice.
- Comment on A deadly E. coli outbreak hit 15 states, but the FDA chose not to publicize it 2 weeks ago:
So glad the US is pressuring other countries to lower their import standards to reduce the trade deficit. I’m sure the EU will be clamoring for American romaine lettuce now.
- Comment on Security without submarines: the military strategy Australia should pursue instead of AUKUS 2 weeks ago:
That was the original plan, until Morrison decided to join AUKUS and push out the timeline to getting new subs a few decades further.
- Comment on Security without submarines: the military strategy Australia should pursue instead of AUKUS 2 weeks ago:
Yeah, but can you trust the US going forward? And it’s not like closer relations with the UK or EU would be any help if push came to shove, the logistics alone would make that impossible. Australia needs to make sure it can defend itself with locally sourced technology and materials.
- Comment on A minority Labor government could be truly progressive – and the conservatives know it | Lenore Taylor 2 weeks ago:
There’s outright socialist parties ont the ballot as well, and you could argue some of the single issue parties (legalise cannabis party, animal justice party, …) are left wing too even if they don’t have an explicit economic programme. There’s options, and you can preference accordingly so your vote doesn’t trickle to the right wing parties.
- Comment on The US is Collapsing Like the USSR – So What Comes Next 2 weeks ago:
Trump is a huge fan of Cats, so maybe they’ll play that?
- Comment on The Cybertruck is all tricks and no truck, a musky Tesla fail 2 weeks ago:
Eh, the massive front bonnet that stops you from seeing pedestrians is definitely a design choice, not a necessity.
- Comment on Report: Meta's AI Chatbots Can Have Sexual Conversations with Underage Users 2 weeks ago:
Oh no, sexy chatbots online? That’s terrible. Horrible! Where can I find those so I can avoid them?
- Comment on Healthcare workers should have combat like ribbons like the military has. Like first responders got during 9/11. 2 weeks ago:
I guess they can’t really wear those on their scrubs every day for sanitary reasons. I do love the idea.
- Comment on Trump, in blue, sleeping at Pope Francis' funeral 2 weeks ago:
Yeah, amazing how that just gets glossed over. It’s a funeral, everyone’s wearing black and he shows up in blue? Goes without saying, but can you imagine Fox News if a Democrat did that?
- Comment on Looking for ... inventory management, I guess? 2 weeks ago:
Honestly, a spreadsheet would be fine for this? I’m not super familiar with what an inventory management system does tho, so maybe it does things beyond what a spreadsheet can do.
- Comment on Slate, a no-nonsense EV pickup for $20k 2 weeks ago:
China is already making better cars for way less, but I guess the good thing for them is that they won’t sell to the US.
- Comment on Slate, a no-nonsense EV pickup for $20k 2 weeks ago:
The Citroen AMI doesn’t have speakers either, it comes with a Bluetooth speaker instead, which you can use outside the car. It makes sense if you just think of the entertainment stuff as something that shouldn’t be part of the car and can easily be upgraded/replaced down the line.
- Comment on Social media sites should have 'reverse' Parental Controls; where adult children can block their boomer/senior parents' accounts from viewing conspiracy and radicalizing content. 2 weeks ago:
If you set up parental controls on your parent’s devices I can guarantee they won’t find a way around it.
- Comment on Council votes again to dump public EV fast charging station after TV news report 2 weeks ago:
Nah, it’s just the propaganda by the oil companies working. You’ll also see people suddenly bringing up brake dust and tire microplastics in relation to electric cars (even though ICE cars have the exact same issues).
Not saying those aren’t real problems that should be solved, but they’re usually just brought up to stop renewable projects from going ahead.
- Comment on Health of Brazil's ex-president Bolsonaro has worsened, doctors say 3 weeks ago:
He does get the most hilarious random illnesses tho.
- Comment on Uncovered emails showed how Meta struggled to keep Facebook culturally relevant 3 weeks ago:
I mean, whenever I look at it it’s just trash. Posts aren’t chronological, it’s showing shit from groups/people I don’t follow, and it’s actually buggy when scrolling and loading. Not to mention, all the people I actually care about stopped posting years ago, so it’s just like 3 people reposting stuff from the weird world of Facebook engagement farms.
- Comment on Wifi networks and home automation systems are expected to last 50+ years. 3 weeks ago:
If it’s not secure, it’s not fit for purpose. I’m sure I still have a working wifi router that only supports WEP encryption, and I guess I could technically still use it to build my network, but it’s just not something anyone should do.
- Comment on Wifi networks and home automation systems are expected to last 50+ years. 3 weeks ago:
Except there’s so much software in all of those things that you’ll just be opening yourself up to a ton of security flaws if they stop being patched.
