John Spartan, you are fined one credit for violating the upvote morality statute.

“Shithole website continues circling toilet.”
A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
Thats some goddamn thought police shit.
Also tells you how goddamn awful the powers that be are, that the only way they can stop criticism of their badness is to ban anyone that even gives the lowest effort agreement with the criticism.
magnus919@lemmy.brandyapple.com 4 weeks ago
Lemmy won’t.
kuberoot@discuss.tchncs.de 4 weeks ago
I imagine some instances might ban users for upvoting certain things, you know…
Mongolianhamster@lemm.ee 4 weeks ago
Feels like how reddit was when I first used it 12 years ago. Bye bye reddit.
Someone8765210932@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
So, stop upvoting those luigi memes. How sad

And now I’m here!

Reddit says the vast majority of users will not be affected Is that because the vast majority of users are bots? 🤔
Corno@lemm.ee 4 weeks ago
I’m glad that I don’t use Reddit. I remember there was a very talented artist who was wrongfully accused of using AI and banned on the art subreddit. That artist got banned even though he showed receipts to the mods proving he drew the art, and I guess with this policy, I’d be at risk of being banned from Reddit altogether because I for sure would’ve upvoted his art, it was amazing.
ThillyGooth@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
I remember Reddit. I used to like it there.
0ops@lemm.ee 4 weeks ago
It’s so awesome seeing all these new people here bailing from reddit. Welcome!
Rebecca_Corndogs@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
Thank you! I’m excited to be able to say the word Luigi as many times as I want!
berno@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
fuck reddit
you know it’s bad when ohanian and rose have gotten together to make a new digg
OverTheFiniteSun@lemmy.ca 4 weeks ago
I barely used Reddit - good riddance, this is what spurred me to sign up here. The right wing infestation of social media is nasty.
rustyfish@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
I remember one instance of right wingers roughly two years ago. But they got banished into the shadow realm and imploded shortly after. And then it happened again? Idk, shit got old after that first time.
Nah, instead we have kind of a problem with the other end of the spectrum. Yeah, I know but it’s not what it sounds like. They are usually referred to as “tankies” but “fascists painted red” is more fitting. Putin lovers, CCP slurpers, friends of North Korea. They are mostly far and few between and you will be fine when you ignore them.
Also: Welcome to Lemmy. Don’t hesitate to ask any questions. Our mods and admins actually care and answer.
frog_brawler@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
Reddit is a piece of shit.
futatorius@lemm.ee 4 weeks ago
Nobody elected the mods or the admins. And the management has shown itself to be, at least, MAGA-adjacent.
toxiczombie@lemm.ee 4 weeks ago
This is actually what got me to swap as it reminded me some content will be banned, and so the social media I’ve had for over a decade and thought was going to be the only classic site to retain freedom of speech and expression had proven itself that they will not be afraid to start taking baby steps towards controlling and censoring media. And in the contents section of this post was a person spreading the news of this alternative. So here I am.
BrutallyHonestPOS@lemm.ee 4 weeks ago
if that is your primary motivation, i have bad news for you… you might have to move on. here you will get bans for downvoting “the wrong” comment or post as well.
CazzoneArrapante@lemm.ee 4 weeks ago
Fuck Trump and Musk. US should get invaded Iraq 2003 style.
Ledericas@lemm.ee 4 weeks ago
it was a bad sign when musk got a subreddit banned because it hurt his feelings, and then other subs got banned for someone reason to, they said it was a mistake, cant be a mistake when it suddenly happened after musk complained, and it was subreddits related to things contrary to conservatives: narccissit help, lgbtq+ subs.
valkyrie00@lemmy.ca 4 weeks ago
So the user who posts it can be banned and then the entire comment tree and upvoters. Selectively removing people/entire groups they don’t want being visible and keep/promote the ones they do. AI trained on all of this to monitor the speech in real time. So basically no dissent ever being visible because it’s removed before anyone can see and the user banned before they can let anyone know, a mass silent cyber gag.
At least that’s how I see it being used. Here’s a picture of my dog though.
MolecularCactus1324@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
Is this after it is banned or before it is banned? Either way, seems ridiculous
roofuskit@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
They mean content that violates the terms of service.
Ledericas@lemm.ee 4 weeks ago
i heard peoples new accts get banned very quickly after giving “upvotes”.
phoenixz@lemmy.ca 4 weeks ago
Reddit really likes it’s exit waves
JesterAUDHD@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
Yeah, I just moved over. Its a shame but things are going to get crazy online.
Ledericas@lemm.ee 4 weeks ago
reddit started shilling for trump negatively or positively, thats when things got bad for most of the subs. you cant even say anything without your comment being misconstrued by someone.
OneBigSpud@lemm.ee 4 weeks ago
Finally made the permanent switch over to Lemmy. I left a link in the Reddit Safety post so anyone else could convert easily.
It’s an absurd overreach to say the least; good riddance to the corpo-bot platform.
Ledericas@lemm.ee 4 weeks ago
their recent banning indiscriminately is a huge overreach. both discord and reddit is trying to get bought off right now, they want thier IPO to be public. i dont see how reddit can encourage multiple accts if they see it as potential ban evasion accts.

