- Comment on Mozilla warns Germany could soon declare ad blockers illegal 1 day ago:
My fear is that we’ll end up in a situation where 90% of the internet is just YouTube, Facebook, Reddit and other giants and people get all of their news, reviews and other information from those sites, which I think is worse than having ads.
This is pretty much already the case though. And they all have plenty of ads despite being incredibly profitable through their paid offerings.

If everyone on the internet was to use adblockers, most of the web would die out
Websites existed before internet ads came about, and while it may be true that most would die without ads I’d be happy to see them go because the vast majority of websites have no value and only exist to try and make a few bucks off ads.
Hosting for most websites these days is virtually free. For about 80% of mine I only have to pay for the domain names, and I have no desire to serve ads to my visitors under the guise of covering costs.
The alternatives are directly charging for access to a service, or providing it for free and relying on donations or payment just for extra/bonus features/content. These methods are very successful when something is actually worth paying for.

They are reporting on what he told them. Would you expect a news outlet to be able to somehow verify the testimony of a prisoner of war before reporting on it?
The title and article both make it clear that they are reporting his story.
Additionally, the rest of the article - including the ones before and after your quote - discusses numerous cases of other similar scenarios.

I’d imagine you’d need a browser that has developer tools, which is far less common on mobile. A simpler solution would be to use a separate app that just takes the page URL and downloads the video for you, such as this one: f-droid.org/en/packages/com.junkfood.seal/

It’s not something I’ve used very much as I don’t have much need for it, but I have used Locus a few times and I’m pretty comfortable with their privacy policy compared to the vast majority of other options.

There are options that don’t use Google et al.

- Comment on YSK that apart from not having a car, the single greatest thing you can do for the climate is simply eating less red meat 1 month ago:
The bulk of your post is probably the reason why consumption goals aren’t given - it’s not going to be the same for everyone.
Anyone who only eats 1 steak per year is unlikely to see a general statement like “reduce your red meat consumption” and think “oh no, I’m eating too much red meat”, because they are likely well aware of how much the average person eats compared to them.

It sounds much better when you say 1 in 167 people then vs 1 in 25 people today.

There are plenty of options for both software and OS, so not every combination is going to have the same level of support as Windows, where every user gets the same experience.
That said, I’ve heard lots of good things about NoMachine.

You aren’t free to do whatever you want just because it’s your property.
And if I could legally use power tools all through the night I still wouldn’t do it because it would be shitty for my neighbours.

Do you know what impact this would have on extensions though? Would extensions developed for current Firefox versions work securely in Pale Moon?