I’m gonna buy a Luigi board to ask the guidance of Aaron Schwartz because I’m sure he is dying to get revenge
Shuddle@lemmy.zip 4 weeks ago
I’m workin on switching over. My third party work-around just croaked yesterday, so I’m here now. Where the party at?
helopigs@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
niche communities are still struggling due to the chicken-and-egg problem (and reddit dominance), but it’s improving
if there is a party, it’s about lemmy’s inevitable growth amidst reddit enshittification

bluedye@lemm.ee 4 weeks ago
I’ll have to stop looking at Reddit for real now.
surph_ninja@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
I was checking it periodically to see if I was missing out on anything, but the entire front page is meticulously curated propaganda & ads now. The manipulation is especially obvious because they rarely even update it now. You’ll see the same shit stuck on popular for days.
But I’m not complaining. It canceled out any FOMO I might’ve had.
I don’t expect this ban hammer will help in their next earnings call.
Ledericas@lemm.ee 4 weeks ago
80-90% is about trump in one way or another, its pure ragebaiting. not really different from what youtube and facebook is doing. youtube slightly more tolerable, but they brute-forced right wing shorts into your feed(yes and i dont log in). Something people dont forgot on reddit when they are complaining about youtube/or a channel many people dont log into an acct.
Kualdir@feddit.nl 4 weeks ago
I got shadowbanned after finally actively posting… On r/BuyFromEU… idk man
x00z@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
Shadowbanning in Europe is very hard to pull off without crossing DSA and GDPR rules, which require transparency and informing of the user. Specifically DSA Article 17.
Here’s a Dutch case regarding it: dsa-observatory.eu/…/the-dsas-first-shadow-bannin…
I’m posting this because if you are European, you should be informed of any shadowban, which makes it a normal ban by definition. If you had to investigate and found out you are shadowbanned, your rights have been violated. I think the best way to get something going is by using a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body, although there’s probably a lot of other ways. And if you don’t want to return to Reddit anymore, it might be fun to throw some legal shit at their shit platform on your way out.
Kualdir@feddit.nl 4 weeks ago
My reddit account suddenly got a lot of “server errors”, can’t post anymore and likes don’t count towards the streak. Since getting the “Network errors” I’ve also been getting 0 interaction.
I do actually live in the Netherlands now, what could I do to try and cause some chaos for this bs without paying for it? It happened to my last reddit account as well which a subreddit mod literally told me was shadow banned (like over 5 years ago now) and I should get that checked out.
sasquatch7704@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
Just a stupid question, if it’s “banned content”, why is it on Reddit?
pajam@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
I think it’s likely:
- someone posted something that later gets banned
- in between the posting and the banning, you upvoted it
- at time of banning/removal or after, they can check the logs of users who upvoted it while it was “live”
Also on reddit, removed posts and comments by subreddit mods can still be viewed if you have a direct link to it, or if you find it from a user’s profile instead of from the subreddit it was posted in. From there you may be able to vote on it still, although it’s pointless in most instances. However, Admin removed stuff likely cannot be found in the same way. Also a user deleting their own post or comment cannot be viewed in the same way either.
joyjoy@lemm.ee 4 weeks ago
Eventually, they’ll ban everyone for not downvoting rule breaking content.
Quirkycanuck@lemmy.ca 4 weeks ago
Reddit is turning into an American-dominated oligarchy. That’s why I moved to Lemmy. Hi everyone!
SmokeytheBeard1@lemm.ee 4 weeks ago
Same here! This is actually my first lemmy comment! 14 years on reddit and got permabanned for saying I purchased a gun “in case the nazis come for me”.
Fuck that noise I’m gone.
